- Join us as we explore a haunted forest in England known as Wistman's Wood. Wistman's Wood is what's left-over from an ancient forest that covered a lot of Dartmoor in 7000 BCE, before Mesolithic hunters/gatherers cleared it around 5000 BCE. Today, Wistman's Wood is a fairy tale playground filled with witch like branches and stones covered in otherworldly moss that is said to be haunted.

Lots of adder snakes. Too many tourists walking on it destroying the lichen etc so they are trying to stop people walking all over it and destroying it.

I love that you followed the rules of the sign and respected the wood. That was so good of you. I'm familiar with this wood - my mother was born in a village near here. She used to tell us that the trees come alive at night. She called them the wood spirits. You captured the essence of the wood perfectly. Thank you for a GREAT video. ❤
Again, amazing! My son went to England with his ex. He was just amazed at the number of paths that went through everywhere. He took tons of pictures of them going for walks in areas like this just so beautiful and so amazing. I'd love to be able to travel there someday. In Dartmoor there are legends such as the a hairy hands of Dartmoor. There’s also a road called the devils elbow where drivers feel like someone is pushing the wheel to make drivers come off the road.
It’s a very old place with a ton of history

My great great great grandparents was from England
My mum grew up in Torquay before the family came to Australia and she told us how much she and her brother and friends loved to explore the woods and moors near where they lived. I hope to visit myself one day in the not too distant future.

Reminds me of the dark forest depicted in Disney's 1939 classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. When Snow White escapes into the woods and it seems to come alive.

This gives me some memories 😊. Not exactly this forest but one very similar in the UK also . My grandad would hide sweets in a bag for me to find on our walk . And tell me stories of the goblins and fairies 😁.

I was born and raised in the famous town of Glastonbury, not too far from where you guys are.
You guys should go check it out, it is right up your street and lots and lots of history.
The best part of the UK, the South West, so green, fresh and calm when you hit this part of England.

Great video, thank you. All those stones used be to part of buildings of dry-wall of a long, long time ago Celtic construction. Always on top of a hill and usualy had the word DUN included in the name, that meant; fortress or fortified place. In some places, the houses were in the shape of circles and the 'roof' was a dome, like those that can still be seen in Malta. Some places like that can still be found in North of Spain, Portugal and France, all in ruin and being taken over by Oak trees. The Celts loved granitic stones and Oaks, and the places that had huge rounded boulders on a hill and by it, those where sacred places that then Catholic Christianity adopted and constructed small chapels for a annual religious festival, mostly dedicated to Mary( the ancient Goddess), and where always surrounded by Oak trees, the queen tree

I recommend Boscastle and the museum of witchcraft and then a trip to Tintagel to see King Arthur’s castle.x

The oldest oaks appear to be 400-500 years old, and originated within a degenerating oakwood that survived in scrub form during two centuries of cold climate. In c. 1620, these old trees were described as "no taller than a man may touch to top with his head".The wood is home to the incredibly rare Horsehair lichen (Bryoria smithii) which is found at only two sites in Britain.
