Hey guys, thanks so much for watching the video! Sorry for the lack of uploads recently, a lot has been going on haha... But from now on videos will be uploaded more often then ever before, I even have someone who'll help me with editing. Also, I tried out a bit of an overworked editing style this time, so maybe if you have some time to give feedback: - Do you like it more when I show what lines I'm talking about with arrows or with highlights? - And do you prefer having background music or do you find it distrating? Appreciate all of you! Let's move on to a great 2023! Dave
Stay Safe! BTW After finishing my exams I will use your videos to make myself remember code again as I could not code due to my exam for a very long time. Thanks for your awesome videos. I just hope you get too many subscribers and views
Hey, sorry to bother you, again, uhm, in the wallrunning function, when I am trying to run on the right side of the, it doesn't work, but when on the left side, it works, PLS HELP
Hey, i was wondering if you could make a tutorial on side stepping? Like in games like resident evil or outlast where the player squeezes through a tight gap. Love the tutorials btw
Hi Dave the tutorial was awesome although i wish you would slow down a little because some parts of the tutorial you only showed for a short time not enough for our brains to understand. but nonetheless awesome tutorial may i ask if you know how to make a sword wielding game along with enemies?
Hello! I've been following your character control tutorials and mechanics, but I'd like to know if you could give it a tutorial so that when doing something like sliding or jumping you don't lose the speed you brought and add to the speed of the new action. basically momentum. I would appreciate it very much, in advance thanks for your tutorials ✌❤
How to come up with this kind of logic yourself? I always wanted to make game but my tiny brain cannot do anything without totorial. You have big brain and nice tutorial as always
Well don't worry too much, I've been in the exact same position you are now :D I always watched lots of tutorials but couldn't do much myself. But if you try to understand the tutorial code and also modify it a bit to your likings, you'll eventually get how everything works and start coming up with your own systems.
Create a new Material, enable "emission" in the settings, turn the emission color up and make sure that you have a post processing stack with glow activated :D
Hi Dave, Currently I am using your tutorials to create a basic movement system for a game, but I am having trouble with the player when falling from large heights. For some reason, whenever I jump off of something 20 meters tall or higher, the player seems to stop midair before reaching the ground, sometimes multiple times, depending on how high I am from the ground. I have gone through all the code and I can't find anything that is obviously the cause, I have modified the maxYSpeed but it still doesn't work, it is ruining the gameplay and I really need to fix it. Would you have any idea what is happening or if you have fixed it and I didn't see it in a video? I can attach a video clip of what is happening if needed. Also, thank you for all of these wonderful tutorials, they are awesome and I think it's amazing to be teaching so many people this stuff.
Hey @hurrikane3130 I had the same problem and after some testing I found the problem existed in the SpeedControl() function. There is a check in the function for if(OnSlope() && !exitingSlope) and if you were to Debug.Log something directly under that if statement, you would find it logs exactly when the issue happens when the player suddenly stops midair after falling for a prolonged period of time. If you look further into this you'll find that a bug in the OnSlope() function is the one to blame. In short, my solution to this was: In the OnSlope() function, set an if statement around the whole code (including the "if (Physics.Raycast..." check) for "(grounded == true)" I know it's been a while since you posted this comment but hopefully it helps you and those who also ran into this problem 👍
Nice video, definetly will add it to my game! Keep it up! I've have a problem tho ( isn't anything about this ) , when I get close to wall and start wall running my camera goes into the wall, can you help me please?
Hi, I'm sorry to bother you, but I was curious when you will post the code to your dual hooks script. I have been working on a game and wanted to try the feature out, and when I wrote the code I experienced many issues. I will try to fix it myself, but here are my two issues. My first issue is that Unity is throwing an error "Trying to Invoke method: DualHooks.StopGrapple couldn't be called." After grappling this causes a strange bug where the line renderer's first joint is moved to the center of the world and the other joint is stuck at the grappling point. My second problem is that the line renderer for the swinging script is not working, but the line renderer for grappling partially works. I have implemented the Affax rope animations, and when grappling the line is working properly but has no animation. Note that none of these bugs existed prior to making modification to the script. Sorry if this is a handful.
Your videos are of high quality. Unfortunately, your code is not. There are many resources on the internet about clean code. Please take this as a friendly criticism
The code is written in an understandable way even for beginners, or at least it should be haha :D In my own projects I follow more strict rules of clean-coding. But do you have any concrete suggestions regarding this code here?
Your scripts are realy big with a lot of if Statements. I World use a Design pattern like a state Maschine. Try to split up the code in more readable Methods.
Haha nicely spotted! I use the same base approach with adding joint components to the player as Dani, that's why I had his script open (Honestly I don't think there's a different way to do it anyways haha)

Hey Dave, one question. Why does my character cannot move on the ground after I do the grappling function??
Any ideas on how to fix that?
Are you enabling the movement again after grappling? Check if the player is correctly switching to the walking state
OMG it worked thank yoouuu
Could you maybe create a tutorial for Unity 3D in which the Player Moves and uses the new Input System whilst animation are also applied?
