Ledaig 18 is a worthy winner! Fantastic whisky even for those (like me) not super into peat. My personal pick was the Roseisle 12, followed by the A/D and Craigellachie 13. Would love to try the Oban, Longmorn, and Port Charlotte. Thanks for putting this list together @gwhisky - fun stuff!
I seriously always have a Craigellachie 13 open on the shelf. It's the only bottle I'm not getting tired of. And can get it for appr. €35 on auktion. Love it.
Great list Geoff. I whole heartedly agree with you on a few that I have tried. Craigellachie 13, Benromach are great additions on that list. I managed to get Ledaig 18 and yet to try. Look forward to your run to WOTY. Cheers G!
I have that Longmorn too. The bottle might be 2/3 full & to date I hadn't been that impressed. It has been maybe 2-3 years since I tried it & only a couple of weeks ago I went back to it and it absolutely blew me away, so fruity & crip & yet subtle. Really lovely stuff.
Manage to snag another bottle Craigellachie 13 yesterday during an online 12:12 sale! First time getting it under SGD$100 and happy smiling ear to ear 🤣😂
It's a cool list. In a fit of panic I just bought the last Roseisle 12 2023ed. in town, and sat nipping as I watched this. It's so well-sculpted and monumental. Then I did some checking, and Longmorn 16 is actually still around here in my land, at a reduced $80! Backup bottles!
My parents gave me a bottle of Craigellachie 13 way back in the days. It was in fact my first bottle of whisky. And oh how I fell for it. Part nostalgia, part taste it's still my favorite whisky some 20 years later. I always make sure to have a bottle or two in my cabinet.
Classy list Geoff. My peated whisky of the year is Signatory 100 proof Caol Ila 2015 9 year. Fantastic and affordable, my Sherried whisky is signatory 100 Benrinnes 2015 13 years. My suggestion. Don’t delay buy today.
Your patrons are men and women of distinguished taste! What a list Geoff, if I was allowed to only have these whiskies for a year, I'd be a happy camper!
Love your videos and this is another great one. I had a dram of Gordon & McPhails Longmorn 2008 and it has to be my favourite drink this year. I will seek out more indie Longmorn next year. Shame I couldn't get to taste that Longmorn at #3. Merry Xmas G
$100 price difference between Ledaig 18 and Port Charlotte 18. That's just crazy! Neither of them is available here though. I recently purchased the 2014 Benromach CS Batch 3 at 60.6%. It's really good and definitely in my top 10 for 2024. The 2024 Paul Launois has arrived here and there may still be a few bottles available, but it sells out fast. I still have a lot of my 2023 bottle left so didn't purchase the 2024. I also have the Longmorn 16 that I purchased a while ago and it is a really good whisky too. I'm nursing the bottle as I know once it's finished, I can't get another. I've only seen the Longmorn Distillers Edition available here lately. Cheers!
@@Gwhisky my pleasure! Here in Brazil the market of whiskies which are officially imported used to be very poor but it is consistently increasing (although these contained in the list are only available with informal reselles who buy them in Uruguay or Paraguay). Just to satisfy a curiosity from my side, what do you do in Taiwan and who are these patrons from who such list was obtained? Cheers 🥃
Thanks for sharing Geoff Interesting list indeed. But don't worry, none of them should make my list (if there would be a list at all). Too much grape pollution (and/or too expensive for me). For the record, nr.4 comes closest, but is easily surpassed by a distillery exclusive (single cask, bourbon matured). And nr.2 is a fine pick as well (as the grapes are not too prominent). And in the closing section you fully clarified why I never can be a patreon as I completely lack the "distinctive taste" or grandeur....Thanks for pointing out. I'm happy with that 😂. Slàinte mhath
Craigellachie 13 is very good, I love it too. Wondering how much upgrade the 17 is but seems your patrons don't agree the price upgrade vs the quality lol
I love the 17 and I'll pay the money for the upgrade, but it can't match the value of the 13, and yes, the law of diminishing returns applied. Still, it's absolutely beautiful whisky. 🥃
Hey man! Great list which i certainly contributed to 😋, 10/10 would buy all of them, which also is a sad truth because i have... I managed to get myself a 10 year old ardnamurchan which has been matured in ex-Bourbon & Paul Launois Barrique. Haven't tried it yet but i'm excited!
Not to let myself on the shoulders but we did good. This is an awesome list! Was really curious what would come out of it hehe I actually have a 1 bottle of the old green Longmorn 16. Pickped it up for around 90 eu on the secondary market. I think the person selling it didn't know what they had. I really need to get another bottle of the Craigallechie 13! ...the bus...you just had to 😂😂😂 Cheers my friend!🥃🥃🎩
That Longmorn 16 only recently sold out / disappeared here in Sweden, and a damn shame, as it was selling for only €80. Wish I had grabbed another backup before it left... d'oh!
Something else that's sets Craigellachie 13 apart is the mouthfeel, silky almost luxurious. Compare it with a Springbank 10 or kilkerran12, I dare you.
My whisky of the year would have been Benromach 15 yo, but then I bought a bottle of That Boutique-y Whisky Company's 18 yo Peated Highland. We're not supposed to know what distillery it comes from, but 45.8% ABV tells us pretty clearly that it's Talisker. It's NCF and natural color, and I payed only 80€ for it.
The Islands region is an "unofficial" one and a sub-section of Highland, and in that (latter) regard similar to Speyside. 45.8% abv is just the old imperial 80 proof and is used not only by Talisker but also some others--Boutique-y use it for others in their range, some Port Askaig use it, etc. Any bottler can decide to reduce a whisky down to that level if they wish, it's not something intrinsic to Talisker. Whisky barrels are usually sold and transferred/exchanged at barrel proof rather than after any such reduction/dilution.
@@jbar6284 Thank you for very educational piece of information. From now on I stop assuming/announcing that it is Talisker:) It's really beautiful stuff though. And now that TBWC sells their "core range" in 700ml bottles it's a real bargain too.
Graigeallachie 13 here is $52. Unbelievable considering every other single malt is inflated. Simple Glenlivet is 60 to 65 and Macallan is 80 just to compare. Bunna 12 CS and Victoriana are $90 and beat everything on your list. lol
Really a mood thing. Rich and funky vs. subtle and refined. I think I'd personally take the Talisker on most days because I'm more into the coastal gentle peat, personally. Cheers Salty! 🥃
Geoff, have you tried Talisker Limited 2024 (the 8 year old)? If you have, what are your thoughts on it (I'm guessing you'd be making an episode on it if you've tried it, but maybe a few thoughts would be OK to share)?
This lineup makes Gwhisky look good!

Roseisle is amaaaazing. Have you to thank for that little discovery! 🙏
TKU very much . Gwh ... and Ralfy ... are my 2 number 1
I'm in good company then. Cheers! 🥃
Hi Geoff, phenomenal list.
With a great number 1.

Hi Geoff, that’s a great list. I absolutely love Benromach’s yearly CS bottling’s. Buy them every year. Slàinte Geoff 🥃
My favorite whisky this year was the Deanston Chronicles II.
Thanks for posting....a bunch of bottles for me to look for now!

Great price! 🥃

Hey Geoff
Roseisle 12 is so hard to get in Sydney Australia well for a fair price too!!!M
Oban 14 is amazing too!!!! Have a second bottle !!!!
🥃👍🏻
Great lineup, you do have some special patreons Geoff! Loved the end bit where you choked on a Thesaurus while describing them...
great list !

One of my favorites this year and this close to christmas is Mikle toir Turbo. A peat and sherry bomb. Great list though,😅
Funny you should mention that one. It was number 11 on the list! Almost made the cut!🥃
I enjoyed the Loch Gorm 2024 and got it for about $75 -- nice deal.
I'd add Kilkerran 16 - as a whisky of the year.
Thanks for sharing Geoff

Nice list 😁 wasn't expecting lagg to pop up. I still haven't opened my lagg bottle
Can you do a video on best ways to store your whisky?
Craigellachie 13 is very good, I love it too.
Wondering how much upgrade the 17 is but seems your patrons don't agree the price upgrade vs the quality lol
The 13 has a good price. I can't motivate paying more for just a slight improvement in quality.

My favourite this year is Macleans Nose but I guess the whisky snobs wouldn't chose a blend!
If I found one I liked enough why not?
Now I’m sad I missed out the Roseisle and the Oban. They just seemed too expensive for me.
Yeah I dismissed the Roseisle initially myself!

If that's the case, then the company needs to be sued since Talisker is not in the Highlands but on the Isle of Skye 😂

Ledaig 18 followed by Craigslist 13 then Roseisle 12
i'm buying craigellachie next just out of respect, old school production, specs, age, and affordable, all the others said it couldnt be done
I know very little of these brands. I have much to learn.
I'm pretty sure I'm seeing a box/bottle of the Talisker 30 yr old near the top left corner of the shelf. I know b/c I got to try it this year. 😁

Engorged whaa? Lol, hilarious!

(Old or new).

Gee I must be getting old. I still remember the good old days when you did single bottle reviews.
I do a whole series of end-of-year wrap-up videos every December. Bottle reviews will come back after this.
They redeemed themselves at the end with the Ledaig 18. No Springbank...odd.

Hey man, what did you pay for that bottle? In Alberta it’s selling for $118, while last year’s special release of Talisker is still around $160
@@BondSask it's selling in my area for 99 USD, but I haven't bought it yet. Would you say it was worth the 118 CAD (or USD)?
@ this year’s Talisker SR was worth it, yeah
@@BondSask I bought the bottle, tried it, and I'm so glad I decided to get it. Thank you for the tip!
@ absolutely
If you gave me a full tank of gas and 72 hours to buy these whiskies, when all said and done I might be able to buy two or three of them, maybe.
Hello GMan! Cointreau?! Really?!🤪😂 🍹
😂😂😂
Should be titled Scottish whiskey

Not identical, but similar. I mean... it makes sense. People are way more likely to support creators that match their sensibilities. 🥃
