Great content G. I'd love to see more blind tastings. I'd also like a bit of background about you, like how did you end up where you live? Maybe take us out the house and show us your favorite whisky stores in the area? Whisky hunting for gems?
I think videos that are along the lines of "If you like this, try that" would be good, especially for harder-to-come-by bottles, of for people who want to branch out more. For example, Arran 10 is a classic go to value bottle, so if people really enjoy that, what are the next few bottles they could explore/branch out to that are somewhat similar to Arran 10 but also offer a bit of something new. I don't know, nice video.
This. One of my favorite bourbon channels does this for every new release that he reviews. It is incredibly helpful, especially when so much bourbon is highly allocated. There's been scotch reviewed here that doesn't exist in my state. Having some alternatives would really help. Cheers.
I've given up trying to get a bottle, any bottle, from this lineup. Or anything Springbank/Kilkerran for that matter. Oh well, at least Canada has free refrigeration during the winter months. If I had to offer suggestions for future content it would lean towards the more technical aspects of whisky production. Things like terminology (pot still vs column etc.) or importance of barrel selection or even how temp/humidity/proximity to the ocean might influence the character of the finished product. Plenty of people out there to give opinions on what they like, not a lot are telling you *why* it tastes the way it does. Whisky is a journey that ends in a glass, but how it got there might be worth an episode or two. And finally, I recall a few threads on Reddit you got mentioned in, you were generally praised. Whatever content you decide to include, I'm sure it'll be entertaining, humourous and informative. Cheers!
Hi Geoff, You are really the humble master of the taste buds. Well done, mate. The KK8, either bourbon or sherry is always great. I must admit I like the KK12 way more than the KK16. Nice idea to go for more in depth blind tastings in 2025. Happy new Year!!
Well done. I’m impressed with both your talent and modesty. :) I really do like the Kilkerran 12 - one of my favourite whiskies. So I feel vindicated as a man of taste.
Great stuff! You could try doing a blind round with different Kilkerran HP batches. I loved batch #6, but #7 seemed flat by comparison. The 25% sherry on #6 made a big difference...sadly the rest have all been 10% sherry since then. I've yet to crack open the later batches yet.
Awesome video Geoff. Glad to see another blind. Pretty entertaining - although not as entertaining as seeing your credibility continue to wither...... congrats on nailing the blind 🤣. Regarding additional content - more blinds with different brands in the same blind might be fun..... maybe throwing some real mayhem into the mix... like some 18's and 15's in the same blind - think the possibility of some surprises both for your credibility, and what you might prefer in a blind might be eye opening. Having your lady ( or a mate) choose the whiskys would take it even further, as you wouldnt even know whats in the pool.
Cant wait for an Ego-Boosted Geoff, love the videos, one of the channels I always watch, good combo of entertainment and whisky knowledge! keep doing your thing friend. I also get humbled by blind tastings all the time.
I have this exact lineup at home, tho i've not tried the Heavily Peated or the 16 yet...I think i'll agree the 12 is best, very expressive and bigger than the SB10 in my opinion.
Blind tastings are always interesting. Our tasting group does them fairly often and results are consistently surprising. Great way to challenge yourself. Nice job on the 5/5. cheers
Honestly, I watched 3-5 videos before on your channel, and only starting from this video I enjoyed watching 🎉. Great video, you should definitely continue doing them. Also l, great addition of your tasting favourites at the end.
Oban special releases blind in the future? I've enjoyed them but I often wonder how different they really end up from each other since they are very distillate forward. Geoff you've said that Oban is one of your favorite distilleries. I'd love to see you take on these in this blind format
Hey Geoff, some thoughts on future blinds. 1. Do more of them! 2. Don't try to guess them while you are doing them, as it creates bias based on previous experiences and process of elimination sabotages being blind. 3. Always do blinds with the intention of finding which you like the most as the primary goal (intentionally trying not to guess which it is). 4. Do blinds of previous lists of yours. 5. You can cleanse your palate with water between each glass so your palate doesn't mix flavors.
Great blinds Geoff and good acoustic audio to boot. Oh and girlfriend didn't take off with all of those custom made 24k gold glencairns? KK12 is my goto but unfortunately none have showed up in my market for about 6 months now. I will be grabbing one when it does show up. Maybe a couple of different Arrans or perhaps Craigellachie side-by-side. Cheers to the 2025.
Likin' the format! I think more side-by-sides (not necessarily blind) would be good e.g. Special Editions releases by same distillery or the various Arrans or same ages (e.g. 18 YOs) or type e.g. peated sherried whiskies etc. Will you do an individual review of the KK 16? Just curious ;)
I like your channel as it is. I learn a lot, being relatively new to scotch whisky. Congrats on a clean sweep here. I hope it's on the up and up :) I am generally sticking with the Islays so far, but at your suggestion, tried Glenlivet (12, I believe) at the bar. I did quite like it, but then ran back to an Ardbeg. (Current fave: Kilchoman Machir Bay)
Really enjoy all of your content (even when the bottles are unavailable to me). I'm sure shaking things up a bit in any direction you'd care to go would turn out nicely.
My order is fairly similar... Springbank 10 in first, followed by several days of contemplation. Then KK12, KKHP, KK16, then 97% of all whisky ever distilled in the entirety of human history, followed up by KK8 Sherry.
Fun blind tasting, but it's a bit easy to guess. I think for the next blind tasting you need to kiss 4 girls and find out which one is your gf. Maybe it would be interesting blind tasting if you didn't know what was on the table but you could blindly touch bottle design and drink it. Thanks for the video, The night video looked really cool
i got the kilchoman loch gorm on new years, and has me totally rethinking peated whisky. this is the 2nd one now after highland park dark origins, where the heavy sherry could balance out the smoke for me
Where do you think the Kilkerran 8 yo Bourbon Cask Matured would fall? I was able to find a bottle of the bourbon, but couldn't lay my hands on a sherry.
Good episode. Starting out with the Heavily Peated could have saturated your olfactory receptors and made it more difficult to discern the differences between the others, but you overcame any affect that might have had and nailed all the identities. Well done! It's disappointing to hear that the newer SB10 lacks some of the character of the older bottlings. It is (or was) my favorite in their standard line-up. I have not been able to find any in over 3 years, so it's kind of a moot point anyway.
The Heavily Peated might well have muted my senses, good point! As for SB10, I like it a bit less than the older version, but it's still excellent. Not a single dud in this lineup! 🥃

An idea for a blind challenge, select a whisky from each region, of a similar type, e.g. ex sherry 10-12 years old, similar ABV, and see if you can identify the region. Cheers!
I wonder how much the tasting has been affected by your first sip being the heavily peated. Anyway, more blind tastings and more hubleness would be nice!
Finally someone mentioned that Springbank 10 has a weak nose. I was really thinking that I had terrible senses, when I heard people saying that it has a powerful and rich nose, while for me it was pretty weak. Let's say, even Glenfiddich 12 has a richer and brighter nose than Springbank 10. The thing is, I have to admit it has a great taste and a magnificent aftertaste. But the nose is weak, sorry. P. S.
