@@timbates4wdadventures You should have showed the viewers the Moroka hut which is past MacFarlane's saddle, down by a river flat. Wellington high Plains can be seen from Mt. Wellington which is a popular hiking and 4 x4 spot. The hike / drive up to the Sentinels has led to some vehicles coming to grief judging by the amount of broken under carriage debris that is strewn along the track.
@@MisterTMH Gday mate. I’ve walked into Moroka Hut many times. It’s a short walk but we’ll worth it. As for the drive up Mt Wellington. You can’t drive it right now. It’s seasonally closed until November. I have a video on my channel where I drove up Mt Wellington and down to Miller’s Hut. The drive out to the Sentinels was closed then and I think it’s a permanent closure. Miller’s hut is as far as you can go. Thanks mate for your feedback. Cheers Tim.

I came across your videos and subscribed to your channel. I love the simplicity of how you do things unlike other 4x4 and camping videos they highlight all their expensive gears as if saying if you do not have an expensive set up and those expensove gears, camping and the road trips wont be worth it. But the way you do things is simply awesome, you give people like us the reason that camping and road trips aint about the expensive gears and equipment but it's more about simplicity and enjoying the outdoors with what you have. I am a fan of your videos mate, Keep them coming.
Gday Angus, Thanks heaps mate. You sure do not need all the latest camping gear and a highly modified 4wd with all the bells and whistles to explore this great country. Just get out and see it with what you have. Thanks again mate. Cheers Tim
G'day Cameron, Yeah mate, it is a ripper camp spot and then the mountain views from the fire tower, they are amazing on a clear day. Thanks mate for your reply. Cheers Tim
Gday Luke, Great cook up mate. Home made pies and chips in the camp oven on the campfire. Doesn’t get much better. Thanks mate for your reply. Cheers Tim.
Hi mate, I presume that this camp spot is above the pinnacles and that is the Pinnacle Look out, and yes i have been their but always drive past, also back in the 70's we put a blanket over the motor but lifted the bonnet t5hen closed it held the blanket in place if a wind came , but enjoy your vids. cheers
G'day Ian, Yes it is mate. Not far from the look out and fire tower. Great spot. Good idea with lifting the bonnet to tuck in the sheet over the bonnet. Thanks mate for your feedback. Cheers Tim.
thanks tim for the awesome trip video. Definitely sad to see all the snow the resorts had, hopefully out of lockdown with around 40cm forecast for weekend.
G'day Hamish, Thanks mate, it was a great spot to setup. Yeah mate, a heap of snow coming over the next few days. Hopefully lock down ends so people can hit the slopes. Thanks mate for your reply. Cheers Tim.
what a great spot Tim. love the pies and chips you gave me some ideas. i just got back from my solo trip in the mountains. i have a 4x4 sprinter van with a built in diesel heater/block heater it heats a cold motor fast and me too. its the best time of the year hey.
Hehe nice cook up,l still in cane toad country and fire wood is scares as the pigs stop coming up to my camp site, that's the 4 legged ones. I will be putting that site on our list to camp if you let us back into Vic,l feel like l got the plaque.
G'day Greg, Stay safe mate up North. Not great down here. Plenty of firewood in the High Country I hope you can check it out some day soon. Cheers Tim.
What a cracking spot mate. Magic. I make the same pies Tim, oval pan but same idea. Try cutting your pastry at 12,3,6,9 its helps when you drop it in the pie tin, the slits are folded over each other and leave a nice clean base and less trim. Nothing better than a home made pie in the dead of winter at camp. Stay safe. Until the next freedom from this Covid mess. Can't wait.
G'day mate, Yeah first time using the round pie trays as you could see. Lol I'll get better as i make more of them Thanks mate for the tip. I appreciate your feedback. Cheers Tim
Love the vids mate, looking forward to the next ones!! Quick question, we recently camped at 900m and had lots of condensation on the underside of the awning, how do you deal with that and prevent it from dripping on the swag and gear underneath? I've posted on my channel an example of the rain :-) when the sun hit it. Cheers
Gday mate, I’ve never experienced that problem with condensation on the under side of my awning. Could be the material it’s made from. I sent my awning up on a slight angle to one corner. Never flat. That could be a consideration. Thanks a lot for your feedback mate. Cheers Tim
Gday mate, If you can, try and get over. We might cross paths during mid flight. Lol I’d love to explore NZ One day. Thanks mate for your reply. Cheers Tim
Very nice camping spot Tim and another great video to watch from you. Thank you for the 26 minutes of your camping experience which was a pleasure to watch while being in lockdown Victoria with camping envy. If your pies were perfect great stuff. If they were a little dry try adding 2 TBSP of gravy on top of the meat before you seal them up. You can also make extra gravy sometimes for the chips. Not every time though. Happy camping Tim.👍
Gday Jason, Thanks mate. It’s a really nice place to camp up for a few days. Let’s hope lockdowns end very soon so we can all get back out camping again. Thanks heaps mate for tip on adding gravy. I greatly appreciate your feedback. Take care mate. Cheers Tim.
Hi Tim. Tony from Briagolong. I was thinking as l watched you set up camp, geez l hope the wind doesn't blow while you're there it'll blow you back home, then again the price you pay to camp with a view. I did a summer up at the fire tower back in 94 when the old timber building was there. One of the best views in the VHC l reckon. The only job I've done where l got paid to gaze out the window and not get in trouble by the boss !!! Maybe Tim this time of year try and stay in a few of the huts, l can think of a few in lower elevation areas. Cheers Tony
G'day Tony, Yeah mate, sometimes camping up high can have a price. But it was so worth camping on that spot. The huts are great to camp in during winter if you can get one. Not many in that area during the seasonal track closures. Thanks mate for your feedback. Cheers Tim.
Mate if I was to go back to working for someone I’d definitely be going for the job of watching those ranges. I never knew about the fire watch towers and alpine fuel being a thing until I watched your video ! Keep it up mate. Love it 👍🏼
Gday Mitch. It’s a top spot with amazing views, that’s for sure. I’m glad you found this video helpful on diesel fuel. Thanks mate for your feedback. Cheers Tim
G'day mate, Yeah my pie mix has been in development for a while now. So good making a couple in the mighty camp oven in the High Country. They are so good. Thanks mate for your reply. Cheers Tim.
Hi Tim, you inspired me to get back to basics. Picked up a few items for cooking over the fire and have ditched the gas. Had the best flame grilled T-bone last weekend just up near woodfood at Running Creek and heading to Gordon Country for retreat camping in August. Can't wait. Thanks! D
G'day Daniel, Thats great mate if my videos are helping to get out in the bush and cooking on the campfire. Great way to cook meals mate. Running Creek is a really nice spot. I hope you get your trip away in August mate. Thanks for your reply. Cheers Tim
Great video ol mate, just in regards to the canvas over the motor in cold temperatures, it actually works better if you open the bonnet and drape the blanket or canvas over the actual motor…
G'day, Camping during winter isn't for everyone, but gee it's so refreshing with the mountain air at those elevations. Just need to be prepared for the cold and it's unreal. Thanks a lot for your feedback. Cheers Tim.

Crikey, thought I was watching a cooking show there for a while!😅 Great video, I could feel the cold coming out of my phone! Where did you get your vest from mate?
I know exactly where your camped , good spot , I always seem to tend to camp down a bit lower to get out of the wind but you don't get that view , love the pies and chips in the camp oven will have to give that a crack , something to stick to your ribs on a cold night love it.
G'day Andrew, Yeah mate, it is a ripper spot to camp. Great views thats for sure. Those pies and chips in the camp oven were great mate. Lol Thanks for your reply. Cheers Tim.
Hi Tim, UK Paul here again mate, been a while but thoroughly enjoyed this vid, what a fantastic campsite. Those views are out of this world. It must get damn cold there if you need Alpine fuel in the fourby! The pies looked very tasty, are you going to reveal the recipe or are you going to market them? Either way good on you and thanks for sharing another great experience. All the best mate. Regards Paul.
G'day Paul, Thanks mate for dropping in from the UK. I hope all is well for you in this current climate. It was a great spot to camp mate, stunning mountain views, and yes it's our winter and i always mix my own fuel at this time of year. The pies were unreal mate, specially making them in the camp oven on the campfire. Wont let the pie mix out just yet. Lol Maybe one day. Take care mate. Cheers Tim.
G'day Mark, Haha Lol Shanks in the camp oven are wicked. But the pies and chips were fantastic on the cold night. Thanks mate for your reply. Cheers Tim.
Another cracking video Tim. Always enjoy them. Always try to count how many cameras you use on your videos. I'm guessing 2, one GoPro and one of those multi angle cameras. 😉 Good tip on converting bonnet to keep engine warm at night... Modern cars nowadays also have insulation under the bonnet for that matter... Maybe a simple mod you might like to do on the ol' Patrol to install one under the bonnet. 🙂
Thanks mate. Really nice spot to park up for a few days. Just don’t go if the wind blows. Lol. Under my bonnet it does have that blanket stuff. That’s for sound reduction I think. Sheet over the bonnet at night works well. Thanks mate for your feedback. Cheers Tim.
Interesting to see how you cope with the Australian winter! For a bloke from the other side of the planet, this was new and made me reflect on the matter.
Of curiosity, I searched for information on the diesel classes for Australia, and Victoria in particular, and the cloud point/ambient temperature requirements they have to meet are (ref. Australian AS 3570 standard): for Victoria, Jan +9 °C, Feb +6 °C, Mar +3 °C, Apr +1 °C, May-Jul 0 °C, Aug +1 °C, Sep +2 °C, Oct +4 °C, Nov +6 °C, Dec +8 °C. That doesn't give you much leeway, in the Victoria high country winter! No wonder you prefer to mix your own fuel. Good thinking, so you always come well prepared!
In comparison, here in Norway the diesel fuels must comply with the EN 590 CFPP standard and depends on which climate region of the country: for the alpine regions south of the Arctic Circle the Winter diesel class must meet GO-24 (down to -24 °C), while for the Arctic region of 66th to 71st parallel North, Arctic diesel class GO-32 (down to -32 °C) is delivered at the service stations. Below -32 °C, and the diesel starts to coagulate, if we don't mix the fuel some extra like you do to avoid having engine start problems to deal with. 4x4s in the Nordic countries come with larger alternators and larger batteries with more cold-cranking Amps, as standard. At very low temperatures, we put a cover in front of the radiator (e.g. makeshift cardboard sheet) to avoid cooling the engine too much and to bring up the temperature of the cabin heater. Using the correct engine oil (viscosity for cold climate), apply extra lubrication in locks and hinges, cleaning and applying silicone lubricant on all rubber door seals, refill with winter class washer fluid, these are also important to remember before the winter arrives up here. Waxing and polishing the paint in autumn is also a good idea, because washing the car is practically impossible during some very cold weeks of winter. (...And yes, some of us enjoy winter camping).
Gday mate, Wow super detailed reply. I always mix my own during winter, be to be safe than sorry and the car not starting when it’s time to go home. Thanks heaps for dropping in from Norway mate. I greatly appreciate it. Cheers Tim.

Hope you can check it out some day.
Cheers Tim
Cheers Tim.
@@timbates4wdadventures We walked up to the Sentinels from Miller's hut a few years back .It was a solid return walk .We hiked in from McFarlane saddle via Mt. Wellington in Autumn 2021. The bushwalking tracks were all clear for walking.
@@MisterTMH Yeah mate, that is a really nice walk from Millers Hut. Ive not been out to the Sentinels since my scouting days, and that was a long time ago. Lol
Loved this one Tim. The straight audio of the sounds of the bush while you were setting up camp were frigging awesome!!
G'day Michael,
Wicked mate.
Thanks for that, im glad you enjoyed the video. Top spot to camp.
Cheers Tim.
Great work Tim. Last time I walked to that fire lookout tower there was about 8 inches of snow on the ground, was so good to see it like that
Yeah, that would be wicked seeing it covered in snow.
After the recent snow falls, I reckon it would be covered now.
Thanks for your reply.
Cheers Tim.
You never cease to amaze me with your videos Tim great job.
Made me hungry with Batesy pies cheers from Loz
G'day Loz,
Thats great feedback. Thanks very much.
The pies in the camp oven went down a treat. Lol
Gday Angus,
Thanks heaps mate.
You sure do not need all the latest camping gear and a highly modified 4wd with all the bells and whistles to explore this great country.
Just get out and see it with what you have.
Thanks again mate.
Cheers Tim
One of the most amazing views I've ever seen. Great spot there Tim 👍
G'day Cameron,
Yeah mate, it is a ripper camp spot and then the mountain views from the fire tower, they are amazing on a clear day.
Thanks mate for your reply.

Lov your camping trips buddy, make me want to get out there, keep it up 👍 cheers
Thanks Louis, i hope we can get back out soon.

Great SOLO camping trip with professional videography skills, really enjoyed it ... thanks
Thanks mate, it was a great trip.
I greatly appreciate your feedback on the footage.
Cheers Tim.
Hi mate, I presume that this camp spot is above the pinnacles and that is the Pinnacle Look out, and yes i have been their but always drive past, also back in the 70's we put a blanket over the motor but lifted the bonnet t5hen closed it held the blanket in place if a wind came , but enjoy your vids.
cheers
G'day Ian,
Yes it is mate. Not far from the look out and fire tower.
Great spot.
Good idea with lifting the bonnet to tuck in the sheet over the bonnet.
Thanks mate for your feedback.
Cheers Tim.
No sauce on the chips?? Another great video Tim! Love it!
Nah , cant do sauce on chips. Lol
Great spot to setup.
Thanks mate for your feedback.

G'day Tim,absolutely magnificent camp spot with those views, being a top ender you can

G'day Doug,
Hahah Lol

Another awesome video. My wife has some pie trays hmmmmmmm I might have to steal them haha
Hahah Lol
Give it a go mate.
Cheers Tim.
thanks tim for the awesome trip video. Definitely sad to see all the snow the resorts had, hopefully out of lockdown with around 40cm forecast for weekend.
G'day Hamish,
Thanks mate, it was a great spot to setup.
Yeah mate, a heap of snow coming over the next few days.
Hopefully lock down ends so people can hit the slopes.
Thanks mate for your reply.
Cheers Tim.
Stunning!
Thanks mate.
Great spot.
Cheers Tim.
what a great spot Tim. love the pies and chips you gave me some ideas. i just got back from my solo trip in the mountains. i have a 4x4 sprinter van with a built in diesel heater/block heater it heats a cold motor fast and me too. its the best time of the year hey.
It's a great spot mate. The pies went down a treat.
Sure is the best time mate, i love camping during winter.
Thanks for your feedback.
Cheers Tim
Hehe nice cook up,l still in cane toad country and fire wood is scares as the pigs stop coming up to my camp site, that's the 4 legged ones. I will be putting that site on our list to camp if you let us back into Vic,l feel like l got the plaque.
G'day Greg,
Stay safe mate up North.
Not great down here.
Plenty of firewood in the High Country
I hope you can check it out some day soon.
Can't wait.
G'day mate,
Yeah first time using the round pie trays as you could see. Lol
I'll get better as i make more of them
Thanks mate for the tip.
Cheers
Gday mate,
I’ve never experienced that problem with condensation on the under side of my awning.
Could be the material it’s made from.
I sent my awning up on a slight angle to one corner.
Never flat.
That could be a consideration.
Thanks a lot for your feedback mate.
Cheers Tim
Bloody rippa Tim!
Pies looked amazing mate.
They sure were mate. Unreal cook up in the cold wind.
Thanks mate for your reply.
Cheers Tim.
Yeah she looked a bit chilly.
Bloody locked down here, can’t get out for a camp. It’s tough.
Were bloody spoilt here aren't we Batesy? Awesome views and another great vid.
Yeah Mick, heaps of stunning views like that around the high country.
Top spot.
Cheers Tim.
Awesome chill spot mate man I'd love to pop over the ditch one day and see some of that place its beautiful!!
Gday mate,
If you can, try and get over.
We might cross paths during mid flight. Lol
I’d love to explore NZ
One day.
Gday Jason,
Thanks mate.
Cheers Tony
G'day Tony,
Yeah mate, sometimes camping up high can have a price.
Love it 👍🏼
Yeah mate. Amazing views at the summit.
Thanks for your feedback.
I’m glad you found the video helpful.
Cheers Tim.
Gday Mitch.
It’s a top spot with amazing views, that’s for sure.
I’m glad you found this video helpful on diesel fuel.
Thanks mate for your feedback.
Cheers Tim
Tim ive camped in that exact spot during winter last year its a great spot.
Yeah mate. It’s a top spot.
Cheers Tim.
About time you did up some Batesy pies. Looked good mate , But i was never surprised to see them come outta your camp oven.
G'day mate,
Yeah my pie mix has been in development for a while now. So good making a couple in the mighty camp oven in the High Country.
They are so good.
Thanks mate for your reply.
Cheers Tim.
That looked bloody cold, great job on the pies
G'day Rodger,
It sure was mate, but still great being at high elevation in those conditions.
The pies went down a treat. Lol
Cheers Tim.
Hi Tim, you inspired me to get back to basics. Picked up a few items for cooking over the fire and have ditched the gas. Had the best flame grilled T-bone last weekend just up near woodfood at Running Creek and heading to Gordon Country for retreat camping in August. Can't wait. Thanks! D
G'day Daniel,
Thats great mate if my videos are helping to get out in the bush and cooking on the campfire.
Great way to cook meals mate.
Running Creek is a really nice spot.
I hope you get your trip away in August mate.
Thanks for your reply.
Cheers Tim
G'day Dan.. enjoy Gordon Country, make sure you get up to the lookouts.
Hi Mark, will do, we be doing some exploring, looks like some good 4x4 tracks. Booking the creek camping zone today. Can't wait!
Great video ol mate, just in regards to the canvas over the motor in cold temperatures, it actually works better if you open the bonnet and drape the blanket or canvas over the actual motor…
G'day Garry,
Ahh righto. I've not tried that way.
It's always worked well as shown in the video.
Thanks heaps for your feedback.
Cheers Tim
Wonderful part of Aussie Tim thanks for showing, nothing beats local knowledge. PS I m a fan of that vest looks like oil skin with wool lining?
It sure is a great spot mate, very relaxing thats for sure.
Yeah the vest is Driza Bone.
Cheers Tim.
Love ALL of your videos..
I just can't do cold.... ever.... yeah nah
G'day,
Camping during winter isn't for everyone, but gee it's so refreshing with the mountain air at those elevations.
Just need to be prepared for the cold and it's unreal.
Thanks a lot for your feedback.
Cheers Tim.
Your positive nature is a credit to you, Can you do a video on how to mix your own alpine fuel, Others may like that, Cheers
G'day Paul,
Thanks mate for your feedback. Glad you enjoyed the video. It was a top spot.
I have a few videos now on my channel about how and why i mix my own alpine diesel mix.
I hope they help you out mate.
Cheers Tim
Crikey, thought I was watching a cooking show there for a while!😅
Great video, I could feel the cold coming out of my phone!
Where did you get your vest from mate?
Very cold that night.
Great spot though.
Driza Bone vest
Cheers Tim
Never any issues with fire wood up there Tim.
No mate, heaps of fire wood around.
Cheers Tim
Beautiful spot Tim . Its an amazing place our Australia mate , bloody beauty cheers buddy :)

Thanks for your reply.

I know exactly where your camped , good spot , I always seem to tend to camp down a bit lower to get out of the wind but you don't get that view , love the pies and chips in the camp oven will have to give that a crack , something to stick to your ribs on a cold night love it.
G'day Andrew,
Yeah mate, it is a ripper spot to camp. Great views thats for sure.
Those pies and chips in the camp oven were great mate. Lol
Thanks for your reply.
G'day Paul,
Thanks mate for dropping in from the UK.
Lol
Maybe one day.
Take care mate.
Cheers Tim.
When you said about cooking up a feed… I thought of shanks straight away…. Didn’t think of pies.. nice one tim.
G'day Mark,
Haha Lol
Shanks in the camp oven are wicked. But the pies and chips were fantastic on the cold night.
Thanks mate for your reply.
Cheers Tim.
Another great one Timbo!! Cheers Steve
Thanks mate.
Cheers Tim.
Great spot mate! Now the pies… you know you wanna tell us. 😂👍🇦🇺
Hahah Lol
One day i might let on what goes into my pie mix. Lol
Thanks for your reply.
Cheers Tim.
Enjoy this one heaps mate well done
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it.
Really nice spot.
Thanks for your feedback.
Cheers Tim.
A brilliant camp and view to match. How did you pick up the pies from the camp oven with your bare hands? Thanks, Always entertaining.
G'day mate,
Top spot mate with amazing views.
Not sure mate, just reached in and grabbed them . Lol
Thanks for your feedback.
Cheers Tim.
Another cracking video Tim. Always enjoy them.
Always try to count how many cameras you use on your videos. I'm guessing 2, one GoPro and one of those multi angle cameras. 😉
Good tip on converting bonnet to keep engine warm at night...
Thank you for this video, Tim. Great stuff!
Gday mate,
Wow super detailed reply.
I always mix my own during winter, be to be safe than sorry and the car not starting when it’s time to go home.
Thanks heaps for dropping in from Norway mate. I greatly appreciate it.
Cheers Tim.

great video love your work instead of pie tins have you tried to make your pies like a paste or turnover as your meat is already cooked it will give you less waste of the pastry we have done this in the camp oven and they come out quite well all the best to you and stay safe

No i hadn't thought about the way you mentioned.
