My Grandpa Gumps played for Portage Lake Elks the Painsedale Panthers and other teams with his brother William, my Great Aunt Ruth played with the Sextets! Still have the picture of Aunt Joan as a baby in the MacNaughton Cup, I wonder how many Houghton County babies had their picture taken in that Cup? Thank you posting : )

Just watched part one, and was happy to see, part two here. Then was terrified when I saw parts 3-10 too. Who knows, there might be more, I haven't checked yet. Looks like I'm not sleeping. Hockey marathon! Thank you Canada.

Didier Pitre is my new hockey hero for toasting the crowd before he hits the ice.

Seriously what is wrong with saying I started watching the Kings when Wayne Gretzky was around that's how I fell in love with hockey? You are from America and then America it's our fourth sport so there's no shame in saying that instead you just tell lies

This is when Hockey became a money game and also its a great thing the Patrick Brothers changed the game made it better. Goal Tenders can kneel and go down anything to make a save that i agree on

When people talk about the greatest players of all time I always silently hope someone mentions Fred Taylor. It never happens sadly. The first super star of all time.

    • @martyvenida

Yes, Fred "Cyclone" Taylor was indeed hockey's first superstar. The only Stanley Cup Vancouver has seen to this day.

When I realized that the Fred at the beginning was "Cyclone"... as a Vancouver fan, I lost my mind.

Wonderful stuff, I had no knowledge of the early days of hockey but now I know why there was a Patrick Division - presumably Mr Smythe and Mr Norris turn up a bit later?

More fitting for Pt. 1, but I was very disappointed that there was no mention of the origin and evolution of the PUCK. Did every "well-off college boy" in the late 19th century just happen to have a 1"x3" round chunk of rubber? (bless the patrick brothers)

This is very important, the puck and the hard checking are the main differences between hockey and bandy. In fact in Eurasia hockey its icepuck and bandy is iceball.

William Abraham ''Billy'' Hewitt! His son, Foster, will become the famous broadcaster for the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 1890's, Hewitt work as copyboy for the Toronto News and the editor left him in charge in a afternoon with instructions to fire a young reporter! This reporter, student in law school for University of Toronto, is the futur prime minister, William Lyon Mackenzie King.
