    Thanks for the video. Great point regarding the “founders” rhetoric around freedom while at the same time they were denying it to thousands

      The propagandizing began immediately.

      Really glad you like them! Some listeners are *not* fans, lol, but that’s what I get for interjecting. I appreciate knowing that you find them useful!

    Thank you for reading these- and you read them so well. Your colonial impressions lend some humor to this somber telling of American history

    I do not believe that the original wording was life, Liberty, and the protecting a property in the declaration of Independence. Most likely Thomas Jefferson took the phrase from John Locke who wrote life,Liberty and the protection of estate or something along those lines. Thomas Jefferson originally wrote life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

      Accents are great sometimes corny but makes it fun. Tried listening to some chapters Of Howard Zinn on another UA-camrs channel flat and boring

    Its really hard to take this seriously when every quote is read with a stereotypical, historically inaccurate accent. I understand wanting to make the reading more engaging and what not but seriously the "please sir may i have some more" voice is getting old, almost as fast as the stereotypical bostonian accent is

      @Audio Anarchy i dont mean to be harsh, it just seems trivializing given the context of the book being read

      @AudioAnarchy i like it lol it makes them feel more cartoonishly evil which they were by all accounts

      @poopymcmonke Рік тому

      @guapochico69 yeah except they werent cartoonish, they were real people whos decisions had a huge impact on American history. To me this book is meant to convey the real weight of these events, making it into some kind of quirky voice acting gig takes away from everything howard was trying to portray in this book. Its not aupposed to be fun, it wasnt fun when it happened, and the consequences of these events that we still feel today are not fun. I can practically guarantee anyone who had to face the brunt of these events would have the same sentiment that i do in regards to the quirky voices. Its not only insulting the overall message of this book, but its disrespectful to the millions of people who had to live through it- especially when these (might i add borderline racist) voices are tacked on to quotes from the victims of slavery. Might as well spit in their face

      @guapochico69 all i can say is imagine that you were born into and died as a slave on a plantation, and then 100 years later someone recounts your suffering but they turn you into a dancing clown by giving you some kind of stereotypical southern slave accent just bc they want the slave book to be more fun

    In this book you will get a perspective that has never been taught in schools. It's a shame that this information is being utilized to drive an agenda. At the end the orator makes a commentary which he ends by saying now go on and seize the means of production my little anarchist friends. Countries like Denmark, Sweden and Finland have done well because they have utilized the free-market to fund social programs for the good of its citizens. When the means of production is controlled by a central government it causes productivity and Innovation to stall. It lowers the standard of living for everyone except the few who control the means of production. Even China had to implement capitalistic policies in order to advance and modernize the country. Now China has more millionaires than the United States. Countries that took control of the means of production like Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea and the Third Reich have been dismal failures.

      Ok but all those models you love still rely on the exploitation of the 3rd world via extraction, unequal exchange, and participate in foreign wars all the while still under the thumb of the international monetary fund (IMF) just like the rest of the world that benefits greatly from capitalism being the dominant global economy. As long as "free markets" exist, exploitation will exist and exploitation leads to a rising right wing due to a lack of class consciousness intrinsic to the ideology of liberalism. And saying full central control of markets is wrong is stupid on its face as every major corporation in america and across the world plan their economic growth, needs, and outputs to a microsopic level. If a private company can control the wages rent and quality of life of the public through monopolies or just general control over inelastic demands like medicine food and housing completely free of public oversight or direction how is it impossible for the people themselves to democratically determine who the market should serve. Isms just determine who gets the majority of the surplus value created in an industrialized economy.

      Also socialism and communism are supposed to come after the period of industrialization or development of capitalism and near the end of late stage capitalism we shouldve already transitioned into a society where technological advancements would help the working class not replace us because the monetary incentives of capitalism are still in full swing to replace workers with automation to completely control inputs outputs and surplus value allocation.
