I like how you understood all the positions of both Paul and Rudy. Many people took the Paul side more aggressively because they had watched the show from Rudeus's perspective. But you focused on their conversation and understood it correctly.
It's not just that like at the end of the day for most of us we see it has Paul is the father and Rudy is the son so we expect Paul to be the better. This isn't to say Paul isn't also correct in his feelings.
@@bmomgrimm6242 Paul Is Incorrect, Paul assumed crap, never assume crap. Rudy had zero knowledge that the event was a displacement event. As far as he knows the explosion was only a football field in size and caught his group. No way of knowing it was 40+ miles in every direction and everyone was teleported. They were trying to go back HOME where they thought things would be the same as they left, minus them
@@zero2champion419 they both assumed different things. Rudy assumed that he didn't need to worry about his family and Paul assumed Rudy would travel through adventurer's guilds where news was posted and/or try to make contact.
@@baalzamon3593 you cant put Rudeus and Paul on the same playing field. It doesn't matter what Rudeus has assumed because for all Paul knows Rudeus is still a child. Paul expected too much out of Rudeus, he thought Rudy was looking for the other family members in his own way. So when he saw Rudeus, his expectations were shattered, hence why he reacted the way he did. No matter how you look at it, Paul was in the wrong.
I've been coming across a lot of those lately where you can't outright say ok he's wrong she's right. It's more of a well...they're both wrong and right!
@@teddymecheto real life is a lot more complex than most fiction is capable of capturing. Mushoku does a much better job than the vast majority of fiction, especially fantasy
@@baalzamon3593 I honestly feel like people try too hard to capture how complex life is when life tends to vary a lot. From totally cut and dry to a complete quagmire to complete and utter chaos. It always feel better to me to mix it all up instead of having something all be gray or all be black and white.
@@teddymecheto ol this is where people get the wrong idea about character development and Rudeus. You can't just change his personailty over night or just a few episode, it have to be over dramatic events. He cant just be perverted and walaa I'm a new leaf and not a pervert anymore. It took times and something happen in order for him to change
I dunno if I can agree about Paul being right at all. How would Rudy have even begun to imagine the mana disaster reached anywhere but the field they were in. From his perspective, there were zero clues to any of it.
I've been waiting for teddy's reaction to rudeus' panty scene and I'm not disappointed lol 💀 BTW the woman who's almost naked has a backstory that the anime never explained. She and her sister who's wearing the cloak are also victims of the mana disaster. They became sex slaves and was saved by Paul. She's wearing that daring outfit because her sister got traumatized by the sexual abuse and can't stand being looked at by males so she wore it to get the attention of males away from her sister. ALSO, Rudeus has been using Ruijerd's name when he does something good so it would help improve the Superd's reputation. That's why Rudeus apologized to Ruijerd before the panty licking scene cause he's about to do something disgusting lol
@@fozza1051 if you're opposed to scantily clad women, then anytime one is animated, will feel like a poor excuse for fan service. You'll say something like "that could have been expressed verbally rather than visually showing jiggle physics up close." For me, the sight of the Devil's Melons isn't something that offends
Rudy never asumed that Buena village was caugh in the explosion because of how far away they were. Rudy traveled with a carriage from Buena to Roa within 6-7 hours, knowing that a 2horse carriage goes 3-4 miles per hour thats around 24-28miles (38-45 kilometars). That would mean that the explosion went 28+miles in range which is more than 7x the size of a nuke. And Rudy was quite LITEARLLY infront of the explosion when it happened, so he never assumed it would go that far.
Yeah but he could have send a message like. I am fine, he didn’t even bother to tell his family that he is alive. And tbh he was like that because he was having an adventure and it was like a ‘game’ for him( i don’t blame him, just saying how it is, but i get both sides)
@@novicelifts5197 this world isn't like ours, where a letter will almost definitely reach it's recipient, especially not from the Demon Continent. Not saying Rudeous didn't take this likely, but even if he wanted to send a letter, it never would have reached most likely
@@novicelifts5197 Rudeus did not know that Paul was in Millis so he would send a letter to Buena Village and as Paul said they were all teleported so the letter would be useless because there would be no one to receive it and you must also remember that letter was in a demonic continent it could have been broken, disappeared, stolen while "someone" delivered it.
@@novicelifts5197 I mean, he'd been living under orders not to write or contact home for 3 years at that point, letter writing was probably far from his mind as it just wasn't something he was used to doing. And he probably didn't even believe that mail would travel to-from the demon continent. Hence why he only thought about writing once he was in MIlis.
@@MJ-jd7rs oh and it will be expanded upon later that the mail system in this world is absolute dog-poop tier compared to even our own 19th century type mail systems... just a thought.
Rudy didn't get a chance to go the the adventures guild at Zant Port because he went to get Ruijerd right away and got caught up in Beast Village incident. It's understandable that it didn't cross Rudy's mind that the scope of the mana disaster was big as it was because he was at the epicenter of the disaster. Paul taking out his frustration on Rudy is understandable too until he went too far with the Eris comment. Both of them aren't entirely wrong or right.
Rudy didn’t care for Zenith and even admits it in the Light novel that the thought didn’t even cross his mind. Also Rudeus is an incredibly gifted person so it’s normal to expect more from him. Paul might be wrong from their world’s perspective for scolding a 11 year old, but ultimately Rudeus mentally speaking isn’t a child so he’s the most guilty.
@@frumpyk3245 bro I've read all the volumes of the WN , but what'ya talking about? Sure it didn't cross his mind but he definitely DO CARE for Zenith...
@@jebes909090 yeah but it seems like the trope of goblins doing those things to human females have been a trope in japan even before goblin slayer came out
Just a little extra to put in context: Paul was so miserable looking that Rudy purposely tried to give him a "fun" version of his adventures in order to avoid making him distressed, and because he saw Norn, he thought Paul had already found Zenith, Aisha and Lylia too, hence the reason he asked for Sylphie and not his other family members. He also did not expected the Mana Disaster to go all the way to Buena Village as well. Also, Eri's Goblin slaying part will have an OVA in the near future with really important content in order to understant the next few seasons that will most likely become animated.
Rewatching the first part of episode 11 of the first part of the season hits harder after seeing this episode. The story telling is superb. Also, rudeas HAS grown. You'll see it, it's subtle but you'll for sure see it.
In 13 days they are releasing a Extra episode containing Eris's Adventure of Goblin Slaying. It's going to be an important Episode and matter in Future story. You should watch it too.
About the light dressed warrior girl, she actually has a reason to dress that way. She and her sister were teleported too, and her sister (the girl hidding behind her all the time) was enslaved and forced to make "indecent" works. After being rescued, the warrior girl decided to dress lightly to attract the gazes to her instead of her sister, who was traumatized from the events. And it seems it works pretty well, you and most people didn't even notice the other girl.
I live for Eris' immediate outright indignation at someone hurting Rudeus, man, Eris is amazing, I hope someone will ever love me like that. Also, there will be an OVA soon depicting Eris' goblin slayer quest, I can't wait.
Saint Millis is really God level, imagine the straight line from Millishion to the Great Forest is actually a single swing of Saint Millis' sword that sliced straight through the Blue Dragon Mountain Range, the Great Forest, and even cut down a Demon Lord on the Demon Continent, the road is eventually named "Holy Sword Highway".
@@Dialga9187 The Great Demon War has a better one: There was a great battle according to a history book Rudeus read in the Boreas library where the golden-armored hero Aldebaran on the human side fought against the Great Emperor of the Demon World Kishirika Kishirisu, and an attack either used rent the continent to the point of separating the Demon continent and the Central Continent. The Ringus Sea is a crater the size of the Pacific Ocean.
Ok, so, novel info that was left out. Letters do not reach their destination that easily, Roxy had to send the letter Rudy got 10+ episodes ago 6 times to get it delivered, she sent the box with the book on the demon language with A class adventurers iirc to make sure it would reach Rudy. There was no "Paul letter/announcement" on any of the adventurers' guilds until they reached the port town on the central continent, where Rudeus got kidnapped before he could get to the adventurers' guild. He could have thought about the mana disaster reaching Buena village but he didn't, he had a lot on his plate, the Demon Continent is an extremely harsh place, to get even the simplest thing, like firewood, you have to kill a cactus like monster (the demon continent variant was a dried up thing), they're lucky Rudy can create water with magic, the food was monsters they killed, which was disgusting, Rudeus had to buy herbs and spices to make it somewhat decent.
The novel was pretty good with the logistics of travel Yeah, sending a letter across the demon continent would have been very expensive, and sending a letter outside the demon continent would have been ever more so, because thats the poorest continent, and their money loses a lot of value in other countries Thats why Rudeus' staff, that was about 100 gold coins, could have covered Ruijerd's fee of 2000 green ore coins Earning the money to send _a single letter_ across the whole world would have taken months Getting out of the demon continent _and then_ sending a letter was the only reasonable move
It's not that Rudy didn't send a letter it's that he didn't even try to. The thought literally never crossed his mind until a year and a half later. That's the problem. Although in Rudy's defense he was given a mission by the man god, he's also pretty independent and i don't think he ever truly considered Paul and Zenith as his real parents but just people who happened to give birth to him. It's a very well written and complex situation where both are in the right and in the wrong at the same time. Paul has every right to be upset with him but knowing what could have happened he really should just be glad that his son is safe. celebrate now be mad later.
@@BhBc8f8 paul has no right lol. As far as he knows hes raging at an 11 year old for not acting like an omnipotent god and just understanding how everything in the world works and acting like a responsible adult. The only reason paul ISNT just completely and utterly a peice of shit is that WE know that Rudy isnt actually an 11/12 year old. Paul doesnt know that though, and the way he acted is entirely out of line.
"Fun" bit of trivia about Sierra, the girl with the bikini armor, she and her sister got sexually abused after they got teleported by the mana disaster, her sister is traumatized and can't stand men looking at her so Sierra wears the most revealing clothing she can find to make sure that every man stares at her instead of her sister.
I love the final scene where Eris is trying her best to comfort Rudy. When you look at it, it's the first time she's really shown such genuine and pure care for him. His reaction sells it all, he really needed it.
Before this ep, none of us knew how far the blast radius was, we knew it that it affected the city because of the previous ep showing the death of her grandfather but we didn't know it was wider. When Rudy and eris got teleported Rudy was hugging eris and Ghislaine was nearby but didn't teleport with them, that could explain some things
I recall that moment when the group passed by the quest board thingy at Zant and wondering 'what is that letter?' and here's the pay off. Love that anime
Zant guild wasn't in the anime. Season 1 only showed the Rikaris and Millishion adventurer's guilds. Can't remember if it was in the manga. The OVA for season 1 did have a letter fall off the quest board, and I assume that was Paul's notice. I can't read Human Tongue, so I can't tell.
Mandatory copypasta about the reason behind Vierra's dress since they most probably won't say/show in the anime: . . . Vierra and her sister Sierra were victims of the mana disaster. They were found by bandits and sexually abused. Paul rescued them and they joined the search team. Sierra (the girl in robes and long hair) was so traumatized that even the stares of men gives her PTSD (except for Paul, who rescued them). Her sister Vierra dresses like that when she's with her sister so that men's stares fall on her instead. In the anime you can see her wearing a cloak to cover herself while checking on Norn, but she usually wears normal clothing otherwise.
i don't blame rudy, he was almost in the center of the mana disaster, so in his mind it was probably something small that affected just a small area, he just never thought that it would be so big that had reached his house and teleported his family.
Yeah but he could have send a message like. I am fine, he didn’t even bother to tell his family that he is alive. And tbh he was like that because he was having an adventure and it was like a ‘game’ for him( i don’t blame him, just saying how it is, but i get both sides)
@@novicelifts5197 I agree in the point that he is guilty for not even thinking in send a message for his family, but the author sad that the cards and messages can't cross the continents, so it was impossible for him to see the massage from Paul and to send them a massage, even if he wanted. He is wrong not for the fact that he couldn't but for not even thinking in doing this.
@@novicelifts5197 No. A message would have traveled no faster than he had, even if he had thought of it. The mail system in the setting doesn't seem to rely even on carrier pigeons, it's all either on foot or on a beast of burden. It took a whole day for mail to travel one way between Roa and Buena, well over a year between Roa and Millishion, etc. Other than the info on adventurer cards and the stela of the Seven world Powers, all information transfer is snail mail. And that's when a letter does reach its destination.
Eris is super strong! And I believe when they first got teleported I heard you mentioned something about the rest of the family. So you atleast questioned where the others were. Rudy didn't even get there. But also, he is a neet in mind and it is normal and easily expected that he wouldnt come to that way of thinking naturally. Spending most of his life isolated, it is more than likely that he hasn't put in to practice or exercised empathy for family and other people as much as regular people have. Isolation has that effect on people. I'm sure a normal person would have questioned about atleast Eris's family had they been in that situation.
That's because we watched the mana disaster not only from Rudeuses perspecvtive but Roxys, Kishirikas, Perigiuses and other guys perspective that created the feeling something big coming from not just a blast that can hit 500 meters away. Rudeus has almost no reason to think about it will take to Buena village maybe Eris' hometown bec. they were near to it maybe some clues about a lot of falling stars that night and Man-Gods little mention. And they teleported far far away that people dont even know about mana disaster until they reached Milision.
@@domesticjaguar , Yeah but he could have questioned about Eris's family first, because on the morning after Eris's birthday he saw one of the mana balls in the sky when he went to speak to Sauros and prayed to it.
@@julianpumarejo8719 There was only that one mana ball. The Red Orb was spotted by Sauros when Rudeus would've been five and it started producing those clouds after his tenth birthday.
Since everyone's commenting about how I said rudeus should've known to look for his family. I got my sentence mixed up so I started saying one thing and then switched to talking about myself halfway but left it cause I figured who gives a f. Well apparently everyone cause everyone keeps pointing it out in the comments. Also rudeus could've def sent a letter and y'all know that. Bye
Yeah but to give more context he could have sent a letter but the letter would have taken about as much time as he did to get to Paul or longer. The demon continent is insanely rough. So he would have had to save up a lot of money to hire a good adventurer to deliver that letter. Only almost no adventurer is actually stronger than Eris, Rudy and Rujiard as a team. So the letter would likely arrive too late to matter while burning up valuable money. Like just the letters Roxy and him sent between each other required sending five to ten copies each with different people to make it. So imagine trying to hire a guy to walk from say New york to Shanghai with no Cars or airtravel.
as others have already pointed out, the mail system in this world is DOG SHIT, sending a letter requires multiple letters being sent to just get the letter to where you want, Roxy sent 10 seperate letters to Rudeus and the one with the box and book she sent him she paid a shit tonne to ensure it got to him, it would have cost Rudeus a fortune to send a letter from the demon continent and it most likely would have NEVER ARRIVED so No Rudeus couldn't have sent a letter as it would have been too expensive
Others pointing out that the mail system in this world is dogshit. That's a good point. But he could have at least tried. Even Paul who is part of this world and knows a lot about the world said "You didn't even write a letter". And the Man-god when he first met Rudy described what happened as a large scale mana disaster. Rudy himself used that term when he explained their situation to Rujierd. It was also in the novel that in Rudy's inner monologue, he admitted that he should have thought that the effects of the teleportation incident was widespread because of those words. Therefore, he really dun goofed by not trying to send a mail or asking around for some info on the teleportation incident, because if they got teleported there, other people could have been also.
@@moalboris239 "New york to Shanghai with no Cars or airtravel" Rudeus' voyage home would be the equivalent of going from Johannesburg to Santiago de Chile with the same conditions.
When Eris ask the guy to teach her cooking skill,in the manga and novel,he said that he's reluctantly to teach her because one of female party member ask the same thing and he teach her so she can cook for a person she likes then the party break apart because the girl put some aphrodisiac in the cooking dish and the girl became pregnant and they need to retire for being an adventure and of course the girl are Rudeus mom and the man are Rudeus father😅😅
This episode hit me more than the others, bcs I also feeled ashamed just like Rudeus, bcs I didn't think about the other people missing. I like how they actually made an agrument, where none of the participants are 100% right. These are the moments I am loving this show(WN) novel so much. My 2 other favourite parts of the WN are also similar to this moment, and I so love it. It feels much more mature than any other anyme i have watched. The 2 other moments are spoiler tho, so careful there: Rudeus making up with Norn after she secluded herself in her dorm. The entire arc, when he takes her mother to her family's house, and she gets "kidnapped".
People needed to have physical contact in order to be teleported together, that's why Eris and Rudeus ended up in the same place while Ghislaine went missing. Same goes for Paul and Norn, if you re-watch episode 8 you'll find out that Paul was holding Norn when the disaster happened.
@@zero2champion419 It's not a spoiler, it's a theory based on the common points shown so far in the anime, that's why I didn't mention... (spoiler alert) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Lilia and Aisha
You know, if you only focus on the flaws of a character, you'll miss the virtues. A diamond in the rough, a single flower growing from the rock. Rudy is willing to put his life and reputation on the line to save someone he doesn't even know. He hates killing. He will bend over backwards to help improve the lives of those he loves. Guy's got my respect. Does that make him perfect? Absolutely not. But honestly, if he was perfect, it would make him completely unrelatable and his accomplishments wouldn't mean as much.
And can we take a moment to appreciate Paul. Guy's been running himself ragged rescuing people from the village and worrying about his family. So much so that his own health is in decline. He's still an absolute beast who knows how to close a fight. Wordless casting from a mage straddling the line between Saint and King class? Easy victory if Paul when he tries. Absolute Chad
Yea he will never turn into a beacon purity. He will always a little WTF, note it’s mostly shown in part of his life. I think most people get caught up in his pervert aspects, and believe that’s his main issue. When really it’s a long list. 20 years in one room with barely any human interaction won’t build the most well adjusted person.
@@terencebarnes7393 no, he never fully clears his past hangups and being a little pervert is probably his biggest one. I also realize that some people can't get past his 35 years previous life span and view him not just as a pervert, but also a grown man making moves on teenage girls. I personally view him as a child. Even in his previous life, he never really "grew up". Now he's a child with puberty hormones. I'd rather have this version of Rudy than a generic self insert who's flawless, overpowered without working for it, and granted an instant harem of tsundere who fight over him. Love or hate this character, you'll remember him and what makes him unique long after you've forgotten a dozen other fantasy MCs
@@baalzamon3593 Yep agree 100%. Typically by this point in the show dude is OP ,if he had any problems they are long gone and they ether time skipped past it or one fight got them over it. The only benefit Rudy has is dying at his age is he knows what life looks like when you don’t try. So gave himself a head start, knowing the benefits of taking your life seriously. 97% of isakai are self insert. They are blank slates with no flaws. Some are entertaining ,but most come out like fast food. I do get this show/story not for everyone especially if his death age is a huge sticking point. I look at it like this, there is a big reason why his previous name is never mentioned ever. I recall hearing stories of people being reincarnation or remembering a past life. There is real story of kid solving a mxrder of missing man that was him in past life. Had every detail down and pointed out kxller and was all proved.
@@terencebarnes7393 I don't know if it's quite 96%, but the self insert is really common. I love Konosuba, Tanya the Evil (that's the show that got me into anime), Ascendance of a Bookworm, and Total Fantasy Knockout. Unsurprisingly, none of my favorites are self inserts. All of the MCs have personality and/or are genuinely hilarious. I think Mushoku is probably the best fantasy anime I've ever seen There are several others that are good enough to finish, but not good enough to watch a 2nd time.
I think they specifically kinda brush over the detail about everyone getting lost during a credit scene specifically to not draw too much attention on it for this exact payback. If so, really well done.
I don't get why Rudy doesn't say that he was right at the epicenter of the teleport-disaster and had no way of knowing it's scope - and from the looks of it, he never heard anything about it until now.
That's part of the beauty of the show. Rudy has over a year of adventure to speak on and he personally wants to phrase it in a way that doesn't stress Paul. What he thinks to say in the moment isn't what we think would have been best in hindsight. Frankly, I prefer this style of characters conversing to the Naruto style of taking 12 minutes each episode to say your whole life story twice over just to explain why you won't give up.
The novel explains it a bit better. He basically feels like maybe Paul is right and he should have done better and it causes him to stress out and feel like it is all his fault. So he stops arguing and leaves while getting depressed.
Me wishing to be one of the character and tell them this: "We surly understand them. We know they both gone through hell physically and emotionally, but can we just stop pointing fingers and understand the situation.. let's just celebrate a little bit cuz we're alive and talk about things later."
"The Mana Disaster went pretty far, huh?" The map on the LN doesn't give a scale bar, but comparing the distance between Roa and Rikaris to Paris and Las Vegas (by way of the Pacific) would point to the Teleportation Incident scouring a circle that Germany would fit into in its entirety. Map comparisons get wonky because the Human World is flat and Earth maps are projections of a sphere unto a flat surface. The radius reached hundreds of kilometers.
In truth, there was not much point in looking for people in the Demon Continent. Many people died instantly during teleportation, while monsters on the demonic continent are more common and they are much stronger, so if the victims could not immediately find a strong protector / guide, this is certain death for them. Those who are strong enough to survive on the Demon Continent on their own... don't really need to be saved. So Paul's accusations are largely groundless, he is rather furious because of his own inability to find his relatives.
Couple of fun facts from the story that weren't mentioned here in the anime 1. Geese refused to let Eris cook because he once taught another girl how to cook. He was in an adventurer's party with this girl and he considered her to be like a little sister. She asked him on how to cook and turns out she wanted to learn to be able to impress another dude that was in their same party. She managed to win him over with her cooking that Geese taught her and they got married but thanks to that the group dissolved. Geese then promised himself that he would never teach how to cook again. 2. The girl with the revealing clothes that was with Paul actually does it for a very kind and noble reason. Her slittle sister, the magician girl with the long hair that was standing next to her was a slave... thanks to the threatment she received due to this she developed a trauma and she now can't bear the stare of any men at all, it stresses her out and makes her panick. So her big sister decided to wear revealing clothes to purposely draw the eyes of men to her and make them ignore her sister.
Rudy asked about Sylphie because he assumed his family must be safe after seeing Norn (Paul may look like crap, but Norn was obviously in a good shape, clean etc)
A little clarification: information takes a long time to move in that world. The demon continent hadn't gotten word of disaster or anyone helping Paul's search until Roxy and friends got there, by which time Rudy and co were on their way out. As soon as they got to human territory, Rudy went to pick up Ruijiard and was immediately captured by the Beast Folk, an isolated community, and stayed there for three months.
If you think about it, it's logic for Rudeus being more worried about Sylphie, Lilia was trained in the sword art since childhood(where she met Paul), and Zenith was an rank-S adventurer, in comparison when the mana disaster happened Sylphie was the most in danger, being just a little girl with some knowledge of magic and no experience from the real world
I disagree. Being S-class, especially if you're a healer like Zenith, doesn't mean you can just take on threats left and right. Rudy should know that by being a gamer in his past life that healer classes are vulnerable without a party. Also, in the novel, Rudy saw an S-class party (Aqua Road) guarding the ship that he and Eris used to go to Millis continent, and he observed that individually, they're weaker than him. But they're really good at teamwork so they're S-class. Even if Zenith is stronger than most healers, I would always worry more about my mom than someone who's not related to me, even if its a friend, and that friend is very talented and can cast incantation-less spells too. Blood is thicker than water.
Honestly I always felt that was nitpicky to me. Maybe because my family situation is different but for me it doesn't really matter who people worry about first. Just that once the full context is known everyone you care for is known to be in trouble. I can understand why that would bother Rudy though given how he feels about how he treated his family in his last life. But as a thing I'd personally just be happy knowing someone was worried about me and wanted to help even if their first thought was for their girlfriend or sibling or whatever.
@@houseofaction Except Rudy and Sylphie weren't married to each other. They were just childhood friends, not even dating. I'm in a relationship with my gf now for 7 years and I can tell you that if the same thing happened to me, I'd worry about my mom first. It makes no sense to look for my girlfriend or childhood friend first.
Don't worry, I only respecting Rudeus after Turning Point 4, which will Happen around the middle of Season 3 cour 1, I started liking after an event that will probably happen some 2-3 episodes after that. So you're cool Also, you need to put his growth in perspective. It's not his perviness, it's his self-esteem. His perviness is a consequence, not a cause. Also, that scene with the goblins was a reference to Goblin Slayer.
A note on skimpy clothes in this world. Healing stitches wounds, but doesn't remove material caught in the body. If your party has a good healer, its actually safer to fight in a bikini or shirtless
Not to mention battle aura that pretty much every combatant can use to strengthen their flesh. It essentially nullifies scratches. It isn't explained in the show, but Paul has already demonstrated it when he was training Rudeus: he released a burst of speed that rent the ground under his boot and he cut clean through a boulder with a wooden sword. It's another means of using mana. Magicians use their mana to cast spells, melee fighters use mana to strengthen themselves and use weapon abilities like the Longsword of Light of the Sword God style. Point being, if you're restricted by movement style or budget to using light armor, you're better off not bothering using any at all.
One thing the anime skipped that was in the novel is that when Rudeus first met the hitogami, hitogami said that all his family is praying for his safety and want him to make it back alive. Which if I was Rudy I would assume everyone else is safe.
The reason why there are many different cultures in one place is that the demon god Laplace once almost destroyed human beings. After the war, the survivors of different cultures gathered together to rebuild human society.
This whole conversation between Rudy and Paul is heartbreaking. As you said Rudy left out a lot of the more brutal details of his journey so as not to worry Paul. The reason Paul blames Rudy for goofing off is because to Paul Rudy was/is a genius who could do anything. Basically Paul thinks very highly of his son's skills but here are some counterpoints: When the magic disaster happened Rudy was at the epic centre and had no way of knowing how far the magic disaster reached. So for all he knew it was only him, Eris and Ghislaine that were caught up in it. Also the demon continent is incredibly slow at getting new info as most people avoid that continent for good reason. Also going to mention that Rudy didn't have the leisure of thinking as surviving in the demon continent is insanely difficult (We've seen some of the monsters that live there) and he was solely determined to get Eris home safely. Yes maybe he should have thought of his family but when you're in a situation like that you have more important things to think about. He also didn't check the adventurers guild message board at Zant port as that's the place he got captured by the beast people so he didn't have a chance to.
rudy was ground zero he would never expect that it would hit other people since he never had the posibility to think that other people got teleported before him becauase the only person he could think about of being teleported as well is ghilaine.
thats objectively false, lets say you have a wife/husband and you find out that a tsunami swept across your island nation, most people's first reaction would be to ask how their wife/husband is. before they would think about how their mother or father was
I think that’s really unfair. If I were in that situation, I probably would’ve wrongly assumed most my family was safe, especially after seeing Norn. Not to mention Zenith is an experienced adventurer while Sylphie is a child who never had formal magic training. While It’s definitely a mistake on Rudy’s part, but saying he’s not a proper human for that is a massive overstatement.
Rudeus doesn't even have to think, the calculus would be automatic: 1. Norn's right there, so why wouldn't Zenith be? Or Lilia and Aisha, for that matter. 2. Zenith was an S-class adventurer, so she's capable of surviving in adverse conditions or finding allies to help her survive even if she wasn't there. 3. Sylphy is a vulnerable 11yo girl with no combat or survival experience 4. Sylphy carries a physical abnormality that quickly leads to others discriminating her
Rudeus always made sure Eris eat all her meals even if it meant he would eat less, it was easy for him but it wasnt a walk in the park li Paul thinks it was.
remember even though ghislaine was close by, she didnt teleport with them. the reason people get teleported together is because they are touching each other during it
People give him hate for asking about Sylphie, but Sylphie is a just a little girl, she has magic but she is a child, Zenith is a retired S-rank adventurer, she really should be expected to survive the disaster and teleportation.
The timing of this upload is really good. Just a few hours ago the trailer for the Eris Goblin Slaying OVA came out. Its spoiler free so it should be ok for you to watch it. I hope you'll react to it when it comes out on March 16. Btw that girl wearing bikini armor (its not spoiler because the anime doesn't explain it) dresses up like that because when she and her sister (the mage that tried to water ball Rudy) got teleported, they were assaulted by bandits, and her little sister got severe trauma from it and can't stand the stares of men in as a result. So that girl dresses up provocatively so that men will look at her and not her sister.
Everyone who wasn't physically touching when they got teleported was separated. That's why Ghislaine wasn't teleported to the same place and Rudy or Eris. Also Rudy had no way of telling that the teleport would spread as far as the village where his family lives. It is perfectly reasonable to assume that only the people in the main city got teleported and he was too busy fighting for survival and trying to get home to really do anything to help those who got tele'd anyways. There trip was much worse in the Light Novels constantly fight much stronger monsters that appear in the other continents while walking from city to city for months on end. The anime made it seems like a cake walk but like the anime said it took them nearly 1.5 years just to get to the point they are at now.
Episode 12's ED montage was the year it took them to traverse the continent, and they'd stayed in and around Rikaris for some weeks before that, but the monster fights during those episodes showed the sort of monsters they'd fight on a daily basis, except the stone treants. The rest of the travel does add up: a month to cross over to the Millis continent (if we include staying in Wind Port), three months to stay in the Doldia village during the rainy season and about a month to travel down the Holy Sword Highway.
Was so conflicted when this episode aired. I was still team rudeus tho. Although he is 40 sth years old but he never grew mentally. I think we can all relate the thinking like everything is fine and everything gonna be fine so it makes sense why rudy didn't thought about mana diaster being that wide and since they were in middle of it too.
For me Paul was more wrong in this argument, yes Rudy is a genius since he was born but Paul expected too much from Rudy while he just a kid. On the way finding his family, Rudy even saved lives and he had no clue that his mother, Lilia, Aisha got separated from his father and Norn so thats why he asked for Sylphy instead of her mother
I mean for me even as an adult what could Rudy really do at this point? He would only be one man and Eris traveling randomly in a continent they know nothing about looking for evidence of people that if they were there they are almost certainly for years now and with no social support networks to help them find anything. Asking anyone to do really well in that kind of environment is insane.
"Girl, learn to cook for yourself" Ackshually, Eris was enthusiastic about the idea of eating raw monster meat, maybe because of Ghyslaine, Rudeus was the one who had to make sure it was properly cooked I never really got into Paul's side, because he gets funding from Zenith's family (they are nobility from this country), so him getting wasted was all of his choosing, Rudeus at the very least was too busy to deal with other rescues on top of surviving Eris was excited about killing goblins, because she had heard thats how every newbie adventurer begins, but goblins are too weak to survive on the demon continent, so she has never fought them Thats the reason there were no teleported people travelling back in the demon continent, because almost everyone who landed there died on the first day Its like, Paul is in a richer and safer area, getting funding and he still dares to point fingers? I get he is frustrated and wants to feel good by blaming someone else, but thats it Edit: the OVA for Eris' adventure during that day is on the works, the trailer is here ua-cam.com/video/hRRLKk0YRF4/v-deo.html
Getting wasted was his choosing alright. It's either that or hear Laws, Zenith, Lilia, Aisha and Rudeus call to him and beg him to tell them why he failed them. He found out what happened to Laws first; that's where he crawled into the bottle. The next he found was Rudeus months and months later. Paul is saving hundreds if not thousands of lives, but the ones that actually matter to him are nowhere to be found. He keeps his hopes up with every report that he'd see a familiar face, hear a familiar voice out of every new group he liberates. But no. His son is a genius, how could he not expect him to work miracles? The stress, the drinking and the high expectations were what soured their reunion from Paul's side. Here is your genius of a son, right after playing as a hero in the warehouse, giving a travelog of a colorful trip through the Demon Continent, with a capable escort ensuring his safety and a pretty girl by his side; and he had not spent one moment to look for anyone else teleported during the disaster, possibly missing sight of Aisha, Zenith, or Lilia, and leaving them to their fates. He was simply too wasted and too wrung out by the stress to take a step back and re-examine the situation. He sees his son as someone who'll exceed him, if he already hasn't, and essentially forgets he's an eleven year old boy, those 34 extra years of cognizance notwithstanding.
This was skipped in the anime but the reason the girl wears so little is because something happend to her sister (the girl with long hair and robe) and her sister Dislikes attention so she wears it to draw attention away from it. It wasn't just for fan service
I understand that Paul feels like he is right, but he knows nothing. Rudeus was next to where the mana disaster started which was a little away from anyone, and he has never seen a spell or magic effect to affect a larger area than the one he does. From Rudeus perspective, it would have been impossible for that to affect anyone else. Besides of taking caking care of Eris and trying to hide from any enemies, they also had to deal with being in a party with someone that everyone is afraid of. Provides protection, but Rudeous almost died a couple of times. Rudeus knew of Ghislaine but from his perspective it would be easy to think that the teleportation was to random distances since she was no where near them. It would be impossible to find anyone. Rudeus also didn't try to contact anyone because they were not in human territories, but he was about to do that. All and all, as much as Rudeus is a terrible character, there is one who has made more questionable choices, Paul. But like everyone, it is a good character if they are trying to do a redemption story, which I don't think it is the case, but some redemption maybe... who knows...
Why do you think Rudeus should know that anyone else but him Eris, Ghislain and maybe people from Roa got involved in the mana disaster? They were right at the epicenter of it. Logically he wouldn't know it spread out to encompass the entire Fittora region. We the viewers saw Paul's letter and know about his family, Rudues does not. Him being on the demon continent where news doesn't properly travel to also means he wouldn't have any way to find out about it either. In Zant port he would have at the Adventurers guild but the smuggler thing didn't allow him that opportunity either, The Holy City of Millis is literally the first place he has been to since he returned to civilization. Rudeus might be slightly wrong for thinking about Sylphie before his own mother, but that is as far as blame can be placed on his shoulders reasonably. Paul on the other hand is pretty much entirely in the wrong.
I think I didn't phrase my sentence correctly and everyone's misunderstanding. I wanted to say that he should've written back to them and should've at least thought of that
@@teddymecheto True he probably should have, though tbh it wouldn't get there unless maybe he sent 100 or so letters, the demon continent is very unreliable for stuff like that.
No, Rudy even thought about it himself that he should have known that the teleportation incident was widespread because the Man-god described it as a large scale mana disaster, and when he was explaining their situation to Rujierd, he himself used the world large scale mana disaster. Maybe its justified that he didnt think it would reach to Buena Village but he should have at least thought of people in Roa too like Saurus, Philip, and Hilda. But he didn't try to collect info or ask around. And yes, Teddy is right. He should have written to his family, but he let pass almost 2 years without writing.
@@terencebarnes7393 This anime is a heck of a lot better then most about not leaving things out from the source material but unfortunately they can't add everything.

yeah both of them are right, but i think paul is going too far with rudy Rudy doesn't understand the real situation in Fitoa, even if Rudy thinks the disaster has reached his village he must think Paul and his wife are adventurers, Paul's mind is Rudy is a genius kid and he expects more from Rudy in fact "Rudy is still 10 years old, took Eris's life" and he was thrown into a place where it is the most dangerous continent let alone think about anything else he himself will be alive tomorrow or not I know where his mother is but I don't want spoilers here

I like how you understood all the positions of both Paul and Rudy.
Many people took the Paul side more aggressively because they had watched the show from Rudeus's perspective.
But you focused on their conversation and understood it correctly.
Nope

I dunno if I can agree about Paul being right at all. How would Rudy have even begun to imagine the mana disaster reached anywhere but the field they were in.
From his perspective, there were zero clues to any of it.
I've been waiting for teddy's reaction to rudeus' panty scene and I'm not disappointed lol 💀
BTW the woman who's almost naked has a backstory that the anime never explained. She and her sister who's wearing the cloak are also victims of the mana disaster. They became sex slaves and was saved by Paul. She's wearing that daring outfit because her sister got traumatized by the sexual abuse and can't stand being looked at by males so she wore it to get the attention of males away from her sister.

The novel was pretty good with the logistics of travel
Yeah, sending a letter across the demon continent would have been very expensive, and sending a letter outside the demon continent would have been ever more so, because thats the poorest continent, and their money loses a lot of value in other countries
Thats why Rudeus' staff, that was about 100 gold coins, could have covered Ruijerd's fee of 2000 green ore coins
Earning the money to send _a single letter_ across the whole world would have taken months
Getting out of the demon continent _and then_ sending a letter was the only reasonable move

The central continent is an entirely different one.

Seeing a daily update on this series is fantastic, its like we're going tru this adventure all together.
I’ve been waiting for this one. Thanks for keeping up w/ this series!
Mandatory copypasta about the reason behind Vierra's dress since they most probably won't say/show in the anime:
.
.

The 2 other moments are spoiler tho, so careful there:
Rudeus making up with Norn after she secluded herself in her dorm.
The entire arc, when he takes her mother to her family's house, and she gets "kidnapped".
By far you are the most consistent creator on youtube.
Keep it up 👍
Eris the Gobiln slayer OVA is airing in 2 weeks (16/03).
We did not expect the impact of the teleportation either. Many lives were perished and turned up side down.
People needed to have physical contact in order to be teleported together, that's why Eris and Rudeus ended up in the same place while Ghislaine went missing. Same goes for Paul and Norn, if you re-watch episode 8 you'll find out that Paul was holding Norn when the disaster happened.
It’ll show that next episode
No need to spoil
@@zero2champion419 It's not a spoiler, it's a theory based on the common points shown so far in the anime, that's why I didn't mention... (spoiler alert)

Lilia and Aisha
LoL We Got Called Out By Paul Never Would've Phrased It Like That, 100% True Though. Fights With Family Can Be The Wurst
I think Mushoku is probably the best fantasy anime I've ever seen
There are several others that are good enough to finish, but not good enough to watch a 2nd time.
I saw somewhere that the reason that once girl dresses with barely anything is to take the eyes off her sister or something like that
I think they specifically kinda brush over the detail about everyone getting lost during a credit scene specifically to not draw too much attention on it for this exact payback.
Me wishing to be one of the character and tell them this:
"We surly understand them. We know they both gone through hell physically and emotionally, but can we just stop pointing fingers and understand the situation.. let's just celebrate a little bit cuz we're alive and talk about things later."
"The Mana Disaster went pretty far, huh?"
The map on the LN doesn't give a scale bar, but comparing the distance between Roa and Rikaris to Paris and Las Vegas (by way of the Pacific) would point to the Teleportation Incident scouring a circle that Germany would fit into in its entirety.
Rudeus making reference to "Goblin Slayer" and "Shimoneta" hahahahahha
Couple of fun facts from the story that weren't mentioned here in the anime
New trailer for Eris the Goblin slayer OVA is out!
You have to hold the person to teleport with them like how Rudy held Eris, but Gish wasn't able to reach them which is why she wasn't there
Rudy was adventuring without care coz from his pov only he and eris was teleported. It never crossed his mind that his village was effected as well
1:53 Yeah, it looks like Strasbourg (mixture of Germany and France) '^_^
was waiting for your reaction that slurp, was not dissapointed haha
A little clarification: information takes a long time to move in that world.
The demon continent hadn't gotten word of disaster or anyone helping Paul's search until Roxy and friends got there, by which time Rudy and co were on their way out.
As soon as they got to human territory, Rudy went to pick up Ruijiard and was immediately captured by the Beast Folk, an isolated community, and stayed there for three months.
a new episode about Eris goblin slaying will be released this sunday, maybe you would like to watch it too
If you think about it, it's logic for Rudeus being more worried about Sylphie, Lilia was trained in the sword art since childhood(where she met Paul), and Zenith was an rank-S adventurer, in comparison when the mana disaster happened Sylphie was the most in danger, being just a little girl with some knowledge of magic and no experience from the real world
@@astorlefflinker8417 that is you but if you were married or dating someone the first person you would think about is your partner this is a fact
Fun fact the the Eris Goblin slaying adventure will be shown in an Ova that is coming out soon.
Don't worry, I only respecting Rudeus after Turning Point 4, which will Happen around the middle of Season 3 cour 1, I started liking after an event that will probably happen some 2-3 episodes after that. So you're cool
Also, you need to put his growth in perspective.
That better be some sturdy bikini…
This was so much insightful in the Light Novel and manga also hit a bit harder for some reason.
I do agree rudy is trash but funny at the same time hahahaha
The reason why there are many different cultures in one place is that the demon god Laplace once almost destroyed human beings. After the war, the survivors of different cultures gathered together to rebuild human society.
This whole conversation between Rudy and Paul is heartbreaking. As you said Rudy left out a lot of the more brutal details of his journey so as not to worry Paul. The reason Paul blames Rudy for goofing off is because to Paul Rudy was/is a genius who could do anything. Basically Paul thinks very highly of his son's skills but here are some counterpoints:
When the magic disaster happened Rudy was at the epic centre and had no way of knowing how far the magic disaster reached.
That "Sylphie" slip up is pretty telling. Even if he assumed that Zenith is with them, that's not exactly what a proper human being should do.
thats objectively false, lets say you have a wife/husband and you find out that a tsunami swept across your island nation, most people's first reaction would be to ask how their wife/husband is. before they would think about how their mother or father was
I think that’s really unfair.
Rudeus doesn't even have to think, the calculus would be automatic:
1. Norn's right there, so why wouldn't Zenith be? Or Lilia and Aisha, for that matter.
2. Zenith was an S-class adventurer, so she's capable of surviving in adverse conditions or finding allies to help her survive even if she wasn't there.
3. Sylphy is a vulnerable 11yo girl with no combat or survival experience
4. Sylphy carries a physical abnormality that quickly leads to others discriminating her
After reading the light novel, rudeus licking the panties wasn't there. I have no idea why they added it to the anime.
👀
Science isn't about "why?", it's about "why not!"
I almost cried when I watched the next episode. I think you are gonna like it.
6:58 Was ready to hear Judge Teddy`s verdict for the defendant(Rudeus Greyrat) but i guess he`s going off the hook cause of the sad family reunion!
Rudeus always made sure Eris eat all her meals even if it meant he would eat less, it was easy for him but it wasnt a walk in the park li Paul thinks it was.
remember even though ghislaine was close by, she didnt teleport with them. the reason people get teleported together is because they are touching each other during it
Man-god was didn't tell it....Damn it..OROCHIMARU😤
YES YES YWS MORE MUSHOKH TENSEI
Only peaple toching each other during the mana event were teleported with each other.
I think we can all relate the thinking like everything is fine and everything gonna be fine so it makes sense why rudy didn't thought about mana diaster being that wide and since they were in middle of it too.
our mentality is determined by the age of the brain not our memories he has the memories of a 40 something man but he has the brain of a 12 year old
You will respect him, believe me
Rudy does slowly become less of a scumbag. He even becomes a decent human being 🤣 . It takes a long time to overcome a lifetime of bad habits.
some of which he never gives up, though. But they're not going to outweight his growth.
So what do you think about the episode explain and plot and ending
There is a back story why he doesnt want to teach eris to cook
It's Pauls fault. Rudy was FORBIDDEN from making any contact, plus he thought the disaster was limited to Roa. Paul has no right.
What a depressing episode, honestly... I love it lol
On the rudeus/paul argument there s only one question to ask ... who's the adult here ??? Should be Paul but i guess it was neither of them
"Girl, learn to cook for yourself"
Ackshually, Eris was enthusiastic about the idea of eating raw monster meat, maybe because of Ghyslaine, Rudeus was the one who had to make sure it was properly cooked
I never really got into Paul's side, because he gets funding from Zenith's family (they are nobility from this country), so him getting wasted was all of his choosing, Rudeus at the very least was too busy to deal with other rescues on top of surviving
Eris was excited about killing goblins, because she had heard thats how every newbie adventurer begins, but goblins are too weak to survive on the demon continent, so she has never fought them
Thats the reason there were no teleported people travelling back in the demon continent, because almost everyone who landed there died on the first day
Its like, Paul is in a richer and safer area, getting funding and he still dares to point fingers?
I get he is frustrated and wants to feel good by blaming someone else, but thats it
Edit: the OVA for Eris' adventure during that day is on the works, the trailer is here
ua-cam.com/video/hRRLKk0YRF4/v-deo.html
I´m pretty sure that zenith family denied the funding to poul
@@MajestykStorm Nah, They gave it when he brought up Zenith being missing. They started out denying until he mentioned that.
🔥
nice video
But like everyone, it is a good character if they are trying to do a redemption story, which I don't think it is the case, but some redemption maybe... who knows...
uu need to watchh goblin slaverr its very happy animee ;)
Hi :)
Considering how Rudeus is really 40, Paul is completely right
Why do you think Rudeus should know that anyone else but him Eris, Ghislain and maybe people from Roa got involved in the mana disaster?
@@teddymecheto Your fine it takes kinda some background knowledge on the world and ,it’s not fully explained in Anime.
Lol this is where people get the wrong idea about character development and Rudeus. You can't just change his personailty over night or just a few episode, it have to be over dramatic events. He cant just be perverted and walaa I'm a new leaf and not a pervert anymore. It took times and something happen in order for him to change
It's kinda been a long time already tho. like it's been years 👩🏼🦯
Sorry but i looooooove Rudeus special being a filthy Perv he is a nasty one but with a big heart and ready to do the right thing and in all Cartoon Saga he slowly redeem himself can't wait for Season 3 ! Special soon to be a married man......
yeah both of them are right, but i think paul is going too far with rudy
Rudy doesn't understand the real situation in Fitoa, even if Rudy thinks the disaster has reached his village he must think Paul and his wife are adventurers,
Paul's mind is Rudy is a genius kid and he expects more from Rudy in fact "Rudy is still 10 years old, took Eris's life" and he was thrown into a place where it is the most dangerous continent let alone think about anything else he himself will be alive tomorrow or not
I know where his mother is
but I don't want spoilers here
In the novel is more sad
