Important note: 1) The two girls aren’t really touched on in the anime version, but there are reasons one dresses like a tramp and her sister is completely covered by her robes. It’s kind of a big thing. 2) Rudy is gross here on purpose, to throw them off. When the lady attacks, he actually uses cold spells to try to make her back down and cover up. 3) Paul is using North God style in this fight in the warehouse, but the sequence in the anime is much shorter than the novel. 4) Rudeus really messes Paul up in the bar. It’s made clear from Paul’s POV that Rudeus is much more powerful than Paul at this point. Paul and his crew were fighting to kill. Rudeus was going easy on them.
So things to note. Rudy was at Zant port. But he went straight to get Ruijerd from the smugglers and than got kidnapped by beast men so he had no chance to see Pauls message at the guild there. The adventurer's guild on the demon continent doesn't receive a lot if any messages from other continents as I doubt anyone wants to run messages there unless they have to. I think EP17 will go into more detail and clear up why Paul is so angry. Both Ep17 and 18 hit the feels so hard. I personally do feel that Rudy should have probably thought of his family while on the journey. I know he had rough time and a lot on his plate so I don't blame him for not thinking of them as sometimes things slip your mind when in a dangerous situation like he was. I will admit that it definitely didn't help that he thought of Sylphy first before his own mother and that he told his story of the past year and a half in such a way so that he wouldn't worry Paul. The way he told Paul everything makes Paul think he had an easier time than he actually did.
They don't talk abaut it in the anime, but it is explained in the light novel why he didn't think about his family. When they got caught by the mana desaster, the man-god told to rudeos that the ones in the area was teleported, the man-god didn't give him any information about the extension of the mana desaster. Rudeus hometown is far from Roa, and he just assume his family were totaly fine. In his conception the mana desaster just caught the one in the field at the moment it exploded. Later on, during a reflection he concluded that he didn't think about it cause deep down he want to belive that everyone were fine and safe. Btw, fun fact, Geese/Gisu is annoyed at Eris asking to learn to cook because Zenith bugged him to teach her. After he taught Zenith, her and Paul got closer and left, so, it left a bad feeling for Geese. Geese thought of that while Eris was asking, in the novel.
I remember when this episode was airing and everyone was so invested they were taking sides and expressing their views. It was so cool ngl. Gives you insight into how well thought out this argument is. Two of the most flawed characters in this show in conflict. Brilliant.
I was going to say some things about Paul, but I'm going to put those off until next episode, mainly to give them context. I would however like to point out how far Ruijerd has come as a character. That is to say, Ruijerd saw a depressed child (Rudeus) and didn't immediately slaughter the entire town in vengeance.
22:20 Basically, this whole argument between Paul and Rudy was a misunderstanding. Paul cut him off just as he was getting to the part where they arrived at Wind Port, which was before Zant Port, and that’s where Paul left his message. Rudy didn’t see the message, because he went to retrieve Ruijerd and got captured by the beast people, and that’s why Paul was angry Rudy was “goofing off”. Because he didn’t hear why Rudy didn’t see the message since he cut him off before that part.
Yea, Paul is mainly disappointed because he really really respects his son. He sees Rudy as an incredibly powerful mage (who honestly could be king or emperor level right now if he had someone qualified to train him) who is a super genius. Old Rudeus was actually pretty smart he just never went to school and to Paul the young Rudeus must have seemed to be a prodigy. He taught himself how to read and do intermediate level magic at age 3-4. He also taught himself mathematics (any modern person's understanding of math and calculations could make them a mathematician in that medieval setting) Paul hasn't managed to find anyone and he took comfort in thinking that super-genius Rudy was out there and might have already found them. It's understandable that Rudy didn't look for anyone else after all, he was directly beneath the mana cataclysm when it went off, who would have ever thought it would have extended the hundreds of miles to Rudy's village. The teleportations hit everyone in Roa (Eris' city) and all the surrounding villages, sending them to random locations. Some appeared relatively close, some appeared in the ocean and died, and some just appeared with no money or weapons. That let them be picked up as slaves or taken as slaves when they couldn't pay for food (debt slavery) - this group of Paul's is kidnapping them to try to free them.
@@geraldgrenier8132 also if Rudy was not drooling over all the other Roxy looking people in Roxy's home town he would have known others was hit by this as well, because Roxy's father said that there was a lot of falling people/star that day of the incident. If you rewatch some older episodes like episode 3 and pay extra attention to the conversations between Paul and Rudy its clear how Paul never really saw Rudy as a kid. Their conversations were pretty mature and Rudy always came off pretty grown up and was a very smooth talker who always won every discussion. Paul saw him as some kind of super prodigy that would always know what to do. So when he found out that he wasnt even reading his message on the adventure board and wasnt even thinking of his mother and family and seemed to have a fun little adventure (just compare his complexion to Pauls), he was just heavily disappointed. The problem with Rudy is that he is japanese and japanese people always tend to downplay themselves making it seem like they didnt do much and always come off very humble. Rudy phrasing it in such a way sounded very bad to Pauls ears. Paul formed this group and saved a ton of people. So he is basically a hero in that town.

“F*ck Paul.” It’s funny, had we been following Paul instead of Rudeus, I know you’d be saying “F*ck Rudy” right now. It is frustrating but it really is just a communication breakdown. Rudy told a happy story of adventure where he had little care. Of course Rudy told it that way to make his father not worry. But we saw Paul’s face, he is devastated and not doing well. Of course Paul heard Rudy talk about being careless and interpreted as goofing off. Rudy seems to not care that his family is missing and possibly dead so Paul lashed out. Then Rudy attacked back because that’s what Rudy does any time he’s attacked, he walls up and attacks back. Rudy was bullying his dad, sitting on top of him punching the heck out of him. Norn did seem a random kid try to hurt her father. Either side could have broken the cycle, but they kept one upping each other. They were too hurt to stop, and it was frustrating to watch. And the miscommunication makes sense. Rudy and Eris were right at ground zero of the mana disaster and didn’t know how far it spread. It never occurred to him to look for people because he didn’t know they were missing. He couldn’t write because he was not in human territory. In fact, he was just writing his dad at the first time possible when he saw what he thought was kidnapping. He did travel through Zant port, so how did he miss his dad’s message that Fittoa was gone and everyone one is missing and Rudy should focus on finding them? Because he was smuggle through the port and never got to go into town, instead being imprisoned in the forest and then stuck there through the rainy season, so he never went to the adventure’s guild. Why did he seem to care more about Syphie than his mom? Because again he didn’t know she was missing. Why would he worry about someone who is safe. It’s the same mistake he made when he used it to mean his dad was unfaithful as a way to attack him. On top of it all, while Rudy has always acted like a child, he’s always spoke like an adult and wielded magic like an adult, and Paul has always had trouble seeing him as just a kid. I cannot fault either side, and I’m just sad that it happened. But, next episode it one of my favorites. And yeah, I’ve ranted like this to other reactions of this episode. It’s just a frustrating situation and we’ve all been worked up by it, which is a testament to how good the writing is. Sorry that I droned on so long.
28:40 No, it’s more that he’s angry because he thought Rudeus, being the genius child that he is, would’ve figured out what happened and looked for their family members. He expects too much of Rudy because he knows how amazing Rudy is.
I have heard a lot of people discuss the Paul/Rudy assumptions, and lot of very good points are made.. but one thing that I haven't heard anyone really address is this. Rudy has no reason to know that anyone else was affected. He was out in a field to cast some high level magic, and the mana swelled.. and Arumanfi the Bright showed up acting like it was Rudeus' fault. Now, it's never explicitely stated, but I would assume that after that fight between Arumanfi and Ghislaine, anyone would be perfectly fine in assuming that the teleport is a localized thing. Rudeus and co were basically at Ground Zero.. Yes, the Man God called it a mana calamity, but never stated that it affected a large region.. As for the Sylphie vs Zenith argument. Sylphie is Rudy's friend, and was around 10 years old at the time. Zenith was an S-class Adventurer.. Sorry, the logical assumption here is that Paul and Zenith, if anyone, would have been able to handle themselves, but Sylphie on the other hand.. Not so much. Now, Paul doesn't know any about Arumanfi (and I am not sure if Rudy even remembered to tell that part), or anything else except what Rudy has told him. So, have they both made some assumptions? Sure.. but overall, I am on Rudy's side here. Why would you be concerned about S-Rank adventurers (Paul and Zenith) when you don't even know that they were caught up in this whole thing.. and if they were, well, they would be much more capable of handling it...
Rudy had friends in past life, but he drive them away when he became a shut in. He alread mentioned have a femail friends when he meet Silyphie and commented he heared she had gotten married
I thought you were taking your time before going through the second half of the season when i didnt see you in the recommendations. In the en i should check the channel instead of assuming. The main issue why paul is so harsh on rudy is because he has an inferiority complex and knowing that his son achieved so much more than him at his 6 years (being a saint level water magic + also being incredibly smart and mature even more than him ) makes his expectations of Rudeus incredibly high. Despite Paul not being in the right he is extremely tired, worried and his hopes of finding the others so when he hears the way Rudeus phrases the storie he believes he never had any issue in his travel. It doesnt means it justifies his attitude but helps to understand his point of view after all he was under constant pressure these 2 years. Side note: There is something the anime omitted and is the motive of why the female warrior is barely wearing anything is due to her and her sister the mage got graped after the mana disaster the warrior recovered but her sister still carries a trauma so she cant withstand males watching her directly so her sister is almost naked so the focus is on her.
Thank you for this context! That is really shocking and sad to hear about the warrior's sister. We love that the show deals with the complexity of humanity in such a fantasy setting.
8:02 *very* interesting thought indeed :) 9:25 ye, dont think they were going for the washington monument here, its just a regular obelisk lol but who knows
Paul and Rudy where both in the wrong u see Paul had hopes Rudy would know what to do Bc Paul knows Rudy isn’t ur average kid Rudy was a saint of class mage by 5 years old and was able to out smart his parents no other kid was capable of doing something like thats why Paul had Rudy on a pedestal thinking his son would know exactly what to do……………. And as for Rudy he explains everything he went through but says it in a way where it sounds like he was just having fun and goofing around also Paul is one of my favorites characters he isn’t perfect but later on u will see why
We find if we change the pitch, we can keep more of the show in. We're trying to find a balance between copyright limitations and sharing as much of the show as possible. Thoughts?
@@AnimeDateNight understandable I think copyright algorithms only picked up montage music intro/ending. So maybe if u not including intro/ending it would be fine. Or muted some part
Don't risk it, the pitch changer doesn't subtract anything, we've all seen this show, so keep it. Better to play it safe because if you get on their radar with a claim they can come after you and start manually claiming even if you trim everything out. I've never understood why Japanese anime studios don't understand why having reactors actually raises interest in their properties. The number of people I've seen in the comments section of reactions who got interested in the lore and actually bought the novels is absolutely huge. Western companies know that engagement is important, when was the last time you saw Game of Thrones or Last of Us strike someone?
@@AnimeDateNight I say the best way to do it is just have the subtitles showing and a timer and others can just watch along with you. Don't even need the shows audio.
Those two women are sisters. The one wears skimpy armor because her sister is afraid of men, so she draws men’s attention away from her sister to herself for her sake. And the one that’s afraid of men is afraid of men because both of them became slaves after the mana disaster. And you can imagine what could’ve happened to her as a slave to make her afraid of men. This is not explained in the anime, but it is explained in the novels.
and zenith was her mother hahahahahah imagine your kid chosing you over his /her friend hahahahaha when the situation could be something from lost to enslaved or dead that just show how much hecared for zenith
One thing that bothers me is the ride or die attitude. Rudy ask about Sylphie over 1. Zenith, 2. Lilia, 3. Aisha. Also was planning on "grooming" Sylphie to be his wife. I find it hard to believe someone as smart of Rudeus wouldn't have 1-second of thought over 1.5 years when they constantly talk about hoping Ghislaine is okay. I think Paul was definitely in the wrong, but Rudy is no saint in the matter.
Those unpleasant plots(lick panties) in the first half of this episode did not exist in the original novel. On staff-related topics, this episode's director (who was in charge of the episode's script) has been frowned upon in the anime fan community, and he's known for his penchant for adding disgusting plots.
@@ToxTalk Yeah I just realized that too. You should have specified it in the orginal comment because that was the only new addition that was unnecessary
I'm confused as to what you mean by "unpleasant plots in the first half of this episode." Are you referring to the Superd massacres, Eris wanting to learn to cook for Rudeus, Rudeus wearing panties on his head, Rudeus staring at flapping boobies, Rudeus insinuating that his dad was porking the party, or am I missing something? As far as I remember reading in LN and manga, this episode was dead on, with some minor characters' backstories getting trimmed. I guess I'm saying that I don't specifically know what you are talking about. Like, I have no context clues whatsoever.
The Paul hate is disgusting y'all didn't even try to look at from his perspective the first thing Paul thought of was is Rudy ok is my family ok Rudy didn't think about any of that just getting Eris home Rudy has said multiple times that he thinks of this place as a game and dosnet take it serious the reason he didn't think about his family is bc he thought since he was close to the mana disaster the event was apart of the game and it didn't affect anyone else Rudy is not a normal kid he has the power of a god he's stronger then 99 percernt of the world why would it be bad for Paul to think that Rudy would at least be smart enough to look for his family.
Important note:

It's just my opinion, in the end it'll be your own choice which order you want to watch it in, and either way it will be fine.
Saludos!
Never apologize for loving a show and its source material!! That's why we're here!
28:40 No, it’s more that he’s angry because he thought Rudeus, being the genius child that he is, would’ve figured out what happened and looked for their family members. He expects too much of Rudy because he knows how amazing Rudy is.
nice reaction :D
the Goblin slayer OVA takes place at the same time as this episode
8:02 *very* interesting thought indeed :)
9:25 ye, dont think they were going for the washington monument here, its just a regular obelisk lol but who knows
And as for Rudy he explains everything he went through but says it in a way where it sounds like he was just having fun and goofing around also
Paul is one of my favorites characters he isn’t perfect but later on u will see why
I love that this show explores that level of nuance in communication! We cant wait to learn more about Paul and Zenith!
Finally you reach episode 16
A bit surprised with pitch changer 😅
We find if we change the pitch, we can keep more of the show in.
We're trying to find a balance between copyright limitations and sharing as much of the show as possible.
Thoughts?
@@AnimeDateNight understandable
I think copyright algorithms only picked up montage music intro/ending.
@@AnimeDateNight I personally like the higher pitch way more than the lower pitch 😁
7:30 His nails aren’t painted. They’re naturally that color.
8:05 nice ass pulling information
Those two women are sisters. The one wears skimpy armor because her sister is afraid of men, so she draws men’s attention away from her sister to herself for her sake. And the one that’s afraid of men is afraid of men because both of them became slaves after the mana disaster. And you can imagine what could’ve happened to her as a slave to make her afraid of men. This is not explained in the anime, but it is explained in the novels.
OVA is next.
and zenith was her mother hahahahahah
imagine your kid chosing you over his /her friend hahahahaha
when the situation could be something from lost to enslaved or dead
that just show how much hecared for zenith
7:45 🤐
yall are good
She really doesn’t. You’ll feel bad when you finally learn why Elinalise does it.
But for now she looks to be enjoying it
But she enjoyed it anyway. Learn to live with the pain. Mushoku Tensei surprisingly have a lot of strong women characters in it.
@@needtau4138 i think she also enjoying it
@@InstanRamenso she says…

One thing that bothers me is the ride or die attitude. Rudy ask about Sylphie over 1. Zenith, 2. Lilia, 3. Aisha. Also was planning on "grooming" Sylphie to be his wife.
I find it hard to believe someone as smart of Rudeus wouldn't have 1-second of thought over 1.5 years when they constantly talk about hoping Ghislaine is okay.
I think Paul was definitely in the wrong, but Rudy is no saint in the matter.
well, Sylphie is a child meanwhile Zenith is literally an ex s-rank adventurer...
2:46 Actually….
Those unpleasant plots(lick panties) in the first half of this episode did not exist in the original novel. On staff-related topics, this episode's director (who was in charge of the episode's script) has been frowned upon in the anime fan community, and he's known for his penchant for adding disgusting plots.
I don’t think that’s true. I just reread the Light Novel for this specific part and the anime is pretty loyal to the source material
@@HuyPham-we4dj Rudy didn't lick panties in the original novel😀
@@HuyPham-we4dj I am sorry that my English level does not allow me to put things in detail🙃
Can't wait next eps oh yeah for my opinion please react the OVA first before watch eps 18
We're conflicted. I think we are going to watch and react to the ova after S1. Is it really impactful after e18?
@@AnimeDateNight nah its just because OVA connected with eps 16 and 17
The Paul hate is disgusting y'all didn't even try to look at from his perspective the first thing Paul thought of was is Rudy ok is my family ok Rudy didn't think about any of that just getting Eris home Rudy has said multiple times that he thinks of this place as a game and dosnet take it serious the reason he didn't think about his family is bc he thought since he was close to the mana disaster the event was apart of the game and it didn't affect anyone else Rudy is not a normal kid he has the power of a god he's stronger then 99 percernt of the world why would it be bad for Paul to think that Rudy would at least be smart enough to look for his family.
