Yeah this is it... not even a joke. Its what we all strive for both sexes. A beautiful death. Or a love so pure and beautiful its the only one ever. This movie is something new every time you watch it every 7 to 10 yrs. If this was real like a God....... they would of been happy in the after light. But my beliefs they came back n found each other again as was owed.
For a sequence that has such little dialog, there is so much conveyed, particularly when it comes to the story of Alice & Uncas. Him running ahead to save her on his own (knowing that he's outnumbered) is awe-inspiring, but so sad. And the way he looks at her...you can tell there's so many feelings going on. Anger at her captors, determination to keep fighting until his last breath, sadness when he realizes how wounded he is and through it all, love. As for Alice, you can tell how much she's grown from the girl at the start of the film. While she has fear, its not so much for herself as for Uncas and once he's killed there's a deep sadness which, upon realizing that she can rob Magua of his revenge against her, turns to determination. In a way she pulls the rug out from Magua because he clearly did not anticipate her actions. He doesn't attempt to have his warriors stop her from moving towards the cliff edge and it's only after she looks over the edge the first time & then stares at him that he starts to see what she is thinking. His action of lowering the knife to try to seem less threatening is canceled out by her seeing Uncas's blood on his other hand as he reaches for her and in that minute, I think she knows that he's somewhat disarmed & its within her power to deny him what he wants which is to make her suffer at his hands. It's truly the most powerful scene for Alice & Uncas & it's really a shame that there was not more interaction between them in the movie.
Just to add, I love the way she turns her head to the left when looking over the cliff and you can see the braid Uncas put in her hair, a reminder to the viewer. Fantastic piece of direction/acting
Just at that stare at Magua by Alice time stops . That one second tells : You have no power over me , and i made a choice already. That look should get an Oscar ,if there is an Oscar for a moment ,when time stops.
5:11 The calm with which Alice looks towards the cliff is not the emptiness she looks at, but where Uncas fell, to go with him. She looks at Magua because he is the one in front of her, but it is a way of saying goodbye to the world, her destiny is already decided. It is because of that silent love that a life of war was worthwhile, without it, being a slave to a murderer is not an option for her.
Alice's stare at Magua is very powerful as I think it's like a mirror revealing to himself the monster he has become. You can tell her stare puts him in his place and takes his power away from him. Her decision to jump is very empowering in a way. I love how you can just hear the thunder rumbling in an almost calming way at the same time, remembering us and maybe Alice of all powerful nature, much more powerful than these hateful and violent puny humans.
I still a forever love this scene. Alice is fearful & speaks very little throughout the entire movie, until she chooses death. Then all fear is gone. Her look says it all with silence. Bravo
Nathaniel - "I said to take me... Take me!" Duncan - "My compliments sir. Take her and get out!" He loved her unconditionally, even though she didn't want him. He also he knew her best chance of survival was with Nathaniel because they would be trying to save Alice. Honestly, Cora didn't deserve that sacrifice from Duncan though.
@@Darksky1001able Hawkeye - Slays 4 Huron, holds another 4 at gunpoint with an empty gun, saves the life of Cora, puts Duncan out of his misery. Chingachgook - Smokes 3 Huron, destroys Magua in single combat, pretty much reads the minds of Hawkeye and Uncas. Uncas - Goes on a one man vangeance mission against 17 Huron to try and save Alice, smokes 5 Huron, more than anyone else in the scene unless you include Hawkeye killing Duncan Duncan - Sacrifices himself in flames for the lives of his daughters. Magua - Constantly wanting revenge for what happened earlier in his life, smokes probably the strongest warrior in the film (Uncas) in single combat. Alice - Gives Magua the ultimate 'f u' by taking the cliff rather than staying with Magua after her love is slain. Cora - Screams. Screams again. Then screams again.
There is so much going on here: Duncan's act of chivallery reveals him as a highly complex person who loves Cora to the point of self-destruction. Who would have expected that his arrogant demeanour concealed a human being with principles and true compassion? Saving Cora's life is one thing. But his decision to sacrifice himself for Long Rifle, so that Cora may live out her days with the man she loves, really blows my mind... Then there is Alice's jump to the death: To me, is all about self-empowerment. There is no way for her to know that her friends still could save her. And even if Magua decided to let her live and take her as a wife (as was ordained by the Huron chief), we can all imagine that he would make the remainder of her days hell - in contrast to Uncas, who was the man of her dreams. This is the very reason why she decides to walk the same path as Uncas, rather than to live another second at the mercy of that lowlife Magua. Ironically, by killing herself, Alice claims ownership of her own destiny and transforms from a passive girl into a self determined woman - even though her adulthood only lasts seconds. Her ice cold glance at Magua seems to express her total dismissal of him including the last remnants of humanity that trancended through his pathetic gesture.
This movie made me fall completely in love with Jodhi May. I am still astonished by her youthful beauty and innocent eyes. Bawled my eyes out the first time I watched this movie.
Gun stock war club... beautiful weapon 😍 nothing has been or ever will be made in the gun powder age as a melee as mean, vicious, elegant or precise. I'm a huge fan of War and history and recreated battles n proper time combats recreation. This weapon was it.
Chingachgook never says a word. He just knows what is happening and accepts it. He knows Hawkeye will want to put Duncan out of his misery as he passes him the long rifle. He knows Uncas is strong, but dosnt stand a chance one of him vs 17 Huron - however he also knows there is NO way he can stop him - when he put his arm on his fathers shoulder, it was his way of saying goodbye. And when it comes to the final battle, since Uncas killed 5 there is still 12 Huron left, he dosnt expect to live but all he want is a chance at Magua. Hawkeye shows how to REALLY put a star in a supporting role when someone else needs to shine, slaying 4 Huron and holding another 4 at gunpoint (with an empty gun mind you), but he know this is all about Chingachgook - who kills the other 3 leaving only Magua, who he then lets know 'always fear the old man in a profession almost everyone dies young' Cora is completely clueless the whole time..... But what makes this scene so amazing, there is no need for ANY dialogue.... Just *THAT* tune.........
