there's a bit more story about that. After all of this buff, some C-Roa players try to downplay him by saying that since C-Roa doesn't have any high/low mixup, he's actually a very honest character. And thus he earned the title "Honest Mids Michael".
Honestly this fits Roa so well because he’s either a serious villain or absolutely fucking bodied and a joke depending on what branch/other material he’s in
in which place he is bodied and a joke? he is always very terrifying character in tsukihime in every route. SHIKI is probably bodied in hisui route but that's because of SHIKI's own guilt, he still is defeated in other route pretty easily by akiha but SHIKI isn't roa. anyway, many people didn't know that roa is literally one of the strongest character in nasuverse because of his vast knowledge about nearly everything in world. through his powerful magecraft and knowledge, he even able to defeat altrouge and in some way come close to defeat even arcuied in his og body. the joke in melty blood is about roa reincarnation which blur the line between him being dead or alive.
Dantes didn’t have the Treasure of Monte Christo actually active until the last parts of that fight tbf. Dude had to pull some shit in order for him to get to that point. Even when he’s vastly weakened compared to his Tsukihime self, Roa’s no slouch for most people and Dantes couldn’t just activate the Treasure of Monte Christo all wily nily until he became a Heroic Spirit (that whole thing at the end with the treasure’s power was a one-time deal after all)
@@Redhead-pf8le that is not tsukihime roa but still he isn't bodied. he literally destroyed edmond dantes first. Dante is able to defeat tarantella (fate roa) with the help of Monte Cristo Mythologie in the first place. It's pretty easy to come to a conclusion like that when Roa was so terrible. Given his old air orbs were also unblockable, and MBAACC was veering more towards into oki and setplay-like strategies compared to older versions of MB, it would make sense to let him charge an orb to hit crouchers and control the air. He was borderline unplayable in prior versions and needed a big buff any way. The issue arises from how fast he can place charged orbs for the sheer advantage they give him. If he could rapidly set small orbs but not charge orbs it'd be different, but having both big charge orbs that can be set really fast was where it got to be extreme.
@@axlnymous9582 Fighting games are hard to balance, and I can see why one might think Roa would never become OP, however they buffed him... but this also seems like a pretty clear-cut case of a move with no weaknesses by design being predictably broken. U rly should make more videos on more MBAACC characters documenting how they’ve risen or fallen! The one character that comes to mind for me as one that went the opposite direction C-Roa did is H-Tohno, r u interested in making a video on him?
Shiki Tohno IS the main protagonist of Tsukihime and he's been around since the start, so I could go around and do a total overview of how Shiki was throughout all the games (including his moons) and that'd also give me an opportunity to talk more about what I could find out about the older ones. Just as a sidenote, MB1/ReACT is barely documented at all and I definitely didn't play it back then, so I won't be able to cover a section like that with any accuracy. I guess it'd just be a stool for showing off his moveset before getting into the other games.
@@axlnymous9582 I think that would be the smartest way to go about it, nobody covers the history of MB characters anyway so any info presented in a style such as yours would be really cool. I've always been super curious as to how Shiki worked in games prior to TL, especially since he's seemed to be fondly looked upon as an MC moveset.
Big yellow has sent me here and gotta say this video is amazing, great work dude! I never had contact with Current Code so I didn't know he was so honest, but the music swap at the air orbs segment told me what sorta game he was playing.
It's basically the opposite of what happened to SF3 Sean from 2I to 3S. Sean got nerfed from the absolute best character in the game to the absolute worst, on purpose. And Roa got buffed from the absolute worst to the absolute best, presumably on accident.
Fighting games are hard to balance but definitely they made some mistakes here that could have been relatively obvious in play-testing. A fullscreen projectile that’s +26 is going to be a problem unless there are some major strings attached. Also, I think the way they tried to counterbalance the huge buffs with nerfs to the base orbs is funny. They nerfed one of the weakest tools in the game (at least one of the weakest that is supposed to be the main draw of the character) in a bunch of drastic ways and expected that to counterbalance the new crazy tools they gave him. I think maybe that’s what caused him to slip through play-testing. They probably used a mix of charged and uncharged orbs when playing him because that’s how they expected people to use the character, but never considered players would just ignore the extremely weak uncharged orbs and only use the charged ones. Nothing forces you to use both, the charged ones are hardly slower to come out and the uncharged ones are now absolutely terrible. Basically what they actually did is give his regular orbs a tiny amount of required charge time in exchange for all the buffs and if they had realized that is what they were doing, I think he would have come out differently. That being said, you can’t account for everything players will discover, there are plenty of very understandable cases where players figured out a playstyle or some glitches/hidden mechanics/techniques that break a character. sf4 Elena comes to mind, smash bros Steve, sf5 season 3 Abigail etc.
Keep in mind it's not just a fullscreen projectile that's +26, it's a fullscreen AIR UNBLOCKABLE projectile that's +26 (and easily combos on hit). Melty is a game all about aerial movement, so people are constantly jumping around. Likewise, there are few true grounded anti-airs in the game, and even that select few can hardly be called reliable at their job. So even within the context of Melty, the orb buff is ridiculous.
Maybe. I've thought about making another one, but it'd most likely be either Shiki Tohno or Sion (& VSion) since those two have a hilarious history as well.
Actually only started playing Melty Blood Actress Again after Current Code came out, so I had NO idea C-Roa was so trash in AA. They buffed the absolute shit out of him lol. Very informative video. Great job!
People talk about characters who were busted when they came out but then got nerfed to the dumpster. This guy is the exact opposite. The problem with his intended design was that his space control was ungodly broken against everyone whose game plan was to rush down and get into the air. I am curious to see the Roa in Type Lumina get some of the nerfs and buffs from both versions in AA and AACC. Creating stationary orbs seems to have separated his style from the rest of the cast.
