Easy Beginner Knitted Dishcloth

This is a perfect easy beginner knit pattern. This simple dishcloth is knitted with just the knit stitch, purl stitch and slip stitch. It knits up super fast and they make great gifts. It uses the Linen Rib Stitch which makes for a beautiful dishcloth. Full step by step instructions are included in this video as well as demonstration on how to do this stitch in both continental and english style knitting.

Hi there Jackie, the dishcloths look beautiful and I would also like to try this pattern. Do you have suggestions for absorbable cotton yarns? I have used a cotton yarn in the past (lion brand’s 24/7 cotton yarn) but it did not seem to absorb water well (at least when I was blocking the piece). Maybe they need a few washes in the washer to make them more absorbing.

Hello. I just make sure I use 100% cotton yarn. I agree that maybe washing them a few times may help in absorbing water. I’ve noticed with mine that they seem better after a few uses.

Help! I’m not sure what happened but I’m hoping this is a common mistake and you can help me with this pattern!
I’ve made it 2 repeats of rows 1-4 and now it seems my right side and wrong side have switched?! The “right” pattern is on the backside now. How do I fix this? 🙈

A couple things to check. Make sure you are purling all your stitches on the wrong side. And second when you are knitting the right side with the knit stitches and the slip stitches be sure when you are slipping your stitches that your yarn is in the FRONT not the back. This is what creates the little horizontal line in the stitch pattern. Hope that helps.
