WTF Happened to JIM CAVIEZEL?

  • Jim Caviezel was a rising star when he was cast in the role of a lifetime. Having starred, to reasonable acclaim, in the swashbuckling epic The Count of Monte Cristo, the devoutly Christian Caviezel was tapped by director Mel Gibson to play Jesus Christ in his controversial tale of the crucifixion, The Passion of the Christ. Wildly controversial, with it ranking as one of the bloodiest films ever made, it was a huge worldwide smash hit, grossing over $600 million worldwide on a $30 million budget. But, in the years since, Caviezel struggled to escape typecasting, with him eventually landing the lead of the long-running Person of Interest for CBS.
In recent years, Caviezel has been making headlines for all of the wrong reasons, such as his belief in the Qanon conspiracy theory adrenochrome, which posits that “Hollywood elites” and Democrats are harvesting the blood of children. YIKES. It’s a bad look for a guy who was once one of the most promising rising stars in Hollywood, and in this episode, we look at his rise, with standout roles in early movies like Frequency, to where he is today. Join us as we take a look at WTF Happened to Jim Caviezel?

I met Jim at NRB in 2018. He sat across from me in a pizza restaurant cuz there were no more seats and we had some small talk because I didn’t recognize him. I’ve only ever seen his passion of the Christ film up to that point. But he introduced himself and was very kind. You should’ve seen my face when he told me he played Jesus and I finally realized who I was sitting with.

Oh wow! I would have been trying hard not to stare too much - and failing.
I saw a brief interview with him and some other cast members, and he did a very funny impression of Christopher Walken - he gets the actual sound of Walken's voice (not just the exaggerated odd rhythm and intonation, and accent) better than Jay Mohr.
I'm sure Caviezel would be good in some comedy, like Walken.

Duuude, you haven't watched Person of Interest? You've missed on a great show, and calling it crime drama is selling it so, so short. PoI used procedural frame to build multiple narrations on topics of surveillance, ethics, technological progress and artificial intelligence. He has so much as said that his pinnacle was The Passion . His new endeavor Sound of Freedom , strikes very hard at the child trafficking problem . He feels very strongly about this problem amd doesnt care if he gets black balled . He really doesnt feel that his faith is keeping him back at all . He truly is someone who is very much in control of his mind body and soul . Far from crazy . I liked this actor back in the day. Was a big fan of the the show ‘Person of Interest’. Never saw ‘Passion of the Christ’. Loved ‘Frequency’ and ‘The Count of Monte Christo’. And was entertained by ‘The Thin Red Line’ though that cast was one of the best with a great director.
Disappointed by some of these revelations though. I don’t really care about artists religious or political leanings but I hate when there is so much bleed over into their work that I am forced to acknowledge it. I kind of resent it because it makes it almost impossible to enjoy their work. It’s one of the reasons I go out of my way to avoid stories about their personal lives. Mostly it’s because I don’t care. People have lives and opinions even famous people. As long as what they do or believe isn’t too extreme then I going to just judge them by their work.

Really hoping for a strong upsurge of "Post-Hollywood" films, being that Hollywood's kind of eating itself. Between Gibson, Caviezel, and now Wahlberg there are people putting their money toward movies they believe in. Even movies like Dragged Across Concrete have the feel of a single person's taste and need for expression. I hope to see more.

(partly unpopular opinion) In a time when people are ever ready to criticize and shoot people down on social media, your WTF series is always refreshing and adds much needed humanity to a situation where people are unfairly put on pedestals by the public and then brought down by the same public (in most cases). Very few of these actors asked to be on a pedestal. Treat them like humans, not gods and you won't have to have your "heroes" fall from grace. They'll be quite simply, just human. In the words of Irrfan Khan, “It pains me when a film actor or a cricketer is a youth icon. I don’t have anything against them. They are great entertainers; they are useful to society. They contribute to people’s lives. But they are not heroes.”

I don't think Hollywood gives a hoot about anyone's beliefs, as long as they don't interfere with day-to-day activities. Gotta make that movie on time and on budget guys. It's totally because he accused them of draining kids of their blood and stuff. And honestly, if I was a director in Hollywood, I wouldn't be too eager to work with him either.
On the other hand, as a movie enthusiast, I love Jim as Edmond Dantes (what a great adaptation of the Count of Montecristo), in Frequency (which I watch again and again, usually around Christmas), in Outlander (great great B movie, no down time, fun story and VIKINGS!), and Person of Interest was such a good series! I have never seen Thin Red Line, but I shall correct this shortly. I'll look up his other movies as well. As good an actor as he is, it's his choice where to perform. If christian movies make him happy, so be it. Integrity is a wonderful character trait, so rare these days. I applaud him for his honesty, even if it's sometimes misguided.

He gives 101% in pretty much every movie or show.. a consummate professional. that the movies bombed at box office, i would say some were typical badly advertised, or just a mediocre movie at a time when mammoth Marvel Movies were everywhere.. and anything less would suffer..
Wyatt Earp is a good movie.. just had the unfortunate timing of coming out same time as Tombstone... probably the greatest Western Epic in Modern Filmdom... easily stands up against " Once Upon a Time in the West", "The Searchers", "Dances with Wolves", etc.. its possibly the greatest cast ever, period, in Any western at any time..
so.. not a bomb for being bad.. just.. bad timing.. many other flicks he did, good movies, or great acting..
