- Celebrated graphic novelist Craig Thompson was in London in January 2012 and popped in to the Faber office to discuss Habibi and show off his drawing skills, as well as talk about his classic graphic novels Blankets, Good-Bye Chunky Rice and Carnet de Voyages.
Reading his comics is like being thrown in the middle of a movie. There's a cinematic quality to the way his work flows across the page. I hardly notice I'm looking at individual comic panels.
It's an honor watching the man draw, for pete's sake! I love you, Craig.
For those who asking, I think this tool is a Pentel Pocket Brush. Many can do miracles with this one but Thompson's skills is beyond miracles!
Aaaagh, your hatching skill with the brush pen is phenomenally impressive. So flowing and beautiful.
I was lucky to meet him I travelled to London from Brussels and it was so worth the trip. He is so friendly I am still impressed... Really looking forward to his future books...
I love his art. When I read Blankets in reinvigorated me to start drawing again. Now I'm a professional illustrator and graphic designer. Thank you Craig. You and a handful of other artist shaped my future without even realising it ;).
For a moment I seriously though it had MiniLadd in it 'cause his name is also Craig Thompson.
THX for Blankets! THX fo Habibi! Cheers from Poland!
Am Muslim and that Arabic font is one of the most hardest fonts to learn
such a beautiful graphic novel, the best i've ever read.
Genius ❤
@lavolta Pentel Pocket Brush - and talent.
Great work!
Cool
Craig is a genius and comes across as such a nice guy. Have pity on him and don't ask for a drawing in your book if you are at a signing though. The poor guy tells of absolute agony in his hands due to signings in his wonderful travelogue "Carnet de Voyage"
What kind of brush pen does he use?
Genius
And by the way - wht is this tool you're using? Marker? Some kind of brush? What is it?
I wonder what kind of pen he has there...I've been looking for a pen just like that and I'm way overwhelmed because there are so many and they're all really expensive. Does anybody know?
+CA K Look up the Pentel Pocket Brush Pen. It runs about 20 dollars, but the refills are much cheaper. They're fantastic.
+bclubcali thank you so much. I'll look into that right away
😍😍😍😍
