Acclaimed graphic novelist and two-time Eisner-award winning author of the autobiographical graphic novel Blankets (one of Time Magazine's 100 Best English Language Graphic Novels Ever Written) returns with a parable about our relationship to the natural world, the cultural divide between the first and third worlds, and the common heritage of Christianity and Islam. Sprawling across an epic landscape of deserts, harems, and modern industrial clutter, Habibi tells the tale of Dodola and Zam, refugee child slaves bound to each other by chance, by circumstance, and by the love that grows between them. Habibi follows them as their lives unfold together and apart; as they struggle to make a place for themselves in a world (not unlike our own) fueled by fear, lust, and greed; and as they discover the extraordinary depth-and frailty-of their connection.
Not only is it a "lushly epic love story that's both inspiring and heartbreaking," but Publishers Weekly starred review also affirms that "the gorgeous Arabic ornamental calligraphy makes each page an individual work of art."
Bill Kartalopoulos will join Craig Thompson for a Q&A session during the event. Bill Kartalopoulos teaches classes about comics at Parsons The New School for Design. He also co-organizes the Brooklyn Comics Graphics Festival, is a contributing editor at Print Magazine, reviews comics for Publishers Weekly, and has curated several comics-related exhibits including "Cartoon Polymaths" at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center. He recently assisted Art Spiegelman on the production of MetaMaus, a book and DVD about the making of Maus.

Just finished Habibi. Loved the ending (can’t believe he had 10 alternate ones - glad he picked the one he did)
Also can’t believe how little content there is on Habibi on UA-cam, so glad this talk has been posted online

That was by far, the best book I ever read. First time I ever finished a 700-paged comic book in one day. Booyah!
