To those who think childless women are selfish people, let me remind you that there are many reasons why some people have not had children, reasons which are very personal and no one else’s business. I do not have children, but as a teacher, I spent 30 years of my life educating, nurturing, and inspiring other people’s children, and I know many other childless and selfless teachers who have had an incredibly positive and long-lasting impact in the lives of children. I have 13 nieces and nephews who I love dearly and now 6 grand nieces and nephews. I care deeply about their future and about making our country better for their sake. The view that childless people have no business in leadership is bigoted and ignorant.
