👏🏻👏🏻 Yeah for Vietnamese people! I am Greek and we also don’t change our names when we are married. Glad to see other cultures practise the same.

Personally I’ve always thought it was weird. It’s a personal choice but there is that idea of ownership and the patriarchal stigma of a man owning a woman when it’s attached to religious backgrounds that show gender preference, but people have all kinds of reasons to do what they do. It kind of feels like you’re saying you’re not connected to what you were and even when I was little I thought it was odd. Even then it was like, if you’re going to pick a different name, why not just go with the cooler sounding one? In hindsight that might be a bit shallow but if my wife’s last name was ‘Ultraman’? I mean….

I agree! Go with the cooler name! But knowing my lazy self, I probably won’t do it.

@@drjennale I wish this custom to die. It’s utter sexist. I wish to see woman’s surname and kids having mothers surname become common. It’s easily done man takes her name become one family! I wish to see where both genders does so. I was personally harassed by my parents when I said my kids will have my surname and my last name to the the family name. I was harassed by sexist remarks more so In the worst way possible. A man taking woman’s name is wrong. Kids having mother surname is disgusting. We want to correct you. “Respect that’s it!” A man is the head and woman’s bows down? Is mentally harassed by parents and varies others in involvement. See how the world tries to shut up or threaten when.. I don’t know how to use the right word. My parents try to force their sexist regime me and see how the world tries to shut up someone when and step up against it! The world tries to beat them and knock them down. Shut them up

My mom is changing hers to her new husband's last name. Now I kinda feel like an orphan lol. I'm attached to my culture/background so idk. It's interesting to think about.

A womans last name is part of her identity and the family she came from

You're starting a new family, in a different place(home), kids(if yall want them), and a lot of your family isn't going to be there with you through every step of the way like your partner should be. Marriage is a sign of becoming new and becoming whole with the one you chose to possible create a new cycle with your kids and go on and on, not with your family(though they'll still be in your life).

@@toxicmelody6228 Women must not change their last name to husband name. Don’t follow satan religion or rule. Imagine if all women change to their husbands name from the time of Adam , Jacob , David , Mariam , eve , Sarah , hajar , Moses , ibrahim, Jesus , Maria and prophet Muhammad (peace be upon them all) , how on earth people can tract history of all
Prophets and people back then till now . Bloodline not only from father but also from mother . Without mother bloodline and last name , how on earth we know where Moses came from , Mariam came from , ibrahim came from ??? At least Adam and Eve not from parents. They never born by humans. By Adam and Eve childrens and all generations till us , we tract our history from father n mother’s bloodline name. Nothing in any book from Torah psalm injil and quran god telling women to change their last name to their husbands. That’s why don’t follow satan rules. Use brain people without fathers and mothers name , how history tract people from Adam to us now ??? Women don’t change your last name to husbands. Women super easy to be manipulated by men. Use brains. Remember mothers last name important too cuz without knowing mothers name , how people can tract people after Adam to us. How we know about Moses , ibrahim , Mariam , Jesus , David and Muhammad if mother’s name not recorded????

I like how Japanese people do it. Whomever has more status associated with their last name keeps it and the other person takes their last name. Man or Woman, it doesn't really matter.
