    So once I make the mix of the cleanser can I use that to clean the nail after gel is applied also

      Yes absolutely! It is for before, during (if needed), and after! :) This makes for a great cleanser for the whole service and the amount of acetone used is not significant enough to alter your soak-off gels. It actually helps to strip the inhibition layer off even better.

      Thank you so much for shearing this. Did not know there was acetone in cleanser. Always hear acetone breaks down the gel, and slip solutions with acetone is no good, so i only use alcohol. But now i will make my own cleanser too.

    Again, nail school didn’t teach much about anything “Gel” 12 years ago. It feels like the gel industry has changed so much, that I can’t keep up. Thanks again for all your fundamentals. They really are a life changer for me. Some clients have no problem going 4 weeks, then some, I can’t get to stay on for just two. I’m definitely going to try the cleanser. Can’t wait for the rest.

      I have pretty oily skin/hair/nails and I just can’t get more than about 10-14 days before gels start to lift on my most frequently used fingers. The one I got to last for 14 days was at a salon where the owner just kept moving my had to trigger the light for 3-4 cycles while she finished the other hand, baked it on so hard it didn’t move and I struggled to soak it off!

    I changed my cleanser to alcohol and acetone mix after struggling with lifting of acrylic and gels when I was using Scrub Fresh.... Didn't know about how to test it back then... I guess it would be the blue colour additives that caused the issue. Just found your channel and love it! Xx

    OMG - THIS is what I have been doing wrong. I bought this expensive nail cleanser that I later opened and noticed had a blue tint...didn't think too much of it. However, I didn't attribute that to why my application kept lifting! If I hadn't seen this video, I don't know how long it would have been before figuring out what was actually causing the lift to an otherwise properly prepped nail. Thank you, Liz!

      I would also recommend going down in Alcohol percentage. 99% (especially with acetone) will evaporate faster and won’t last long enough to kill bacteria. It’s also less expensive to use 70-90 instead of 99. If you have a bunch of 99% you can dilute with a bit of distilled water.

    I didn't know know that about gel cleansers, I honestly never read the ingredient list. I could not figure out why my polish or top coat was pulling away from the edge, so thank you very much. I also didn't know you could mix alcohol and acetone, was scared it would make a bad chemical reaction, so thank you for that as well.
    You forgot to list the link for the acetone or was it alcohol that you buy, by the gallon. I prefer that size too.

    Ik this video is old but I want to say that I appreciate this video. I am new to gels, poly gels, using base coats, ect and I seen somewhere else that using alcohol first then acetone cleanses the nail. It definetly works! The thought of mixing them together had crossed my mind, but "what if there was a chemical reaction?" is what I thought. Today I find this video where a professional nail technician has taught me that it is safe to mix them together and in what quantities the mixture should be and im elated! Thank you so much.

    Hi Liz!
    I love your work and since Im a DIY from Germany who is under no restrictions to buy products, I really like your work to lift restriction in the nail industry.
    I know this video is a little bit older but I just started to do my nails in gel again and your videos help a lot to catch up. So, I hope I get the following explainations correct in a foreign language. After watching your Q&A session 2, were you mention that you use isopopanol for desinfection, I have to note something and I really hope you are not offended.
    Even though I understand the intention to keep water away from the nails, you need a certain amount of water in the solution for the alcohol to work properly. I have a master degree in biology and even though Im not an expert on microbes, this was part of the basic studies and I try to explain the mechanism. The water function as a kind of carrier for the cell poison alcohol through the cell membran. Inside the membrane/cell the alcohol denaturate certain proteins and therefore destroy the cells of f.e. bacteria or fungus. Without the water the alcohol just stays outside the cell and denaturate proteins there and do not kill microbes. Thats why alcohol with 99.9% is almost ineffective against microbes. Thats the reason why alcohol as desinfektion even for surgery is a alcohol/water solution between 70-80%. There is always a certain amount of water in the skin, so parts of the alcohol may do the trick on skin, but I would not rely on that. Even though I want to keep the nails dry, I would never go above 90%, to always have enought water to carry the poison into the cell. Just my 2 cents.
    And yes denatured ethanol would do the trick as well but you have to watch out what kind of chemical is use to denaturate the alcohol, because there are some, that are not good for the human body and therefore should not be use for cosmetic purpose. Others are on a oily base which I learned is also not good. To explain this would be another wall of text, so I leave it to this hint.
    Maybe there is another reason besides working as dry as possible behind the high percentage of the alcohol you use and in this case I apologize for being so smart-alec (I hope that is the right word).

    • @catpride1323
      @catpride1323 Рік тому +2

      Thank you for that well informed explanation. That was a great explanation, simple easy to follow and understand. I now know how to better kill microbes. I cannot believe I am the 1st to like this and or say thank you. But please don't be scared or shy away from being a smarty pants, the world needs more of them, and not more dumbing down. 😊

    Thank you. Funny...I checked the SDS on a very popular name brand cleaner to see what they put in it ( ingredients not on label ) turns out SDS said that when something is a Proprietary Blend or Trade Secret they don't have to list the ingredients on the label. But SDS has the ingredients and the proportion. Turns out the contents are acetone and alcohol at approx 90% alcohol and 10% acetone. Plus a coloring. They charge about $20 maybe more for a 16oz bottle. Another company that is huge in nail product industry sells a Gel Cleanser liquid in a 32 Oz pretty bottle. Ingredients on the label shows 90% iso alcohol. Lol. They charge $15 a bottle, if I recall correctly. I had to buy this brand for school. So thank you for communicating this basic, simple, effective solution.

    Just re-did my mani the other day. I was experimenting with amending some cheap acrygel I got. It was supposed to be black, but was really gray. So I added black dip powder, clear building gel, black gel nail polish, and black holo glitter. Stuff doesn’t want to cure, so I’ll play with more liquid-y ingredients before tossing. My original point was to tell you that my base coat of clear dip powder has stayed on for weeks and weeks now, thanks to your great nail prep tips. I love gels, but have been putting the dip powder base on to protect my very weak and damaged natural nails. I did (and still do) your prep on my own nails, plus the base of old dip polish to do fills. So far no lifting and no problems. I’ve been using 99% alcohol as my slip and cleanser when I deal with the acrygels. Sorry for rambling. I’m just feeling like I want to gush my thanks to you for your great teaching. So, thank you once again!

It didn't feel greasy and left no visible smudge marks when I rubbed it with my finger(which I made sure to wash my hands 1st) Then I wiped with 91% alcohol and came out clean. Then I mixed my 1st batch of cleanser. I used 3/4 cup of 91% alcohol to 1/4 cup of 100% pure acetone(which I made sure I read ingredients and acetone is actually the only one). If you are going to use 70% you may need to wait longer for the nails to dry. That level of IPA has a lot of water and water is the devil when it comes to gel. You can combat this also by adding a bit more acetone to the mix and also like I said giving the nails more time to dry completely.

    This is perfect thank you! I've started to come out with an allergic reaction to my brand nail prep cleanser. I'm a dabbler so this is so useful thank you again!! I can't not have nails lol

    I bought a storage tower that’s used in a hair salon for my nail products. I didn’t know I spilt acetone on it. It melted the plastic. Wonderful DIY tip tfs Liz. Have a great day and enjoy the weather.

    Awesome thanks. I’ve been using 90% Alcohol but haven’t been completely satisfied with it. Although I am so allergic to perfume that I cannot use the cleanser’s from most gel systems. Now how to make bonder?

    :( I just bought two cleaners from can west. Suppose it’s a marketing thing, base prep and then post service and they are coloured. Now I will make my own. Thank you for the educational video. You rock and now I will test my cleaners. Hopefully they aren’t to greasy and I can use it as they are brand new and not opened

    • @TheNailHub
      @TheNailHub  5 років тому

      Do the test for sure! If they're for a system you use and are meant to go with a specific product I'm sure it's fine. The issue arises when you use a cleanser that is not for the brand of gel you use and have issues caused by extra ingredients. The way I make my cleanser means I can use it with anything!

      @saradang5802 5 років тому

      I was trained on akzents and found the price to be quite expensive for the prep and wipe but like you said the cleaner you make is good for anything and I like that idea. I'm definitely learning as i go and i appreciate all the information that you provide to your viewers youre a great help and a great educator. Keep up the great work and hopefully i get to meet you someday in the future!

    I always use my own cleanser and now I will be mixing acetone and isop. alcohol. Normally I was just using the 91% Isop. Alcohol. Thanks for the tip on adding acetone. I wasn't sure about that cause when I get acetone on my skin, I peel bad. I am sure I can keep it from touching the skin however..haha Gotta be less messy..LOL TY so much for this video. I will make a video about this for my subscribers and shout you out for any of them who don't know you. tfs

      IPA can also cause skin to peel if over used. Be sure to put moisture back after application through a good cuticle and lotion.

      I've been using 91% isopropyl alcohol and it does a better job of cleaning my gel than an actual gel cleanser. The one they sell at ulta beauty (blue liquid) is what I was using. My nails were never clean and shiny looking until I started using 91% isopropyl alcohol

    • @Babygirlnails
      @Babygirlnails 5 років тому +1

      @@coolkid-xc1yi I actually mixed my 91% with acetone like she did and it works fab!! I have no more lifting. I didn't have much at all anyway but it helps a lot.

    I purchased the cinnatize nail cleanser from your site months ago because it wasn’t tied to a “system.” Is this one you don’t recommend using since it has both a pink color and a slight hint of cinnamon? I really like it and so do my clients.

    • @TheNailHub
      @TheNailHub  5 років тому +5

      stephanie baldwin cinnatize is actually an exception. It does not leave a residue at all. Do the mirror test with it and you’ll see what I mean. It’s a great cleanser.

    Also wanted to ask, can I also add Ethanol to this mix and what effect would it have on the mixture? Saw that a couple of cleansers have this ingredient, so pls reply and thank you so much for the information trove, checking you out on Instagram. Love ya 🎁🎁😍😙😘😚🙋

    Hello LIz, I am catching up with all your content and I want to say how amazing you are and incredibly helpful your content is. I am a Bio Sculpture user as the brand is amazing and Ethical on top of it. I am in Canada and trying to soak in all I can get from the pros. I did my certification 30 years ago and went back to my dancing profession. Now with Covid and the art business being what it is I decided to refresh my skills and try to earn a little money from this. Ok so my question in regards to your nail cleanser, if the soft gels melt with acetone and you cleanse the nail with some acetone, won't it get the melting going? Do you use your nail cleanser on your gel to take the inhibition layer in order to buff or file to perfection?

  • @MarianaRJMM
    @MarianaRJMM 5 років тому +1

    I've always used just alcohol (96%) because it's way cheaper than cleansers and I always thought "well, if the goal is to get rid of oils, there's nothing better than alcohol". But what advantages does the acetone bring? I have an issue with the durabilty of the shine, do I get a more shiny outcome with that mix?
