- While I watched through Shinkenger for the first time, I finally understood what people meant when they said Power Rangers Samurai was just a translated version of the season. So I decided to have a little bit of fun and make a special episode of Sentai Potential looking at Samurai Sentai Shinkenger through the lens of it already becoming a Power Rangers season!

I’m with you on the Red Ranger being Japanese. That should’ve been the case from the beginning.
He could have been japanese American but his mom died and his dad trained him in japan all his life and he goes back to America but he can't reconnect with it and through out the show his development is reconnecting with America and its theme and culture just like what ninja steel did with its red ranger and the female red was commanding the team while true hire was training and when his father gets killed he goes to japan and female red is now like the monitor character and other teammate doesn't like this but over time they grow to accept him and the monitor becomes the gold ranger
any questions and what will you change about this idea
I for one think that the Kaoru version in Samurai should be the one being a full Japanese actress... It would make sooooooo much sense that the PR Takeru version was not Japanese, because he's not the actual head of the Shiba house....

When I was a kid, Samurai was the reason I got into power rangers.
Got the Morpher and all the zords for the gigazord except the bull zord, and it was the reason that Japanese weaponry fascinates me.
Without it, I wouldn't be the same.
The thought of the other rangers being mixed Japanese or having Japanese heritage sounds amazing and the season could have a big theme of knowing your roots and learning about your heritage. They could absolutely have the rangers learning about Japanese culture and then when the gold ranger joins its the other rangers teaching him about it. The gold ranger is just a weaboo with a mall katana and everything, who went to japan after seeing the rangers fight and decided to want to be part of the team and he’s utterly decimated in battle because he doesn’t actually know how to be a samurai. Eventually it’s a lesson on how to learn about other cultures and participate in them without overstepping.

To be fair when you write the word It doesn't matter what type of horse that's just how script works
It’s a joke, because of two things, one “horse” in some places is still a colloquial term for any transportation, and how Kanji and Katakana are easy to mess up writing due to the intricate design of much of the symbols and lettering they use

Shinkenger was adapted because Saban wasn't allowed to skip seasons at the time. If Shinkenger came out later, it definitely would have been skipped.
In hindsight, it would have made the samurai form for the Legendary Megazord a bit hard to explain, but that's just me thinking with the mindset that Gokaiger would still be adapted the lazy way it was, and not thinking that in this scenario, we would have actually had Mega Force as the first Neo-Saban series, with Gokaiger being a wholly different adaption because they wouldn't be making two Sentai into one PR season.
Why? Because of the cultural motif? That didn't stop them from adapting Ninninger.

Where Ninninger pretty much just was ninjas theme to monsters and rangers.
@@JohnWilliams-wl9px Yeah. And ninjas are a cultural motif. Saban had issues with that the first time around when they adapted Kakuranger. They made them literal aliens, which was ridiculous.
@@danielwilson7193 not really they were portrayed more fantastic and not at all like the real one, and barely had the cultural practices of ninjas to them. They were treated no different than any other motif to other series, it was just a gimmick like dinosaurs for other series
Unlike Shinkenger were it they had several real world Japanese cultural aspects tied directly to the show. People who announces their arrival to battle, kabuki dancers, importance of family name, and lastly the twist of red ranger being a decoy. Even the Japanese cultural idea of the collective being more important than them one’s individualism.
There even a joke that Shinkenger was made to make impossible to adapt to Power rangers.
Me too Power Rangers Samurai is my first season (Power Rangers Samurai /SuperSamurai and Samurai Sentai Shinkenger is the best season)
Shinkenger is still quite unique to it's adapted counterpart. Some bits just have more impact than the western version.

Like how Takeru is not blood related to Kaoru, whereas Jayden IS related to Lauren. I significantly enjoyed how Kaoru adopts Takeru in order for the new plan to work.
I’ll give Samurai props for actually making the rangers look like fully armored like they should be. Granted it’s only for the cockpit (which was still stupid) but still awesome looking.
Red really should have been Japanese or someone of Asian descent. Jayden being a white guy was just cultural tone deaf.
And don’t get me started on the Shark zord. Like seriously? Couldn’t be bothered to call it the Dino zord.
and they named him jayden shiba.
With Dino fury I think the red ranger is half asian, they should have done something like that for samurai because it’s a western show a full Asian leader wouldn’t have happened since there marketing to an American- English speaking audience
@@donting24 Having an East/Southeast Asian red leader has nothing to do with it being marketed towards American audiences considering how they've basically had everything from Middle Eastern, Indian, Latino and Black leaders. People like Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee are legends in the US and the West. This is just Saban being a xenophobic asshole towards East and Southeast Asians. Also just to correct you, Russell Curry is like a 1/4 Japanese.
Eh, Jayden being Caucasian doesn’t bother me. I mean yeah I’m still waiting on this series to finally give us an Asian red ranger. But, it’s not like it’s a crime against humanity.
Shinkenger is my favorite season of Sentai and it pains me to watch Samurai. I love the entire team of Shikengers and their group dynamic. None of the changes to characters or stories were improvements they just made things worse.
I think my fix to making the team diverse while still making the series still be Japanese. Would simply have the backstory is that the rangers attend to a ranger academy like Ninja Storm, SPD, and jungle fury.
Red would be the part of the family that runs it, and seeming the best student.
Gold I still keep the childhood best friend aspect. The change is that he used to be a student at the academy but was kicked out for being a delinquent.

While I have mixed feelings for power rangers samurai, I do enjoy the armor they added especially the shogun mode which I hope one day Hasbro releases a lightning collection figure
Power Rangers Samurai was also my first Power Rangers season, and is my absolute favorite season.
I think you and the writers had the same idea as you I remember from a video that the writers wanted the rangers to be a team of people around the world but writers were forced to think small by either saban or nick
To be fair, shinkenger’s mentor was actually named Hikoma Kusakabe (Ji is just a nickname)
I never knew how much Samurai was like the original source.. and yet they messed up somehow.. like they took a show, almost literally translated it and it still fell flat.. how?
Also side note.. it bothers me how they only used Shogun mode like.. once outside of a cockpit XD
am i the only one who noticed , samurai edits out every single green screen shot of shinkenger that features the swastika in the background. Yes i know it has a different meaning. but i just didn’t it interesting since it comes from a season that usually leaves mistakes from the sentai footage

I'll be honest, I like Power Ranger Samurai is because it taught me more about the Samurai and japanese culture. So this season is a 6/10. Is in my top 10.
Do a Sentai Potential for Zenkaiger after it ends and a idea for this adaptation is to make the action figures also the Megazord toys.
Would also be a good opportunity to adapt some of the pre zyuranger teams which had additional lore in the comics

Please review Goseiger and Gokaiger and make a sentai potential for them. Saban ruined those entries for me, it would be awesome to see your take on them.

Gem of Souls make lost ninja spirits specter powers. O.G mystic use zord energy for blitz powers. Prism rangers made the zeo crystal. Pai Zhuq masters star power be squadron rangers. Mike used his suit gem transdagger tech to make defender rangers.
Characters:Gia Kai Kendrix baby came earth for grandparents with Bulk for Skull. Noah mom left lightspeed. Emma mom died from Orgs. Jake banker mom left reef side. Tensou a Deka. Wild Sword is Preston's Wand sealed in time. Dr.Cog born from bio field hack merging Venjix and Crunch. Troy wind ninja took scroll of time to end Luthor went to Legendary Battle. Rangers with Red Zeo(Lauren) MM White(Cestra) left to space fighting Draven. Orion Jason Kat son lured away from a hunter Jason fought losing powers. Tommy held Kat's hand from trauma being used against rangers again. Hayley his wife.
Zords: Gosei karmanian pegasus found his brother Goldar cursed lost wings kept power part monkey. Z wave sent him Dormant in repaired mega winger fracturing powers into super mega suits and keys. He repaired delta runner ninja storm's as legendary megazord how mini zord returns. Also omega max cycle for Ultra Gosei Great. Mega wings went to Q Rex looking different from Triple Spike energy of Tommy dragon coin Trent Vest Eric emblem. Turbo Falcon has Heckyl Zenowing DNA with road attack tech. Red lion merged with Soul Bird.

I dont mind samurai having armor upgrade inside the cockpit, feels like they need a special suit just to enter the zords, besides the normal outfit for outside battles. And tbh the armor looks super cool expecially the one that use super form outside did get different mega mode colour (white armor) when enters the zord.
Personally, I don't hate Samurai. It's a good show. My problem is the series was too similiar with Shinkenger, so I end up comparing them. And Shinkenger is far more superior in most aspect. The best thing from Samurai is the tragic story of Dayu and Deker.
Your version of Samurai is much better than the original Samurai lol. If the story is like that, it'll be more interesting.

Actually prefered Deker and Dayuu in Samurai vs Juzo and Dayuu in Shinkenger.
I think Shinkenger tried to be to dark and edgy with Juzo and Dayuu in which I mean they’re both full on psychopaths. Then they show wierd sense of humanity , for example Juzo is the one who likes Genta’s sushi sorta showing he’s not all bad cuz he half human and these he just exclaims he had a hard on for killing people and even knowing he was using a blade filled with his family souls or whatever.
Not much to say on Dayuu she did show humanity but still a psychopath.
Initially Yeah the power ranger take on the characters seem to be done for censorship but in actual writting standards It’s more dark.
The fact that Serrator was the guy who plotted everything and got Deker and Dayuu(more on Dayuu here) to give up their humanity for nothing ends up being more dark imo despite enjoying Juzo and Dayuu more in Shinkenger.
I think straight forward adaptions can work (ex Time Force and Wild Force) but it’s just strange how they omitted things that could have worked (giving Bulk and Spike a reason to be there by adapting the Shinken Brown episode and perhaps expanding on it) and adding things that hindered it (the cockpit modes and Bulk and Spike’s filler sections). I know Nick didn’t help either with their influence such as dividing one season into 2 and limiting them to 20 episodes each. That and we were teased with only a 5% adaptation of the Go Onger/RPM team up which was a definite slap in the face considering I loved RPM and it was a shame that we only got to see the fully realized team up in the Sentai only.
I feel like all of your ideas would have been really cool and made the season significantly better.

Samurai originally had the ranger travel the world to fight oni and the sanzu river had a Japanese castle that the oni live in it
I remember reading an alternate story written by another writer who didn't actually work on Samurai that had a red ranger of Japanese decent and the others were recruited from across the world. I read about it years ago.

Those "symbol visors" actually mean Japanese AND mandarin words that in english, translates to 火(fire) 水 (water) 美(beautiful) 木(wood) and 地(ground) :D
Actually Pink’s is 天(Heaven/Sky) and Yellow is 土(Earth/Land, so same meaning basically) And gold is 光(Light).
I don't get how people see the cockpit mode as "fully armored" when it's based on kamishimo, which is basically just a very formal attire, kinda like a full-set tuxedo

Edit: actually no, the reason they changed decker and Dayuu was actually a rare case of Jonathan Tzachor saying he wanted sentai plots changed as he felt like plague, love obsession, murder, and falling to darkness willingly was a bit too much to just show and say with your chest like Shinkenger did, and much like me Tzachor is a Shinkenger Fanboy

they did for 20th anniversarry but saban too lazy super megaforce went downhill but for 30th theres no anniversarry sentai to adapt that uses old sentai powers. Zenkaiger have the white sentai
I definitely have good memories with Samurai! Power Rangers Samurai was the time that I found out about Super Sentai and watched a few seasons to start out with it (including Shinkenger). And also I literally called the Red Ranger twist before I even knew about Sentai! Like I was with my brother and a friend of mine and one of them asked me “what’s Jaydens secret?” or something along those lines and I said to them, basically not thinking anything of it, I said “I don’t know, maybe he has a sister.” (And also I said this early on in the show). And near the end in Samurai, BOOM Jayden’s sister shows up! (Although at this point in Samurai I’ve already watched the entirety of Shinkenger so kinda found out before the reveal but still, I called it!)
The only thing I would change, is make the light Zord in scale with the other three megazords. I think that was the main problem in the toy line. It was in scale with the figures, but not also the robots. In my opinion, you need to have both.

I like this video idea, I would like to see how you view megaforce, the trainwreck of a thing to exist
For this season I would make 3 of samurai rangers related to non Japanese samurai they colors would be blue green and yellow would be related to the African samurai, the British samurai, and the Italian samurai the only Japanese characters who are part of the team were pink, mentor and the true red ranger, I would make the red ranger actually adopted since while the rangers had not been needed for so long the team assumed the head of the red rangers had a wife or husband who was not Japanese, but when the true red ranger shows up she’d be played by a Japanese actress and Jaydens adopted parents who would also be played by Japanese actors it is explained that she was born too late and so they adopted Jayden to be a temporary red ranger and wait until the true red ranger would lead, Jayden left, but the team is not a fan of their new red ranger because she’s too stubborn to do things on her own and she has no time to bond with the rangers, so in her choice once the rangers get Jayden back to the home his adopted parents refuse to have him be red ranger because they had only used him as a temporary leader to take the name, but the true red ranger shuts her parents up, and lets Jayden return to be red ranger because she has failed her ancestors and believes her adopted older brother should be leader

Jaden Shiba not wanting. Well.
To be a Ranger. Cuz he's just a bait, and Jaden, the character, doesn't seem to appreciate deceiving other people.
He runs off, as you say, to other parts of the world and befriends the other rangers, onky to find out too late that they are his retainers and he has to run away again.
( I DON'T KNOW??? I just love the idea of a red ranger refusing to be a ranger, not cuz he isnt cut out for it, but because of the complications it would lead on to.)
So literally what both shows did
Well the car Ranger gotadapted into turbo as a continuation of the power rangers turbo movie. it almost got the America dubb cancelled when it was only about half way done.

I'm veteran with power rangers from 1993 all the way back when PR was on Fox Kids.
When I found out PR was from japan from Super Sentai, I was hooked. Not like Kamen Rider, I am HOOKED.
It's nice to see the difference in Magiranger with Magiking's sword swipe in the first ep appearance but in
mystic force they added a "magical sparkle" effect to the attack.
There is a main different between the two but one thing I need to bring up is that power rangers needs to stop talking.
Actions speak louder than words and I like the concept of people being silent while action scenes and such.
And... This is why my redo of Samurai involves Jayden being the one sent away, which leads to Antonio making two morphers and Jayden taking on the copper color because it's a reddish metal and it also works with Antonio's gold. (Also, they're gay. That's definitely happening.)
I thought Samurai was adapted because at the time they weren't allowed to skip anything (it's been said that's why MegaForce adapted Goseiger instead of skipping straight to Gokaiger for both its seasons)
I personally wanted some changes between Jayden and the Deker conflict in the show. Having Deker actually possess Cole’s body and have Jayden’s motivation to be saving Cole from Deker’s possession rather than winning Deker’s desire to fight. It’s no coincidence that both Jayden’s and Cole’s zords are a red lion.

The only things that I would change is I would have it actually set in Japan with the red, gold and yellow rangers being japanese, as well as most of the other non-ranger characters. That's honestly all that I would change personally.
Ok making Nihlock into humans and fusing them is perfectly fine because it still plays to what Power Rangers is all about especially since you give the black box morpher something else to do.

Power Rangers Samurai disappointed me so much, I like when the Super Sentai and the Power Ranger are two different things. If I want to watch Shinkenger, I would watch Shinkenger
The way I would go with Power Ranger Samurai, I would just have the Red Ranger and Mentor Ji from Japan. They come to the US because the Sanzu River is opening up in a different country. They was send their so the true head of the clan would be able to work on the seal without being attacked (that be reveal later). The other Rangers are people who join Mentor Ji's dojo (probably in a mall) and I would make Bulk his assistant and the Brown Ranger

U could do this as a rewrite dont change anything about the show but rewrite to be more fateful and entertaining

I think its about time Power Rangers make their own originals away from copying Super Sentai, cause not all ss teams meet with the pr story/theme, Gokaiger/Super Megaforce is a prime example of this. By now, Saban should have enough experience to create their own team exclusive to PR only.
