Thank you Dom, I did not know about this new box! Roedelius was forced into the Hitler Youth brigade and appeared in one or two pro- Nazi propaganda films. He also spent two years in prison after trying to flee East Germany, after the War. He was a physical therapist and a masseur. Funny ,because he does ''massage' my brain, and ''warm'' my heart! I saw him perform solo circa 2000, in a small venue in Providence. It was a solo laptop affair, with only 45 people in the audience. Three or four times, I was compelled to stand on my chair and yell at the crowd because they were too noisy, laughing and talking and clinking their martini glasses. I could not believe that so many, were so disrespectful to such a humble man, just trying to make us all feel uplifted and glorified. After the show, Hans and his daughter, Rosa, thanked me for my intervention, on their behalf. I bought the album, ''Jardin Au Fou'' from Hans and they both autographed it for me. Rosa appears on the song, ''Rue Fortune'', she was maybe 3 or 4 years old. She told me that her vocals on the piece translate as, ''I want to suck my mommy's titties''. Yes Roedelius is a ''Family Man''. Rosa Roedelius is now, a visual artist, she does sculptures and tapestries too. After the election results were final, Cindy and I drove to the beach and just stared at the Atlantic Ocean for about 45 minutes, we felt much better.
beautiful story as always Michael, especially the part about the titties. I like your post election Ocean staredown. We're gonna need to steel up for this a bit. But what a life and a legacy.
Excellent video. Glad to see love for Roedelius' solo work and I'll have to eventually make room for this box set in my collection. Always very warm and inviting music, all the way back to Cluster tracks like Es war einmal to more recent albums like Selbstportrait Wahre Liebe
I've been in a bubble in Den Bosch but this pulls me right back to reality. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I feel for you and all of America. This election will affect the entire world in a negative way, including the United States. Anyway, I hope you are well and great to hear that music can give you some strength. Looking forward to see your WFMU video. Take care!
And I hope Den Bosch was amazing. Looking forward to seeing what you took home. You dig Roedlius? Where do you stand on box sets? Perhaps this isn't something you'd go for which I get. I pass on box sets for the most part. Cheers jonas! and hope you got that Dolly Mixture ok
@@seekingathread Hi Dom! Yes, Den Bosch was amazing, I have to put together a video about it. I haven't listened to Roedelius solo work, but I like what you played, and I like both Cluster and Harmonia, so I have to check it out. I normally don't buy box sets. But I don't think I have any problem with the format per se. But often box sets are a retrospective collection of songs, and I don't really buy those. I have like "All Things Must Pass" and Donovans Gift from a flower and boxes like that. Dolly Mixture has just been release from customs and should be here soon, I'll let you know when I get it. Cheers!
hi dom - i watched a bit of this and it reminded me of the box, and you made it clear it was a good one. So i slid over to Amazon and it was 69.99 gbp. so i grabbed it. it then went to 85 gbp and now has disappeared. And it is so good and so beautiful a thing to behold as well. many many thanks for your video sir. Without it i would not be the proud possessor of 90 by Rodelius and my life would be a bit less complete. gracias mon ami, bunk
Awesome Bunk! I'm glad to hear you were able to secure one. I knew when I saw the distributor already sold out that it would become a piece. Must have not made many. Nice that you got it for the right price too. I really think this music does help make life better. A beautiful set. Nice to hear that worked out!
I've been listening to this to for the same reasons. Thanks for sharing and I agree that the best things we can do is lead a decent life and be good to others.
One of the best VC videos I’ve seen Dom, I feel your mood. My mind is taking me to a different route where everything I listen to is dreadful vs uplifting (Roedelius) . One of my all time favorite tracks (period) is Roedelius/Tim Story - Inlandish, if you know that one. My wife bought it for me when we were dating. It’s going to suck, but at least we have good friends, families and records.
All true Frank but I don't know that record. Or at least I haven't heard it but am aware. Someone else in the comments recommended it so must be heard now. Glad this one registered so well and looking forward to hanging in person whenever we can.
This was a beautiful little video Dom. There's no doubt in my mind that music is the healing power of the universe, and it's been said by much greater minds than me! Thoughts are with our American friends right now, sending love from across the pond, there will be a spring after this winter. Man I had been on the french with this one, another box set, the price...but you just totally convinced me just how important this one was. I love that more personal touch to this, and almost behind the curtains tour with the great man, at the kitchen table so to speak. Thanks for putting this together, solace indeed 🙏
Christoph great to hear from you as always. There is something deeply personal and moving about this Roedelius music. There's such a warm intimacy to it and paired with the past images of his laugh, it's hard not to swoon a bit. I'm so happy to have it. And I hope you're right about a spring coming, even as we haven't even gotten into what will probably be a prolonged winter. Cheers my friend!
I’m so glad I watched your video, Dom. I’ve been avoiding UA-cam since Tuesday because everything normal seems so strange at the moment. But life goes on and oddly hearing that you found some solace within the music of Roedelius made me feel better. It looks like an amazing set. I was actually presented with the opportunity to interview Roedelius back in 2016. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out for that interview but…well one day perhaps I’ll tell you the full story. I wish I had the wherewithal to grab that set at the moment but I have been spending so much on vinyl the last few weeks that I should probably hold off. Lol. Btw - There is an interesting album worth check out that Roedelius did with Carl Michael von Hausswolff called Nordlights released in 2017 on the Curious Music label. It’s very different from many of his other albums but the collaboration works in my estimation. Anyway…thanks for sharing your feelings about Tuesday. And also for sharing this amazing new box-set. Now…maybe if I put it on a credit card it would be ok? Hmmmmm. Lol. Cheers. Shawn
This one is worth the credit card debt Shawn. But I also understand having bought too much records elsewhere. Afterall I just came back from new york with 40+ records. And then had to go pay for this. And now its all I can listen to. Would love to hear that story and your near run-in with the man. Plus I do remember seeing that collaboration but never did listen to it. Thanks for putting that on my radar.
@ I’ve heard that. I like it. But I don’t love it. Perhaps I was expecting something different from what was provided. I’ll give it another shot. Sometimes you’re just not ready to hear the music with the correct ears. Thanks.
@@the-vinyl-dreamscape5084 Friedrich Nietzsche said it quite well, ''New ears for new music''. I was prepared not to like ''Lunz'', but fortunately I forgot that I had new ears.
@@michaelvalentini4869 You're certainly talking my language - i love a good Nietzsche quote! His writing always spoke to me and i wish there wasn't this association with the right. I'm much closer to Marx politically. But Nietzsche spoke to the artist with such poetry. Marx was always so damn rational. Lol. Cheers!
Thanks, Dom! Loved the video! I got my copy this week, but I haven’t had the chance to find the time and space to really dive into it yet. It’s an exciting box set and will definitely be one of my favorite purchases this year. Hope you’re doing well and the mustache looks great on you! Keep it! Haha 😉
haha thanks Marcus. I'm liking it but I will tire of it at some point. That's usually what happens to me with box sets. Takes me a while to crack em but this one I've been completely devoted to. I'm sure you'll love it when you get to it.
love Roedelius and appreciate you speaking out against a terrible human and the sad state of our country. good will endure, but lord these 4 years are going to suck.
Dom, many of us will have to wrap ourselves in music the next 4 years ( let’s hope he doesn’t rewrite term limits). Interesting music, not my cup of tea but I always enjoy hearing you talk about it
Hey Dom, a bit late putting in a comment but this was a really cool video. I don't have any individual Roedelius albums but sorted with Harmonia and Cluster! Beautiful music. Unfortunately this set is not on CD- a bit not cool. But you did a great job reviewing it. I think it is not so much what happens in elections. It's more about what you can contribute to society to keep it on an even keel!
Thanks Daniel. This would actually make a ton of sense on cd. Most ambient or instrumental music of this ilk does. Perhaps it will get pressed on CD since the vinyl box looks to be gone. You said it right too. Being a good human and contributing something decent to society is one of the only things you can control.
Oh, by the way, the shop I work at got copies. We got 5. 4 were pre-ordered, 1 will hit the floor for relase date (Nov. 18). Not sure if my domestic distro has any copies left.

Not everyday you get a video dedicated to the mighty Roedelius ! Thanks. I need to check out Self Portrait 3 and this new boxset !!
He is quite consistent and everything from the 70s and early 80s is lovely. So warm and transcendent.

Yes if it was Redeye, they are sold out of it. But you can see that the demand is high. Crack that thing!
Yup, Redeye. Ben is my sales rep. Great guy.

Canada wept. Tariffs are going to kill us
I'm sorry about what is happening in your country. I guess we can't control what happens next
He's got carte blanche to do what he wants. Lookout!
In the meantime you can give his golf course in Florida a bad review. I’m surprised in the only one who’s done that
This is a solid idea!

Maybe he’ll spare him if he shows all of his Poison records.
No worries. Announce your candidacy for president and you’ll skate 😂
