i doubt it was his buddy that put it together. you can see marks from where the main caps were installed and torqued. his tuneup was probably dog sh*t and destroyed this nice build. crower is not some chinese pos.
I think it would be fun if you did a half-assed repair on that engine. Put new pistons and rods in it, ignore all best practices, just get it back running.
Id use the head on your new motor, didnt he say they were built? Thatll save you bunch of money and youll have built heads ready to go. May have to replace a few things or have em decked or something if piston slapped them when it blew up
Dude please do a lc9 RPO coded 5.3 v8. They come with gen 4 rods and flat top pistons. Only pitfall is they have DOD but you'll be removing the heads anyway. Btw its an all aluminum block that stand up to a beating. They come out of 09 to 13 Silverado 1500s
Rip my buddy had a stock 5.3 2002 stepside and it dropped a valve in the first motor and vaporized piston number 4. Then in the new motor from an 08 Tahoe had issues with the cam or something like that and they had to open the motor. It had trans issues too (4l60e for ya)
Glitter in the oil means it was likely owned by a stripper which aren’t generally known for doing good maintenance. Better to just pull it
