I am glad i am not the only one struggling with this You don't wanna know how many times i had to explain this to people (who don't have any instrumental experience)
Thanks for the Video clip! Excuse me for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you thought about - Chiveard Awesome Speaker Framework (google it)? It is a good one of a kind product for learning how to master the piano minus the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my BF at very last got cool success with it.
I led worship playing and singing for the first time tonight on Zoom. Your tips and lessons really encouraged me to get back practicing and being able to achieve this tonight was my dream of why I started playing in the first place. Thank you.
Timestamps for the tips! 0:24 - 1) Know your song 0:57 - 2) Stick with simple accompaniment 1:42 - 3) Sing without words 2:15 - 4) Have a conversation 2:40 - 5) Create your own track
I hadn’t seen this yet..I had been teaching myself scales and chords off UA-cam tutorials a while now but never played a full song before but just recently I got determined to play a full Bruno Mars song and I naturally was able to sing and play the whole song after 3 days..even including a lot of Bruno’s fancy rocking piano cadence! I am actually very impressed with myself now 😆 I always believed I could one day do this but got sad about never having followed thru enough to actually sing and play a full song beautifully but now I’m amazed what humans can do when we kick fear in the ass an get determined. Believe in yourself and never quit. Take needed breaks an do rest to integrate new info but NEVER EVER quit Thank you beautiful sweet piano lady 🙂
Mad respect to guys like Elton John. You don't realize how crazy hard it is to play piano and sing at the same time without the timings getting mixed up until you actually try. Each hand and your voice are on their own time, doing their own notes, and then you need to remember lyrics on top of that.
What a great teacher you are. Now for the next level: try counting/singing in '5' over the 4/4 piano pulse [ using a metronome ] with a supported intake of breath on the 1 and 4 or 2 and 5. It will keep your system oxygenated and your muscles light and increasingly balanced using minimum of effort. And importantly... not locked in to a regular over forced rigid groove. This applied, over time , if you play with the system, will allow you to freely optimize the juggling of the two skills. Btw, don't move anything below the bench; just the smallest pedal if needed.
I’ve taught myself to do this which has been trying because I’m a saxophone player. Thanks for the tips…..you have a nice voice and a great piano touch…
Many, many thanks! I've struggled to be able to pitch my voice at the right volume so I can hear it over the piano. I tend to over-sing just to hear myself. Your technique to speak or hum first gives the voice the correct setting/compression/volume.
Hi! I have been teaching myself piano and keyboard for a few years using my guitar ear. However No matter how I tried I could not sing until you showed how to break it down and sing “Let it be”. You are great! Many many thanks. Now it’s practice time
Great tips. Also what helps me is singing while just drumming the piano rhythm with my hands - especially if the left and right hands are doing different rhythms than each other and the voice.
Thank you sooooo much ! i can not appreciate you enough for doing this segment. I have been looking for the perfect inputs for how to play the piano and sing simultaneously. Great tutorial ! Also you have an amazing voice !
Ral Rust get your ass outta here, it doesn’t mean she ugly or anything he’s simply stating that the appearance somewhat reminded him of the fairy godmother.
Thank you for the great tips! I hope this helps me, not only at the piano but also playing the ukulele where you're only playing chords and strumming. I can't seem to strum and sing simultaneously.
Lovely voice. I appreciate the video also. Simple and straight forward. I have applied your techniques in the past and they really, really work. Good job, and keep them videos coming sis! 👊👊👊
Excellent tips! Since I play original material, when I am finished writing a new song, it takes me a few weeks to get it performance-ready. An inevitable part of that process happens when I am trying to sing against my chords, but I can't do it yet. How do you break through that? The answer for me is to keep trying. I keep going into the part or parts of that song, and I try to not mess up. If I do, I restart that section over and over until I can do it. The first practice on a new song usuaaly requires about 30 minutes on that, and every day that time shrinks down as I get better, until I can play the whole song without error.
As I have played and sung from day one I didn’t find it so hard but I stick with simple chords while singing and then try to elaborate with some licks and phrases during long pauses or when appropriate 🎶 🎹 I don’t sing that well but it’s for the Lord 💝 been playing for about a year
It so strange to be starting something new musically. I play complex classical music for fun but ask me to sing while playing and I’m useless. Looking forward to the challenge.
Thanks! When i get interrupted while playing and have to say something back, i speak in compressed sentences over the beat. Guess i will have to get rid of that
Beatles/McCartney songs are generally easy to play and sing together as Paul have stated that’s how they designed their music. Doing it with a Billy Joel or Elton John music is another story and different animal.
I am glad i am not the only one struggling with this

Holy gee, I have no idea that humming can be such a good trick. I tried and it works. Thanks!

She looked like she really needed to press the lips together, otherwise the song would just burst out of her. :D
Many, many thanks! I've struggled to be able to pitch my voice at the right volume so I can hear it over the piano. I tend to over-sing just to hear myself. Your technique to speak or hum first gives the voice the correct setting/compression/volume.

If the ultimate intention is to sing while playing the piano, should I be practicing my singing separately while standing or sitting at the piano?
