I know someone who did basically this: raised one orphaned wild rabbit to release. Missed it, went to the humane society and adopted a bunny, then another, and got a rehabilitator permit and started taking in rescues. It's addictive, and if you’ve got to be addicted to something, helping creatures in need is one of the best options.

@@christiangasior4244 Angel Martin is right, the DNR says that, on average, rabbits live for just 11 months after leaving the nest. But they live as rabbits: free to roam and forage, to dig what must be dug, chew what must be chewed, to live in a fluffle with a dozen or two other rabbits, and to raise lots of little rabbits. domesticated rabbits have been selectively bred to do better with less territory and to bond with humans so they don’t need so many other rabbits around, but their wild cousins are just that: wild.

She saved the little bunny's life--she went against what "such as nature" has chosen for the rabbit. Your response is hypocritical. Because she rescued the rabbit from such a young age, it's not wise to release the rabbit back into the wild. All animals have wild instincts, but that does not mean that they will survive. Such is nature. She would have done the rabbit better to have kept them with her since she's the only care the rabbit has ever known.

@@wamuwuuwu5097 Rabbit moms don't "mother". The dig a nest, line it with grass and fur. Have the babies. Bury the babies and go away. They only come back in the morning and at night to feed them. Feeding takes about 5 minutes. Most folks will never see it happen. In the wild mom usually gets pregnant again as soon as she hops out of the nest after having her litter. So after about 4 weeks mom is building another nest and these kits are on their own.
Rabbit Moms don't cuddle their kits either. This kit was either still being fed by mom and the lady interfered with it not knowing how rabbits behave or mom was killed and the lady saved the kit. But in most states it is illegal to rehab or "rescue" a wild bunny unless you have a permit to do so.

Myself dog wrapped himself around the box and woke me up every few hours to feed the kit. After about a week, I had the kit sitting on my sofa with my dog’s muzzle right next to it. One eye opened and the kit instantly bonded with my dog. They were best friends for a couple of years. Rabbit kittens are so adorably cute. I was crazy about rabbits years ago (I grew up on a farm) and my father sometimes came across nests while haying. My father always drove around the nests, and any other young animal in the field, like a hiding fawn. It left odd ovals of hay standing in the cut field.
They are still very small when they end nursing and are actually independent once that is done. Of course the little things are easy prey. That is sad. It is also the reason, I'm sure, that litters are usually large.
You did such a good thing :). And you made sure she was safe and gave her time to get used to living outdoors. It just makes me smile.

This brought tears to my eyes because it pretty much reminded me of the hare/rabbit we once had.
One day there was a storm outside and my dad was working.
It stopped raining a bit and I think he went outside with his co-workers to have a smoke or smth.
They experienced something really sad: dead bunnys everywhere with only one newborn miraculously being alive.
Apparently their burrow was flooded and most of them drowned in the process, idk how that little one made it but my dad and his co-workers took it inside and later she was brought home.
It was 2003 and I don't really know if there's even something like a wildlife center nearby, my parents kinda just googled most of it I think.. so my mother got some kitten milk and fed the bunny with it. She couldn't sleep much because that rabbit was soooo hungry.. she started to carry it around in some bag close to her stomach, like a kangoroo mommy.
Around that time we also had a guinea pig and even though it won't replace a rabbit family for her, that's all we had at the time and our guinea pig (that was alone at the time, she got company later) didn't hurt her, in fact she cared for her. They'd cuddle all the time but when the bunny got older, she had so much energy. Keeping her inside felt cruel and she grew so much! We eventually had to let her go and it hurt. I hope she was okay.

I'm in a rural area with wildlife habitat in my back yard.
I loved seeing the bunnies come out and play and eat.
Hubby wanted to cut down the thorn bushes and tangled vegetation but I wouldn't let him as it's a natural barrier for predators.
Unfortunately during a hurricane a large tree came down.
I haven't seen any wild bunnies since.

I have stepped on one not knowing it was a bunny hutch , there were 3 bunnies in there, I put the dried grass that was covering them and left them alone while I watched, the mama rabbit came back and rescued her little ones. 😢❤️😘

You did a very good deed. Rabbits are intelligent and loving animals, and the more people see videos like this, the more likely they are to see rabbits as more than just wild animals to be hunted, or pests to be eliminated, but instead as animals worthy of care and respect, and even being pets as well not much different than having a cat or a dog.

I've rescued baby bunnies a few times. After they opened their eyes, they were mean as spit. They would scream until you got the bottle in their mouth. They would drink until full and then kick the crap out of you to get away. They would smack you with their front paws when I would try to put food in their cage. They were as wild as could be, which I wanted because I didn't want them used to people but there was definitely no bonding going on. Once big, enough, I put them outside. They took off and that was it.

I know, me too. But we have to let them decide. I know it’s not the same, but I have a cat that was a stray all his life, someone abandoned him at an early age. He survived out in the wild and when we bought our house, he just came to live with us. He chose me. I take very good care of him but I don’t force him to stay inside only. He’s miserable when I tried. He comes and goes as he pleases and is happy. We live in a very safe and exclusive beach community. The actual beach is a mile away. I put a break away collar on him with a bell so if he tries to sneak up on a bunny or bird, they will know and run. We have many rabbits around here as well as many different kinds of animals such as chipmunks which I adore . We had a groundhog mom and 3 babies move in under our shed. They all left right before winter. They were so beautiful. Anyway my cat is getting older now and stays home a lot more. Cuddles a lot more and I know that when the time comes for us to let him go, he will let me know. We assume he’s about 15-20 now. We love him immensely. But we must respect nature too.

Thank you for sharing your story! I've had cats my whole life. I used to live in a trailer park. One of my neighbors used to let their cars out. Their one cat, Ghost, used to visit me. I'd put food out for him. One day, the neighbor told me he was moving, and asked me if I'd take Ghost. Sure, just bring him over before you move. He didn't. He moved and 10 days later, Ghost wandered into my yard! I took him in and kept him inside. I got him in 1997 and had him until 2011 when he passed away. My cat Sabrina passed away in 2019 at 17. My husband and I went to the kennel for another cat and a black and white tuxedo cat ran right up to me.
He bore a striking resemblance to Sabrina. We adopted him immediately and named him Shiloh. He's our baby...
