My mower is only 4 years old and it's blowing thick white smoke. I checked head gasket and was surprised that it is in good shape...next guess would be bad rings but could bad pcv valve cause this too?
@@rannz8 I'm thinking that might be my problem too, I have oil coming out of the pcv valve into the breather box. changed the reed and the head gasket which was in good condition and still have oil coming out which gets into the carb and shuts off the engine . any thoughts
@@mixingsacks check the oil if not over filled. You have too much air being pulled into the engine case which could mean bad rings, head gasket, or valve seals. You can get a piston leak tester at harbor freight for cheap to test if you need rings or head gasket (edit I seen you already did head gasket so that leaves rings and valve seals
@@rannz8 I actually before changing the head gasket drained the oil and repoured, just to the second dot on the dipstick..but I'll try that again. If I have bad rings or seals will the engine still run?
@@mixingsacks yes, if the rings are bad the compression would be low but would still run. You can find some "engine restorer and lubricant additive oil" at Walmart or a part stores for 12 bucks and run it in the oil or gas whichever it recommends and see it it fixes anything. sometimes its a permanent fix. 80 percent of the time it works. I've had success from it in the past
I am having to do this to a mower I used only 4 times and now cannot take back to Lowes. Poor quality parts?
What does a Reed Breather do exactly ? Releases pressure in the engine or something ?
