Thank you, thank you, thank you. I needed to remove the flywheel on my Cub Cadet CC30H to see if the woodruff key was sheared. I had been watching videos, including yours, on removing it. I purchased a puller kit online some time back, so I didn't think I'd need to use a prybar and hammer on it. Well, once I got to the flywheel I found out that the three holes to bolt into were not tapped! I wasn't ready to take that on so I thought that I'd give your technique a try. With just a little bit of leverage and one small tap, the flywheel popped right up!. I'd have probably never thought to try that if I hadn't seen your video. Thanks again.

I have used this method a lot but one engines e belonged to my uncle. It was a Kohler 12 hp I. A john Deere's garden tractor I put the prybar in place had pressure on the flywheel smacked it with a hammer like this guy and wala the end of the crank broke and fell off from that day forward I bought a flywheel tool and always used it if I had to remove a flywheel that little lesson cost me about 125 dollars for a new crankshaft for uncle's motor enough said a huge fail for me
I'm a firm believer in applying penetrating oil to these types of rusted assemblies. If time allows, I'll let them sit, them smack 'em with a hammer later. I think rear tires are the worst, when they get rusted onto an axle. But Taryl has an excellent way to remove those with a pneumatic driver with a pointed bit. THANKS TARYL!

Happy Thanksgiving. I've learned so much from you - thanx!!😊😊 btw at 6:45 time shouldn't one put a piece of wood on the Clutch " ears" when hitting it with a hammer?
Help! I have the same setup as in the second example at 3:20, but it's dug in there like an Alabama tick. Even tried using a three-leg gear puller. No amount of whacking and prying is working. Also drowned it in penetrating fluid. Any other suggestions? Seems virtually welded on. I don't have the genuine B&S puller, but I don't want to buy one as the fixing holes don't seem to be threaded. Can't see any threads, M5 bolt too big, M4 too small. Do B&S use a different size deep threaded design in their old classic/sprint/quattro engines?
I had the bolt threaded from the top kind. I was able to get off in around 10 mins after spending a lot of time trying everything else I could think of! Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the demo Taryl. The engine i have is a 28 year old B&S off a Snapper. The centre shaft screwed out so i used a socket in the centre and as you said, one good tap and the flywheel was off. The only problem is that previously hammering the hub that holds the drive disk off the drive end, one of the magnets in the flywheel came off. Not the end of the world, it was because of the detached magnet locking up the crankshaft that i had to get the flywheel off. All because of a failed sump gasket. Thanks again.
This video saved my bacon. I tried everything I could think of - multiple crowbars, flywheel puller, homemade puller, lots of penetrating oil - and then in desperation googled "How do I remove a flywheel from a B&S 24HP engine" and this video showed up. I've never had to remove a small engine flywheel, but if I ever do, I'm doing it Taryl's way with a prybar and a hammer. 🙂
THERE'SSS YOUR DINNERRRR...
Can I use the same method on motorcycle to pull out the magnet?
"There's your dinner" 😂 Never heard that one before.
I just popped one off a Briggs yesterday. It was stubborn, but a little PB Blaster, patience, prying and pounding...it popped off.
I laugh every time I watch your videos. Ha ha ha!
Great tips 👌👍
Saved a lot of folk a lot of stress. (And money) good on yer👍
Junior, Taryl's going off on his flywheel pulling rant again. Better get him another case of Hamm's to calm him down.
Very good video Taryl !! :)
Will this work for atvs
Works like a charm. Thanks!
Jergenstein can talk the flywheel off a crankshaft.
Why not put the socket on the bolt on the twin cylinder and smash the socket? saves the bolt from mushrooming?
Great video... so, what would cause your sheer pain to share off? All the time??
Excellent dinner Thankyou ,Taryl
3:09 why buy a knock-off tool when you can buy the real tool for the same price?😁
you're good sb......how many got it......
What a great resource.
I have a 14hp Wisconson and cannot get the flywheel off. I even tried the air chisel ... no go. Any ideas? I don't have a puller that will work.
What are your thoughts regarding oil in a pressure washer? Do you need to use a special oil or will regular detergent 30 weight be fine?
