I love how Jimmy/Saul didn't even care that the guy was running with the money, he was just really worried about Marco and prioritizing his friend instead of himself. I feel like that's such a redeeming quality for a character like Saul and makes me sympathize and root for him
@@BhBc8f8 "redeeming quality FOR a character like Saul" this is fiction bruh. "I always called you Charlie Hustle." Howard reminds Jimmy of this a lot, and I'm sure he's being sincere and above board about the compliment. But there is a dark underbelly in this compliment -- "Charlie Hustle" was famously the nickname of Pete Rose one of the great Major League baseball players of all time. Rose was a great player who made himself even greater because he played much harder than anyone else, never giving up on a play -- this is how he earned the nickname. After retirement he became a coach and manager in the league. Eventually it turned out that Rose had a gambling problem, and he was accused of betting on his own team -- obviously a conflict of interest for a manager who could conceivably make decisions that could alter the outcome of a game. It got him banned from the game and from the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. Later he actually ended up doing jail time for tax evasion. All in all, Pete Roses legacy went from being one of the greatest players in history to a shady figure known for succumbing to his vices, rejected by the organization that he was part of for his entire career. That is the legacy that Howard (almost certainly unintentionally) links to Jimmy by giving him the nickname Charlie Hustle.
Glad you two are delving into the finale. Breaking Bad is one of the greatest TV shows ever next to the Sopranos & others. While Better Call Saul is directly linked to the Breaking Bad universe & shares its DNA it is a different show in many ways. Breaking Bad is legendary & Better Call Saul might not have the recognition or notoriety of Breaking Bad it’s almost a better written & better executed show. It’s hard to explain. BB had more action & the writing, acting, etc was incredible but I’d argue that BCS is even more complex, more refined, more nuanced & more byzantine (in a good way) than BB. The way the makers crafted all the characters, their back stories, their relationships & the plot into a cohesive story related to BB that really sells the characters motivations, actions, etc is impeccable. It’s a slower burn with less action but I think they learned a lot from BB & it shows in BCS. You won’t fully understand or realize it until you watch the whole show. I think Pudgey & Spartan both hinted at noticing that Chuck was possibly a bit of a snake & not the self-righteous & perfect person he makes himself out to be. He is obviously smart & a talented lawyer but one of the first clues is how he reveres the law too much. He believes the law is sacred almost believes the law is intrinsically flawless. He only sees black & white & zero nuance though. He also thinks very highly of himself. Look at how ungrateful he is of Jimmy bending over backwards for him. Jimmy even believed in his condition for a while until he had to admit the truth that this was psychosomatic & a mental illness. Maybe it’s a big red flag?🙄 You have to watch the clues. The breadcrumbs, BB easter eggs & the little “clues” or hints they bake into the characters which show their motivations or traits is masterful. E.G. Chuck’s “condition” is also a big red flag. I was shocked you two were actually pretty shocked at Chuck ripping into Jimmy & belittling his law degree. You didn’t puck up on the seething resentment or condemnation he had for Jimmy. He is a staunch “people don’t change” type of person yet he has changed a lot from the once mighty HHM lawyer which holds his name in the firm’s lettering. He judges, admonishes & reproves Jimmy with disdain & condescension yet doesn’t turn the mirror at himself. You will learn how flawed he really is down the road without spoiling anything. In fact he is far more alike to Jimmy than he realizes or will admit. You will learn why he holds these feelings of ill will toward his own brother. Can’t wait to see you two react to the rest of the show. The way the writers really crafted this story into how all of these characters interact & make choices which leads to the paths they take which ties into Breaking Bad really is masterful.
