    Next to Lobster, Salmon are my favourite Ocean creature. Fished Atlantic Salmon (Scotland) seasonal, for many, many years before Farm Salmon and reduced numbers moved us along. Hugely enjoyable and pretty labour intensive like most if not all fishing.Those seals/Lions. so lovable, eh.
    Watched some of your excellent Halibut Fishery clips, some years ago worked in Canada, where I read/heard that they used 4-10 shotguns to kill/stun the huge Halibut they were trying to get into their punts on Grand Banks et al.

      The streams are managed carefully by Fish and Game, and subsistence, sport and commercial opportunities are adjusted as necessary to insure escapement goals are met. If a river system is struggling to meet the minimum escapement the areas around it are closed.

    Back in 77 we ran a gillnet out near where you are before the regular seining season began. We had subsistence licenses and just wanted some fish to eat. We caught 10 or 12 Reds. The mind plays tricks, but in my minds eye the fish we caught seemed bigger...like 10-12 lbs and all almost exactly the same size....those are Reds aren't they?

    • @EISAlaska

      Nice. The ones we caught this day were kind of small, we even had a few that slipped through the net. The previous day's were nicer and a few more males always makes a big difference.

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  4 роки тому +2

      Hi stickhillfarm. It depends on your neighbors. Some guys will say drop your net right off their end, others like a little space. That spot only holds about four nets, but 50 foot space is plenty if they are all on the boundary line. If you set perpendicular to the beach then a few hundred feet is probably good. Most guys are pretty laid back, and easy to get along with. Nothing like river fishing.
