I have a very leggy poinsettia that is very tall that I would like to try to save if I can. I’m reluctant to prune it because I’m pretty sure it’s going to kill it if I cut it way down. The stems at the bottom are gray not green. It doesn’t look healthy and it’s been neglected so I’m thinking I should start over with a new plant and try to do better or try using the top cuttings to make a new plant. I want to do a drastic pruning because it is so tall with tiny leaves at the top but I know that will most likely kill it. I’m going to try to save it but I don’t have a lot of hope. Thanks for your video.

Well sometimes we kill plants & that is part of gardening experience & we can use them as lessons learned. As u described that the btm is gray, try to squeeze it & if really soft then it is in the dying stage. Try to prune it to the height u want, then use as cuttings. Monitor if it still recover if not then start all over again. Let me know & enjoy gardening...
