Interesting project. The Witcher 1 is my most favourite from the series because it's closest to the books imo. One of the best things about the game is atmosphere and you kinda ruined it with the soundtrack from The Witcher 3. Why not use soundtrack that plays in Temple Quarter? Also the whole quarter feels gloomy and gritty because of the weather so it's a shame that you used this sunny scene. Don't get me wrong I don't want to seem like a hater. I'm glad that The Witcher 1 is getting the love and attention that it deserves. I just roll my eyes everytime when I see someone mentioning remake of The Witcher 1. First of all it's a damn good game and people are just spoiled by modern games so they're put of by "janky" controls. Also, you can ruin that great atmosphere really easily if you're not careful and you don't know what made the game great in the first place. I think that capturing the magic of the first game would be extremely hard.

The ambient light is too warm, in northern climates everything is more blue because of the angle at which the sunshine enters the atmosphere and because of cloud coverage. Right now this looks like a desert and the bloom filter doesn't help. Best to save bloom filters for indoor environments and then only if there is a fire. The shadows are too dim or possibly the scene lacks ambient occlusion. In particular noticeable under the overhang. Some areas there should be pitch dark. The mist in the scene doesn't fit because mist is actually water vapor and the scene looks very dry. The mist right now looks like dust, but not dust that is moving with the wind but just hanging there which is very unrealistic. And finally the models are simple models with tiling textures, in substance painter it would be possible to add grit and variety to the walls, but it's understandable you wouldn't want to waste too much time on something like this. This just needs tweaked post processing, even professionals fail to understand how to get believable color and light in their games.

It's mindblowing for a Witcher 1 fan to see this environment recreated with this fascinating graphics. There are some modder guys on Nexusmods who managed to solve the problem of creating new content in The Witcher 3, so technically it is possible to remaster whole chapters from TW1. Can these assets created by you in Unity engine be imported into Red engine for modding purposes? If your work could be used in a TW1 remaster, it would be a significant help for modders because the slum of Vizima is a considerable part of the Temple quarter. I understand that you're not a modder but your work could be of great use for the modding community and your awesome work wouldn't remain just a spectacular showcase. It's insane that you alone were able to create a whole part of the town in a month! So is it possible to use this stuff in TW3 modding? Thanks a lot, and keep up the good work!
It's awesome to hear that you enjoyed the video :D I hadn't heard that they managed to create new content for the TW3, the fact that they have done that is amazing, can't wait to see what types of mods end up coming out. For helping in an actual TW1 recreation my models would likely import into the red engine perfectly fine, however, the model performance isn't the best due to cutting a lot of corners (this was the main reason to why I was able to finish this project so quickly), although, if I end up fixing them up later on, I'll be sure to share the files with those involved in the recreation :)
Hi Sketch, great job indeed! However, talking about reality, in quasi-medieval times, in such an environment, poor suburbs I mean, most of the buildings would be made of wood, and covered with shingles, as bricks and roof tiles were very expensive. Your work wouldn't look as spectacular, as it does, though :-)
13:01 Oblivion be like :D But great project btw. Really hit hard seeing witcher 1 in this quality... like for real I almost started to cry during the cinematic... Great job man
Dude this is awesome!!! I never thought, that a single person could create this! Of course it would be very cool if you could recreate Kaer Morhen in the same way, but that would incloud much skybox painting and other things for the mountains! Anyway: A brilliant video!
Impressive. Though if a project with minimal code and size crashes THAT often I dare not imagine how a big more complex one could be developed in HDRP ! Been about a year & a half since so maybe it's more stable now idk but I don't want to port everything just for later to be met with many unexpected roadblocks :(
5:35 So that’s what that was! I noticed that textures had a 3D look to them in some games awhile back and wondered what kind of witchcraft managed that. So cool!
Don't let those "slum" people fool you, they hawe machicolations on the inside of their walls and every window is a glass window, they are obviously filty rich.
well... i dont know witcher but maybe there is more important part of town on the other side of wall. also not just glass but all brick houses instead of mud-hay mixture as white facade or simply wood house as for more poor buildings. also when house is made out of bricks you dont need wooden parts on the outside of the house like here
This video really confuses me. Kudos to you, it looks amazing, but I think I wouldn't prefer this to original witcher. Maybe it's the art direction, overcast weather, old mossy houses, and the grim atmosphere. Geralt's face was great too, not menacing and handsome like the second and the third game but a mutant freak that you should fear.
I think Geralt's face in Witcher 2 is pretty much closest to the book Geralt.. in Witcher 1 he's too, well ugly (in the books Geralt is the only one who calls his smile "ugly", most women find him attractive in the books, even so that Yenn has problems with the way some of her "friends" are looking at him) and in Witcher 3 he is too much "model" looking, too soft.. Witcher 2 is in my opinion almost perfect how would book Geralt look like
Just to echo some of the other comments, excellent work as always Sketch and I liked the presentation style of this one, and you certainly captured the look and feel to a very high standard. I would be very interested in seeing how you recreate the dark, forboding atmosphere of the original Quake 1 from 1996. I imagine you could do a lot more (creatively) with the non-"base" maps but it would be amazing to see what you could do. Keep up the good work Kind regards QV
@@sketch3436 You are more than welcome. If it's of any inspiration, there was a channel that did the very first room on first map in the first episode (e1m1) ua-cam.com/video/QjJx7BqV6Yo/v-deo.html a few years ago. In that case it was in Unreal but it would be fascinating to see what's possible in Unity. If there's any way I can help from a Quake perspective please let me know. Kind regards QV
@@QuakeVoid Cool video, for mine I would like to implement a character controller simpler to the original game so when your viewing the scene it just feels like your playing a remastered version :)
@@sketch3436 That genuinely sounds great. A remastered Quake 1 from someone like yourself who really knows what they are doing, would almost be a Nirvana to a lot of old Quake Players like me. I have tried to do this myself in Unity but find I keep running out of either free time or expertise. If you do fancy having a go at this please let me know as there is still a small but dedicated Quake 1 community (incl mappers, modellers and graphic artists) out there in the dark old crumbly recesses of the internet and I'm sure they would like to see your work. :) Re the character controller, with a bit of tweaking even the standard Unity character controlling isn't a million miles away from the proper Quake Player, and once you've toned the "jump" down a bit it certainly was more than good enough for a level walk-around demo. Kind regards QV
5:46 WHY! i was really hooked on your explanations. i came here to see someone build the witcher one. but your tutoring is so good and it's the first time i really understood it :D great job guy!
Looks cool but everything's too clean, pristine, and 'fairy-tale-like'. The location is called "Slums" for a reason; putting some logs and broken barrels here and there doesn't convey the dark and gloomy 'feel' of the original one. It's meant to be an area of poor people and small thieves; you've got prostitutes offering their services in here. Some of those people live in houses that will most likely collapse in a few years. You've managed to recreate the layout of the place but failed to maintain the atmosphere of this unwelcoming, wet, and rotting area. Throughout the whole video, I waited for you to apply some lighting filter and change the skybox but it never happened - would have really helped. It feels more like Kingdom Come Deliverance with its bright colour palette than The Witcher 1. Not saying that it's not an impressive job done here, but I thought I would leave some criticism to perhaps help with future projects.
I created click bait* far from what the title says, looks nice but not even close to realistic and also is not witcher 1 recreated, a more accurate title would be "I recreated a very small part of the witcher 1 with better graphics"
SKETCH: I know UA-cam doesn't reward you as well as it should for your efforts, but just know that I can see how much effort and time went into this. It's truly epic. Nice work
well machicolation are nicely made but why they face the city and not the outside of walls? this looks like incredibly rich slum with all those very nice stone and brick houses not to mention wooden beams on such houses are not needed.
Hi Sketch, great idea, and the video! You put a big amount of work, but one of the main factors of the Witcher 1 was the dark atmosphere, especially in this area, it always rainy and wanly. I feel that your environment needs more grey and dark textures, a rainy sky, and more mud because now it looks too warm, polished and reminds me of some western games.
Great work man ! CDPR needs to look at this. Also, they should definitely remake the Witcher 1 and 2 with some extra content. It'll sell like crazy for sure.

@@quint3ssent1a oh I didn't know this was supposed to be a secret, I found about this in my first playtrough, I found fisstech (if that's how you spell it) in his house and geralt said it was weird, at this point I knew something was wrong, I don't remember exactly what I did next but I was the one to lure him to a trap
@@cronicas_imemoriais well, there are several clues that something is wrong (wolf medallion detecting magic, for example), but to expose Azar for real you need either successful autopsy or corpse of real Raimond.
@@quint3ssent1a now I remember, I bought and read a book about autopsies, so that's probably what lead me to discovering him
It's mindblowing for a Witcher 1 fan to see this environment recreated with this fascinating graphics.
It's awesome to hear that you enjoyed the video :D
I hadn't heard that they managed to create new content for the TW3, the fact that they have done that is amazing, can't wait to see what types of mods end up coming out.
Just incredible!
Thanks :D
The Witcher 1, 2 and 3 were all marvelous experiences to me and this video touched my heart really hard
Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it
13:01 Oblivion be like :D
But great project btw. Really hit hard seeing witcher 1 in this quality... like for real I almost started to cry during the cinematic... Great job man
Now do the whole world. /s
and the other 99% of the game
This is fantastic, I played w1 a lot and I can recognize every building in your remake. Amazing job!
This man really searched for Google on Google, I love it
This is really cool to see! And great job on the modelling!
Wow the algorithm is actually recommending good content?
This video is amazing. And There's a lot of work when into creating this. Great job!
Omg it looks very great!
But I can't play it in quarantine because my laptop's battery is 💀 and no shop is open for replacement 😭
That sucks, hopefully you're able to fix your laptop soon :)
just have it plugged into the wall or something, since its just the battery
@@itpugil Some laptops won't let the GPU and CPU use their full power even on mains power without the battery inserted.. Sucks terribly!
@@MichalKobuszewski but those models are the minority though. Still hope the dude can still get to play it. The witcher games are amazing.
Dude this is awesome!!! I never thought, that a single person could create this! Of course it would be very cool if you could recreate Kaer Morhen in the same way, but that would incloud much skybox painting and other things for the mountains! Anyway: A brilliant video!
Hey man! What are some resources/tutorials you recommend for getting started with 3D modeling?
I would recommend Blender Guru his tutorials are really good and easy to follow:
ua-cam.com/users/AndrewPPrice
try google.com and youtube.com, they have a "search" function. You can google how to use google if you only starting out.
Impressive. Though if a project with minimal code and size crashes THAT often I dare not imagine how a big more complex one could be developed in HDRP !
Been about a year & a half since so maybe it's more stable now idk but I don't want to port everything just for later to be met with many unexpected roadblocks :(
You're actually insane
Thanks :D
5:35 So that’s what that was! I noticed that textures had a 3D look to them in some games awhile back and wondered what kind of witchcraft managed that. So cool!
Don't let those "slum" people fool you, they hawe machicolations on the inside of their walls and every window is a glass window, they are obviously filty rich.
well... i dont know witcher but maybe there is more important part of town on the other side of wall. also not just glass but all brick houses instead of mud-hay mixture as white facade or simply wood house as for more poor buildings. also when house is made out of bricks you dont need wooden parts on the outside of the house like here
Kudos to you man i really liked the end result. Downloaded and looked myself it looks pretty sweet.
I watch this everyday at 7am to 7pm for my personal wellbeing
Awesome work! I love The Witcher I with all my heart and this video inspired me to play the game again. Thanks a lot!
Witcher 2 is in my opinion almost perfect how would book Geralt look like
Awesome Video! You deserve way more likes!
I've got allergies and I've always been scared that I would suffocate if someone tried to duct tape my mouth. Maybe a more common fear than I thought?
Haha, yeah that's basically how the thought got into my head cause I always have a blocked nose cause of hay fever :(
Just to echo some of the other comments, excellent work as always Sketch and I liked the presentation style of this one, and you certainly captured the look and feel to a very high standard. I would be very interested in seeing how you recreate the dark, forboding atmosphere of the original Quake 1 from 1996. I imagine you could do a lot more (creatively) with the non-"base" maps but it would be amazing to see what you could do. Keep up the good work
Kind regards
QV
Thanks, I really appreciate it! Quake would be a good one, it would be cool to see it with detailed meshes and without the blockiness
Kind regards
QV
Re the character controller, with a bit of tweaking even the standard Unity character controlling isn't a million miles away from the proper Quake Player, and once you've toned the "jump" down a bit it certainly was more than good enough for a level walk-around demo.
Kind regards

Cdprojekt red now hire this guy immediately
5:46 WHY! i was really hooked on your explanations. i came here to see someone build the witcher one. but your tutoring is so good and it's the first time i really understood it :D
great job guy!
Top man, great quality looking forward to your more in depth look into this project
Thanks :D
FIRST
ok this is brilliant. amazing work, mate.
I created click bait*
far from what the title says, looks nice but not even close to realistic and also is not witcher 1 recreated, a more accurate title would be "I recreated a very small part of the witcher 1 with better graphics"
Oh man, they're finally remaking this for real!
I never knew that I'd learn so much from this. I thought you'll just flex your skills just like the others. Imma subscribe
Very nice detail: the White Wolf wine from Corvo Bianco! :) Great video, thanks!
Man, so many great quests down there in the slums.
Great choice!
you are an absolute genius! i'm blown away.
Good job mate!really cool your work!!!! Hope you keep it up!
dude keep working on this this is amazing great work hope to see more
Hi Sketch, great idea, and the video!
This is amazing! It felt familiar but now looking better.
Dude.. That looks awsome! 😀 Fantastic work! 🔥🔥 I hit the subscribe button, cheers! 🍻
Great work man ! CDPR needs to look at this. Also, they should definitely remake the Witcher 1 and 2 with some extra content. It'll sell like crazy for sure.
