Oh my gosh! Genius. Mine already had one slot in the right place on the front cap so I made another one just like you did. Worked great. Nay sayers are silly: there was already a slot and now there are two on mine. Thank you!!!!
This idea was my thoughs yesterday, thanks for confirming that it works. Some are concerned that dust etc will get into the holes, i will put a small piece of tape over the holes and smear clear roof and gutter silicone over it. 💪👍
There are some very good adhesives on the market that you can put in that channel that will keep it in place. That’s what I’m gonna do and put a piece of tape over it until the adhesive cures.
I DON'T UNDERSTAND SORRY. WHERE EXACTLY DO YOU DRILL THE 2 HOLES AND WHY? MAYBE I'M DUMB BUT A STEP BY STEP BREAKDOWN OF WHAT TO DO WOULD BE REALLY HELPFUL. THANK YOU.
He meant that he cut two channels instead of taking the end caps off. The way the dealer does it, they have to drill out the rivets then take the caps off. There’s videos on how to do it that way too. If you cut grooves into the end caps that will save time but I would try to tape it up or something because debris can get in there and might damage something else. I might save the pieces of metal that I cut off so I can use quick steel or some type of putty to reattach after I’m done.
👍 You might find somebody that is a bit more DIY savvy to help you out with this project. The holes have to be drilled in line with the channels that the fabric slides into. It would also be wise to use a file and or sandpaper to smooth out any sharp or rough edges. Hopefully this helps out their friend.
before asking for a full step by step, remove the caps... that's consider aggressive. the guy doesn't have to show you anything, so better ask nicely and he might help you out.
Absolutely brilliant sir.

Saved us So much time! And no rivet gun needed 👍🏻
Thanks for sharing this. I’m getting ready to do mine and was thinking about doing that. How do you put the top piece in? Do all 3 at the same time?
I like it. My end caps are white, so after I'm done doing it this way, I will use white silicone to fill in the holes and notches. Thank you for this.
Amazing what happens when you can think outside the box
Genius...👀👍
Freaking brilliant
It's only dumb if it doesn't work, I might try it with mine, thanks for the heads up
I wish I knew that yesterday
Did the same thing years ago. Replaced it by myself that sucked
I’m giving this a try! What did you do at the top?
What do u mean ?
@@randallhorres4213he is asking you how did you get all 3 in the channels at the same time.
Nice
Did you do anything to keep the awning from moving on the tube

There is one already done to slip the screen in or accessories. Just look at it.
And now water and debris gets inside the springs and retraction unit and my awning stopped working after a few seasons.
Worth it!
I see your point, but I like his method. I'd only add silicone when done.

👍
was the end cap metal
Yeah it was
@@randallhorres4213 ok thanks so i can this done
@@randallhorres4213 what drill bits and size and tools you needed .. to get the job done...
They are aluminum
Just did mine today using your idea! Thank You!!!
Worked, BUT, it looks like it has been butchered!!
who gives a crap ? he did it on an OLD TOY HAULER he got for cheap on facebook .
Put some caulk in them or touch up paint. In a few months it will look like the rest anyway.
