Raw meat you buy from your local butcher. Never buy dry food for older pets. Wet food will always be a better option but if you want your pets to live a longer life raw meat. As for brands can food that's a bit more complicated because of their lack of nutrients and toxins. But every brand you see on this video is not recommended.
After some research it's a lot more complicated. Safe food for pets is good but lack nutrients. Dry food will never be Bobby approved. Wet food will be approved but lack nutrients. The best you can do is feed your pets raw organ food but that's costly.
I had a cat named "Cookie". While she mostly ate regular cat food when she was spry, when she got older, we tried to get more healthier foods. Dried and canned. We also served her some chicken hearts every now and then. She passed away when she was 19, almost 20. As my Dad has mentioned before, that as far as cats go, "She's the best cat you could ask for!" And I agree! 😊👍❤️🐈🐾
Studying pet food and the industry for the last 2 plus years for my animals actually led me to you Bobby for my own health. So glad you feel the same way about your pets. They need a species appropriate diet and every pet parent should learn how to read a pet food label!❤
I have a Bichon/Silky. She’s a year old. We feed her straight raw meat and veggies from the store. We supplement her food with vitamins and omega supplements. She is strictly grain and gluten free. No 💉💉 after the initial ones the breeder gave before we adopted her. She’s also fully intact. I believe the food, the shots and the vet is what shortens their lives!
Ah yes, my type of video 😎 I work in a pet store as a food nutritionist and this is my number one cringe is when people buy grocery food. There are so many other options for good grocery brands!
@@christinebarone2829 Some are grocery, some are pet store items or things you could find online! Wellness Core, Merrick, Tiki, Weruva, Acana, Orijen, Halo, Fromm, Diamond Naturals, Natural Balance, NurtiSource, Earthborn, Victor, Stella and Chewy, Against the Grain, Evangers, Nulo, Dr. Marty, Zignature, Open Farm, Nature’s Logic, Ziwi, Fussie Cat, Instinct, Honest Kitchen, and Taste of the Wild to name a few. Most major pet store’s also have their own store brands of food and many are comparable to a lot of great foods, but at a lower cost. Read the ingredients and never be afraid to ask questions about their food to your local pet store. Most vets recommend foods that have corn and chicken by product meal like Royal Canin, ProPlan, Science Diet, Purina, Iams, etc. Just because the food is expensive, doesn’t mean it’s good quality. Always read the ingredients!
Most of us should know this by now. I have an 18-year old cat that will only eat the junky Friskies brand. I tried every healthy pet food around ... And he refuses it. He almost starved to death before I caught on to the junk food thing.
I had a Sheltie that lived to be 2 months shy of 17 which is good for a Sheltie and she ate Purina Moist Burger. Go figure! (She died from an inoperable nasal tumor. Maybe she would have lived longer on a better quality dog food.) I wouldn’t feed that to my dog now especially knowing what’s in it.
What about cat food? The brand he showed looks like the one I sometimes buy. I'll usually get the beyond arctic char or salmon. We also get the Wellness brand.
As a dog nutritionist. Try better options like Farmina Open farm Stella and chewys Natures logic! All these brands are a LOT better and not that expensive!
Quality pet foods contain less preservatives and additives. All pet foods are made from by products of human meat processing plants. Most using lungs, spleen, liver and kidneys. Whole meats are rarely used. Pet food labels are made to appeal to owners suggesting they are gourmet meals for animals.
I tried doing this for my kitty. She just hates the expensive/ ‘real’ cat foods. I’ve tried the proteins filled ones and she just doesn’t like them. Oh well, it’s better on my wallet -getting her the cheap stuff. Now that she loves.
Bobby it would be good for you to learn about human/food grade pet food versus feed grade. The can you picked up is still feed grade and still has poor quality ingredients. Truth about pet food and Susan Thixtons "the list" will help you a bunch 🤙
i stopped buying "cat/dog food" for my pets, i just buy organ meat in bulk and sometimes fish at the wet market when i can get a good deal, then i'll add maybe rice or sweet potatoes and some greens. much cheaper than pellets and the canned stuff.
What about dry kibble? What do you recommend, grain free or grain, and which brand do you recommend to be the healthiest for a senior dog that needs to lose weight? Thanks Bobby!
Our vet was at a regional conference where they warned about grain free pet food. They found the cats and dogs developed heart issues. But once the grain free food was stopped, they improved. I took his word for it as he's a caring and extremely professional and intelligent man and haven't bought grain free ever since. I also make sure the food is AAFCO approved as per his recommendation. But tbh, I know all these store bought foods are awful. I just can't afford the really good stuff. Hard to know what's best. You feel guilty because you are responsible for them.
For a senior dog, look for dog food bags that say either: 7+, senior, weight management, healthy mobility, or any dog food with glucosamine. If you want to feed grains, you can, but I recommend whole grains like brown rice, oatmeal, or quinoa.
When I lived in Hilo Hawaii I always bought health food dog chow heated it up and slwaysvpuredvflax seed on it My beautiful rescue lived t 18 Rip my beautiful fabulous furry friend We always took long walks He kept me slim Best male ever had in my life also previous one Miss them so much😢🎉😊
I remember seeing the same thing in the grocery stores. I hadn't seen a single Bobby video at the time, but the ingredients list was so odious that an untrained nutrition noob like myself took notice. Another favorite tactic is to make the ingredients list so small and illegible that you can't read it, particularly at a grocery store. There are a few exceptions. I found a whole foods brand whose ingredients list didn't scare me on the first read.
That's why i Order my Petfood by a Tiny brand that uses Butcher Meats adds great and Gut, Health supporting Oils and Super foods. She never had and has any problems with her gut wich shows how much better it is. Also i sometimes Cook for her
yeah! where? so my dog is allergic to chicken . I know crazy. Her skin gets inflamed and her fur will fall off small amounts but when I did t know she had little ball spots. I was told duck is better? idk. she also has environmental allergies. I guess like pollen cut grass. so it's hard for me to find good treats. any ideas? thank you.
Have you tried fish based foods? There’s also beef, lamb, rabbit, turkey, venison, pork, etc and yes duck is similar to chicken, but sometimes you can be allergic to one and not the other, so it doesn’t hurt to try!
I dont have dog but we fo.have cats for years maby many of them thry died old age noe we have two onrbif them old the other young & all our cats homeless kittens
If you have a cat, Orijen is my favorite dry cat food to buy. Their ingredients are raw whole foods with no artificial coloring or byproducts. For wet food, it’s hard to get a cat to switch to a different brand but make sure it has no carrageenan!
This is so sad 😭 the poison is killing us and our pets Shame on the FDA seriously 😳 thank you Bobby 😊

I just saw a video where the oldest dog who is 30 has never been fed dog food only human food. Still alive living in Portugal and looks great

I feed my dogs chicken and rice with some vegetables twice a day. The rice is cheap and i go to aldis for the chicken.
Also buy veggies in bulk. I got 3 10-15 lb dogs and i spend about 40-50 a month on them.

My cat and dog loves costco food.
