I disagree with his assessment of the Jeep Renegade. Like he said at the end of the video, " it comes down to personal priorities" -- in which his "priorities" are about boredom! For me? My priorities were based on specific needs. 1- 4x4 capabilities for Northern Michigan winters. 2- sub compact SUV (not a car) 3- daily winter commuter. 4- better gas mileage than my Jeep JK. The Renegade met all this and more. The ride quality is far better than nearly all reviews I have read, and the winter package was a huge bonus! Heated seats, steering wheel, rain sensor wipers, heated mirrors, and remote start. After working a 12 hour shift while it was snowing all day accumulating 12" of snow-- would you rather have the Honda sitting in the parking lot waiting to get you home or the Jeep? I also got this for far less than his outlandish quote of 33k? Add $2 k to my price and I now have lifetime bumper to bumper warranty. For those on the edge of a decision, I would suggest a test drive to see for yourself that many of their findings won't match yours!
Thanks for sharing! These reviews never seem to touch on how the vehicles perform in winter (some of us have to drive to work/home through lake effect snow)
Great point. I watched dozens of Renegade videos on UA-cam and I have grown tired of reviewers talking about "not fun". I don't buy Jeeps as toys. I need to get thru 10" of Minneapolis snow and potholed streets in the spring.
Agreed! And even for me, a city-living -lovingthe -outdoorstrips person...renegade just is the only option! Personality etc and also the price. Not sure how it goes worldwide, but I just couldn't find any other brand giving me a decent price for these cars, even not during the autosalon, which gives extra's for free etc...Nope Jeep Renegade just did it for me! Only drawback...have to wait until 16th of april :P
Man... if the CX-3 had more rear seat room, more cargo area, and magic seats similar to of a Honda's, it would've won every single subcompact SUV comparison.
+buildmorefarms100 They may be boring, but they're so damn practical! I test drove the Mazda CX-3, Subaru Crosstrek & the Chevy Trax. The CX-3 was more fun to drive then the lot, but the seats are too damn narrow & there is no cargo room @ all. I purchased the HR-V EX-L w/ Navi & I really like it overall. Yeah...The engine is semi-gutless but once you get it on the highway, it's fine. Great fuel consumption & I love the interior (again...some might find it boring) All-in-all it's works for me. I do love the styling of the Fiat, just that it's terrible reliability record it has.
I test drove almost all of these and bought the CX-3. The HR-V was weak with the old 1.8 Civic engine and the CVT transmission just makes it even weaker. CX-3 AWD Touring with premium package is a $25K car worth every penny.
Just got CX3 yesterday after a lot of thinking and research. Overall it is a great option if you want a crossover with good fuel economy. Yes There are some cons but keeping in mind the price and the fuel economy, it's definitely a 'Go for it' option.
@@milosss1989 for city drive, it's better than jeep for me LOL. jeep renegade is slow and the transmission is unreliable. it's not consistent. based on my experience lol
+Sleepy Panda I agree. The U.S. EPA defines subcompact as no more than 165 inches in length, so technically, the Outlander sport at 169 inches shouldn't be included.
Still running my 2016 Renegade Trailhawk in the Pacific Northwest. We're loving this Jeep in this winter storm. Great rig for all weather conditions and terrain.
It just blows my mind how Mitsubishi didn't offer Outlander Sport with 2.0T with dual clutch... I have it for 5 years now, in diesel version with 150hp, and the only thing i have changed for 100k miles are the brake pads (twice)! It really is a great vehicle, with some minor stupid things, like low quality plastics and paint.
I Go for the JUKE...1.6 CVT TURBO CHARGE..is the most powerful engine nd segment compact crossover,..unique and stylish design, whch r not common in d street...
+AutoGuide.com. So The Crosstrek is to Big to be a Sub compact crossover and too small to be in the compact segment. Yet most people think it's Just the right size. Come on car journalist. Let's get the Crosstrek out of limbo. Despite it's category. It will always make the short list.
I would have to agree with the review after I've tested one myself, the Honda HRV seems to fit as the best compact SUV just lacking a little power (though there is something charming about the Kia Soul and Jeep Renegade). As I'm shopping for one next year, I'd really like Honda to put in the new turbo motor they have in the Civic (without the CVT!) into the HRV to give it a little motor umph...
9th gear in both Renegade and 500X wasn't designed for slow US highways. It engages around 80 which is a common highway speed limit in many parts of the world.
The gears are being used properly in the Renegade. They have been tuned to European standards, and trust me, because we all drive manuals, we know what a good transmission is.
Based on the vehicles' front fascia: Modern = CX3 Quirky = Juke & 500X Masculine = Outlander Sport Rugged = Renegade Conservative = Trax Feminine = HRV
Time for the Juke to get refreshed. Can't wait for the next gen model in a couple of years which should correct and addressed all of the knocks against it.
They had to get one car slightly... wrong for lack of a better word. The CRV is miles better than the HRV. So if you have had a chance with the CRV, yo probably will not like the HRV
I don't get this segment. Why would you want a subcompact SUV? Its basically just a taller hatchback car is most cases with worse fuel economy. The HRV is just a taller Fit, why not just get the Fit? I think its more attractive anyway and you get 41 MPG hwy. The only car I would consider in this segment is the Renegade, however it is overpriced IMO.
Whitney B when you getting older, crawl in and climbing out is no fun! Hrv gives that option of just slide your butt in and out. ☺ BTW I own both of them, so I know the feeling.
i like the renegade desert hawk more if they only turbo charged that 2.4 l tiger shark motor like the srt4 like the caliber or older neon it would be a beast
Mike Molcule I just traded my 2015 Patriot and bought a Renegade. I have only had it for a few days but I love it. Also my insurance went down $170 because the Renegades safety scores are higher.
The winners here to me are 500X and CX3. They have the best styling and interior. Renegade has lots of personality too, but is a little bit too gimmicky to appear serious. Hrv is a good car but just looks boring, just like its interior. It literally has no personality. I mean thus segment is all about style and personality, and for that, 500X wins.
We got a new Subaru premium with all the things you speak, of, minus the map crap. 25k. About 2-4k below MSRP. The car that should be in this test is the Impreza Outback. Really has the same or better space than most of these cars and at least better ground clearance than the Chevy. It would likely win the test. If the Mitsu could be had for under 22 grand, I think it would be the best value.
Not sure I understand the practicality of the HR-V when you can get the bigger CR-V with an engine that can deal with the Honda CVT. I guess maybe in the base level trim for price. Too bad the AWD isn't offered with a the manual. I enjoy driving, so the CX-3 was a no brainer for me, with a six speed automatic. If I need practicality I'd have gone with a bigger crossover like the CX-5/HR-V/RAV-4.

Anshul Dhawaria I know huh. Might as well save money and get more space in the regular hatchback. is it the Mazda 3 ?
I am about to buy the new Mazda CX 3 2017
Any suggestions
in philippines its expensive crossing the base model mux
Style wise, NO other vehicle here is even on the same planet as the CX-3. INCREDIBLY beautiful!

Hey I'm from the future and theres something called the Hyundai Kona lol
Also Kia Sportage, Toyota C-HR, etc

With discounts the mitsubishi can be had for far less than all the rest and at that point is the winner to me.
renegade is the best.. it does have a awsome handling.. even than the wrangler. coz i have both
The Wranglers handling is known for being absolutely terrible, so thats not saying much. The infamous "Jeep wobble".
Trailhawk will get you out of snow, sleet and mud....all the rest if for play...

I definitely would take the Jeep Renegade over all others
The Kia Niro could have been a competitor now too if this test would have been done this year
put the turbo 4cyl engine that was used in the Acura RDX into the HRV and you'd have an awesome vehicle
Apparently everyone hates how the Juke looks but I personally can't stand the Fiat 500X's styling it's by far the ugliest in this segment
Not sure I understand the practicality of the HR-V when you can get the bigger CR-V with an engine that can deal with the Honda CVT. I guess maybe in the base level trim for price. Wait a subcompact crossover is at least 170 inches or less (0:23)? So they have to be exactly 170 inches?
the mini is that so idk
what about the new vitara?
Leave out the Crosstrek?
Only one comes with a manual and has AWD, and so only one matters to me. I wish more of them would offer that.
If the Juke was like a smaller Rogue, perhaps the size of the HRV inside, it would be a better contender.
So you added at a juke but no Subaru crosstrek which is the top selling crossover...

HR-V for my needs.

what about the Tiguan
That Juke has the ugliest colors. I hate all Jukes, maybe the Nismo one is an exception.

Chevy really took a step back a couple of years when it came to the Trax's styling. It just doesn't fit in with the rest of Chevy's line up since they're either coming out with all-newly designed models, or freshened versions. They could have done so much better.
I Still like it
Do NOT buy the Renegade!!!! We have replaced the transmission 3 times now and it still doesn't shift right. Buy anything else.
