Keep the faith that you will get through this. My prayers to you all. I had an experience of a very painful perianal abcess when I was very young and now my new husband has a horrible one he just finished surgery and it is very big. His adoptive parents never took him to doctor when he was 14 and now he's 32. A long time to have this and it got so bad. Long road to recovery. Very painful. My heart goes out to all.
I'm Dr Jwala Jayaram, I would like to add that a technique similar to Seton therapy is used in Ayurveda called "Ksharasutra therapy" where a medicated thread is used instead of a simple Seton. It has been found to have very few chances of recurrence. And there is no chances of incontinence.
My surgeon said nothing can be done, because of all the scar tissue, etc. from first inside ileostomy, followed years later with full ileostomy. I am my advanced age and other serious conditions added to his decision. He just told me to keep taking the flagyl med I'm on, press on abscesses to help them drain, and get to hospital fast if abscess blocks urine. He doesn't seem to care, really. The abscesses are in the cheeks of the buttocks, and they drain light red blood mostly......very uncomfortable. I worry about blood clots, sepsis, and cancer. Would like your thoughts on the matter, please.

I just had my operation a week ago. the doc said it is a low fistula. I only saw a big hole in anus.....I hope that I wont have any more of this type of surgery...... Do you know before hand that you need multiple surgeries?
No I never know that I will need multiple surgeries but just few days after my first surgery I have same pain & symptom as before and I have MRI right away and very clear showing that I need another surgery so on and on till I reach surgery no 4 so far, perianal abscess & fistula well known one of most hard and complicated treatment
hope u recover soon, it is really a nightmare....I did not get an MRI, the doc said it is single intersphincteric tract and he did not have to cut any of the external sphincter muscle.... hope he is right.....
Kc12345 @ I think your is different than mine, my fistula is high it is very hard to reach and see even with CT scan that why I have MRI, your low fistula bit easy to see by doctor hope you have right procedure as many case fistula treatment can be very complicated and thank you for your kind support god bless you
Doc.. I think, A had a Fistola. Until now, I'm afraid to talk to my parents about it.. Cause they already know that it's already healed. I had already took a surgery when i was a Baby but sad to say that until now at this age of 19. I'm afraid to took a physical exam because of my course of seafarers I'm afraid if, i couldn't pass the physical exam. 😭😭😭.. I'm First year college right now and I'm afraid ... 😭😭😭
I had an operation to drain the abscess and they placed a seton to drain all the proctitis which took several months! I’ve had an MRI which shows it’s a low intersphisteric fistula and and an endoscopy shows I have no crohns or diverticulitis, My fistula healed by itself and closed around the seton over a year, eventually the muscle growing back the tunnel became too narrow and the seton snapped, after a month or two the area closed leaving a cable tunnel which I can feel under the skin, no solids would pass but maybe sometimes liquid and not faeces but now only occasionally I will see liquid stain not necessarily drain from the area, I make sure after each bowel movement I clean the inside of my rectum with wipes so the area doesn’t get infected, and because it’s so hollow on the right side maybe due to an operation I had it’s like all the muscles are rebuilding in that area so I’m very careful to not put pressure when I open my bowels and since it’s hollow I have to make sure I assist that part of my rectum with limited rectal muscles. So my question is do I need to have another operation? Or will this heal over eventually? My problem isn’t that the tract is long it’s like 2cm but the hollowness inside my rectum is even bigger
