I have a dear friend who has just found out she has rectal cancer. She had constipation following following a surgery she had earlier this year, and then soon after that she thought she had a hemorrhoid. When she went to the doctor in the Spring and told them about the hemorrhoid, they just said that that's very typical after a surgery, from the constipation, and didn't do an inspection. When she went back for a physical recently, she told the doctor that she thought the hemorrhoid was prolapsed. As soon as the doctor examined it, they knew it wasn't a hemorrhoid and immediately referred my friend colorectal specialist. The specialist confirmed that it looked like cancer and the colonoscopy that followed showed it was inside the rectum. She still hasn't gotten the staging yet because the insurance company is taking their sweet time to approve the necessary imagining, but I can only imagine how much better things would be had her primary care provider just examined it in the Spring. I've been having digestive issues since I was 10 and that's when I got my first hemorrhoids. My parents were concerned because they thought somebody was doing bad things to me. The change in diet really safed me. If you have problems / symptoms really get checked out! And if they persist, dont just take meds and hope it gets better this way (most often you only treat symptoms and not the root of the problem, which is a problem), go to a dietitian and get professional help! No meds, no side effects! But take your meds obviously if you need them. Changing your diet is just one really good way of reducing or eliminating the need for medication!
Anatomy and Physiology! Most people say anatomy is disgusting, smelly and a lot things without recognizing it's keeping him or her alive 24/7 whole lifetime! Even as a student studying Physical Science I keep a good time to study Anatomy and Physiology because it's fascinating!
Such a sense of repugnance stems from a biased view of what constitutes beautiful and 'nice' for humans to engage with. Unfortunately, human anatomy is not one of them because it entails gross smell and quite disgusting visuals, especially for a faint hearted. I do think this bias is the reason why it is worsened, though.

I have had the odd external haemorrhoids over the years, one in particular that’s pain was horrendous. I had read about massaging them back where they came from. I would say over the years I may have had about 8 -10 of them. I am 65 now. I would massage it back where it came from each day while showering. Usually on the fourth day, I couldn’t find it. Worked for me every time. I had one internal one and used the appropriate cream, that worked well too.
Wondering if you would consider doing some videos that relate to conditions specific to the elderly. There are a lot of us geriatric folks who could really benefit from these types of videos.

Didn’t want to be “dramatic” and go to the ER but finally dragged myself to a walk in clinic after about two weeks. They told me to go to urgent care immediately, my heart rate was like 200+ bpm. Turned out to be a really bad ulcerative colitis flareup, i had to get a blood transfusion plus two IV bags of iron, hospitalized for 4 days. So yeah. She lived several more years without any gastro or clot issues.

Thank you! This video actually helped me pinpoint what is going on with me, at least a better look. I do have an appointment with a digestive health specialist, but my doctor has no clue and sent me to the ER a few times with no abnormalities on the ER front... But you mentioning the spasms matches up with what seems to be going on with me... At least I can mention it better to my digestive health specialist when I get in... This actually brings a lot of anxiety out of me... the pain is still there obviously, but seems to make me feel better now that I know or have an idea of what it could be and that it's not serious as of now...
If your blood is bright red, comes out in clots or is dark, and is not from hemorrhoids, be worried. Especially if you're dizzy, sweaty, and don't feel well.Go to the ER, have your labs checked and if your hemoglobin or hematocrit is low( hemoglobin less than 9 or hematocrit less than 26) you may need a blood transfusion or an immediate colonoscopy to slow and stop the bleeding. I worked on a critical care step down unit as an RN for 18 years and saw this happen many times to patients. If you're vomiting blood, go to the nearest ER and get checked out immediately, ASAP. You'll save your own life in the process.

This is a great video for a lot of folks, since I feel like it's a question that comes up a lot but always requires more information given when someone asks. I overcame ulcerative colitis by dramatically detoxing and changing my diet. I used to take medicines, but they would only help for short periods of time. Eventually they pretty much stopped working. And so I did this (kind of dangerous) detox, where I lost 15% weight in a week time. I had a flare up only once in the year after my diet change, but have been completely healed for 11 years now.
I had H Pylori for about 15+ years without even knowing, it progressively gave me many of the symptoms in this video it’s a common gut bacteria apparently. At first I thought it was IBD so I reduced coffee intake, ate as fresh non-processed food as possible and aimed to get 8 hours sleep. But yeah to cure it I had to take 2 different Purses of antibiotics. My tummy is allot better now but I also have hiatus hernia 😒.
I’ve had rectal bleeding off and on for over ten years. My GPs never thought of sending me for a colonoscopy. I took part in a bowel screening where you send a stool sample of to check for blood. It came back positive. They arranged for a colonoscopy. In April a 11cm Adenoma carcinoma was removed from my rectum. I now have no anus, rectum and have a stoma for life.
Over 10 years and your GPs did nothing about it? What on earth. GPs, plural, means you went and sought out other opinions and still none suggested a colonoscopy or even a simple fecal test? That's awful. I'm sorry those doctors failed you.
A bidet doesn't have to be expensive. You can just use a plastic bottle, make a needle-sized hole on the neck of it, fill with water and squeeze. Or buy something like a Culo Clean. Works fine.

Sphincter vs. rectal bleeding. It took me a number of years for me to make the connection. But, over Winter, I'd experience bleeding, sometimes, a lot. Not so much in the Summer. I figure it was from my weight fluctuation, 25lbs. up and down due to activity/inactivity. Then, it crept into my thoughts, "Winter ain't producing a lot of vitamin D due to the lack of sunshine on the skin..." So, I started taking vitamin D supplements. Well, what do you know! It only took a few days of supplements to bring the bleeding to an absolute halt.
I had hemorrhoids that were bleeding, so I had a colonoscopy and they said it was just hemorrhoids. Over 10 years later, I was having some bleeding again...bright red, and severe cramping and narrow stools, so I just had another colonoscopy and I found out I have Diverticulosis! Luckily, none of them were infected, but I have to be more careful about what I eat and I needed to increase my water intake. Although the prep is horrible for a colonoscopy, it's worth finding out what's going on inside our bodies! Don't assume it's just hemorrhoids.
I cannot believe you talked about hemmoroids. I had grade 3 internal hems prolapse last year. It was such a inconvenent and traumatic experience. So glad I did the surgery even recovery wasn't the easiest, at least I have my life back. Topic request? There was a story in the daily mail (search daily mail for: Chris Evans Urologist for the article) where a urologist gave advice to a (ginger) guy about how to deal with 'the drip' as he got older. Apparently the urethra develops a slight u bend in it as men get older, below the bladder, causes urine to get trapped there, and causes problems. The urologist gave advice on how to lift this u bend. As this is something that's likely to affect all men at some point, wondered if chaps could do a vid on this?
Sometimes if it's hard and won't leave my behind, I put on a glove and dig it out. It causes blood to flow out of there, but I feel better afterwards. I can prevent it from happening again, by taking my medication regularly.
I've had ulcerative colitis since I was 20. Anyone with an IBD type condition has a much higher risk of colorectal cancer esp if you let inflammation go on untreated, so do not wait to get symptoms addressed and get colonoscopies regularly (I get one every couple of years) if you have one of these conditions, even if you're young. My last flareup went untreated for three months and I ended up in the ER - I recovered fine with medication and diet changes but take these things seriously. There comes a point where, even if symptoms seem minor, if they persist you need to stop thinking 'I'll just wait a little longer and see if it goes away' and go to your doctor.
I have Crohn's disease for about 4 years now and since I have the strongest possible medication ( drugs + biological treatment), since the bio goes in by needle, they always take blood and test it for the IBD markers, so I feel like most of the people get checked regularly , but yeah, don't underestimate it! I had probably discovered my IBD by a strangeforming near my anus....

IN the toilet? That must be uncomfortable man get out and sit on it properly
Get out of there! Do you know what goes in to the toilet!?
Listen to your body! I had rectal bleeding and mucus discharge that I ignored thinking it was just hemorrhoids or something else. Finally went to the doctor was advised to get a colonoscopy. Colonoscopy found a very large cancerous tumor. I went through radiation, chemo and surgery to have my entire rectum removed. That probably all could have been avoided had I not ignored the symptoms I was having and done something much earlier.
It is so important to listen to your body and get screens.
How old were you?
@@JoeG71299 49 which apparently was "young" for colorectal cancer.
Colonoscopies are now recommended starting at age 45.. It used to be 50 a few years ago, but the data now shows that people are now being diagnosed at younger ages than has been historically.
I love how well you present and discuss what are often difficult subjects! Thanks for all you do, and please keep doing!
I've been having digestive issues since I was 10 and that's when I got my first hemorrhoids. My parents were concerned because they thought somebody was doing bad things to me. It's been a recurring issue ever since and there has been blood. I started taking Metamucil a couple years ago and that helps a lot.
I have crohn's disease and for me, rectal bleeding was and still is sometimes a common symptom when I'm stressed or in one of the "bad phases". I can proudly say that I had everything that was talked about in this video myself 😂 (no cancer, thank god). The thing that helped me most werent any sorts of meds, it was changing up my diet drastically (so i really felt it, when you said this kind of disease changes your life).
I had bright blood but it looked like I had a blood clot that came out I’m freaking out I pray it’s nothing serious
My Crohn's disease says hi. Thank you for talking about my fissures, hemroids and bleeding😊
How many times you go to the toilet? I have Chrohns but I go 2 times daily. With some blood
@@Seeker7257 I know it's disgusting for people from outside but it's inside everybody!
@@okithdesilva129 Exactly.

"Flushable" wipes are not flushable.
You are correct. Just take a wipe and put it in a glass of water. It will never dissolve as advertised.
Literally my first thought as he suggested wet wipes 😆
Nice try Big TP, your cabal is weakening and you know it.
I came to say the same. I use them but never flush them. Heard this directly from a plumber.
Actually they are. You are just not supposed to flush more than one. The intention is to use only one at the end of regular wiping
I have had these for more than a decade on and off as a 27 year old. Definitely going to see a doctor now
Might be IBD
Same, but I've almost never had constipation maybe once a year. My bowl moment has been very regular, once a day. Rarely had diarrhea. The bleeding is always followed by a slightly hard stool. My assumption is that I don't drink enough water daily (less than a liter).
@@PolineChan I had no symptoms besides bleeding and I was just diagnosed yesterday with Ulcerative Colitis. Please don't ignore your symptoms and see a doctor!

My bidet attachment cost $32 from Amazon and is legitimately one of the best things I’ve ever bought. You get so much cleaner and don’t end up wiping your bhole raw. It is so worth it. JOIN THE LEAGUE OF CLEAN BUTTHOLE HAVERS
Living in any hot state they are a necessary item! Living in the desert they are priceless!😂
My bidet is my favourite thing in my house! Once you have one, you can't go back. If people think they are clean after wiping alone, they are wrong.
Question: do you like... Need to scrub your behind with a bidet? Or just the running water is enough? 😂 Not applicable to me, because I have two ostomies so no need!
I've had a bidet for many years.. I grew up in a grandmother's house that had a bidet and I love them especially sitting on a nice warm toilet seat in the winter.
@@bobikdylanI have a good day and even though I use that function to clean back there I will still wipe and shockingly there's a little bit of residual so the bidet is not 100%, but it definitely makes a big difference
To think, and assuming that these organs once belonged to a functioning human being, those organs belonged to a human who had a life, a body, and a life full or memories.. so fascinating!
lol a few years ago I started feeling really sick and was puking and having increasingly bloody diarrhea. So yeah. Don’t wait for as long as I did, your poop isn’t supposed to look like barbecue sauce.
I have had bouts with diverticulitis. The last one the antibiotics killed all bacteria in my body. I ended up with C DIFF. I spent 3 nights in the hospital until my potassium was level, which was life threatening to low, was back to normal range.
It was an eye opener. I'm 64 and a half and would like to be around a lot longer. I'm having a colonoscopy and an upper endoscopy in October. Yes, the hemorrhoids are a pain in the!!!
I truly appreciate the delivery of every video you do. I try to educate myself at least once a week with your videos and truly appreciate your content and delivery methods no pun intended lol
The SECOND you see blood, call your doc and get checked. DEMAND being seen by a gastroenterologist!! .. DO NOT assume it’s this or that.
My sister assumed she had haemorrhoids for about 5 years. Doctors thought maybe endometriosis.. and so on… for about 5 years.
She is now dying with stage 4 colon cancer that has metastasized to her lungs, liver, stomach, diaphragm, lower bowel and spleen.
She was 45 years old when finally diagnosed.
I am so sorry 💔
I am gonna go get checked soon
The ad before this video started with Morgan Freeman saying, "You can feel it..." during an Opzelura commercial. Laughed so freaking hard.
Great video all of us can always learn more!!!!!🎉
This video was very informative as I have had ulcerative colitis and would always be in pain and had lost so much weight I didn’t know what was going on with me I got it taken care of but I didn’t know what was causing it or how it happened this video gave me more understanding of how it happened
_PSA:_ flushable wipes *AREN'T.*
It's false advertising, it's flushable the same way poison mushrooms are technically edible (once). Flushable wipes cause serious issues in the sewage system and make fatbergs down there even worse and more difficult to break apart!
My workplace put up signs at every toilet saying to not flush them.
Nice try Big TP, your cabal is weakening and you know it.
@@HeartlessKnave You can use wet wipes, just don't flush them.
My mother took blood thinners for a couple of years due to a history of blood clots. One day she went to the bathroom and blood was coming out instead of stool. They ran several tests at the hospital, but weren’t able to find a definitive cause. They took her off of the blood thinner and the problem stopped. She lived several more years without any gastro or clot issues.
This is life-saving info, and you explain it so well. Thank you
FYI - They might say flushable, but don't !!! They do not break down and will plug your plumbing !!!
I think them market them as 'Flushable*' and the smallprint for the asterix says 'only one at a time'. Marketing departments, excellent examples of humanity.
The local council where I live ran a billboard campaign "wipes clog our pipes" to try and get people to stop flushing them.
Hope this only applies to septic tank toilets.
Just because you can flush them, doesn't mean you should.
It’s true they don’t break down like toilet paper so the wipes can clog the drainage system.
Thank you for making this video. For my 45th birthday present I get to go in for a preventative colonoscopy next week😊. Prevention is 🔑

Is it possible it’s just a fissure? I thought I had hemorrhoids but it was just a fissure caused by over wiping and occasional constipation
The coolest anatomy channel❤ this is so useful so so inlighting, i keep postponing my colonoscopy cause of my migraines.. now i have a total different view😢

I’m feel sorry for anyone that has to suffer through this
Thanks for the always important and interesting issues.
I have been watching a lot of H.I. vids. I recently had an episode and it's questionable of my health and other negative thoughts about life. Comments should be taken seriously as it could mean something serious and happen to anyone. I'm 40 and hoping to live much longer...be positive, don't let insurance or cost stop you, face it and get to the hopeful and enjoy life. It's shorter than you realize. God bless
This is a great video for a lot of folks, since I feel like it's a question that comes up a lot but always requires more information given when someone asks.
I've used the phrase "You're going to have to be a little more specific" far too many times in this line of questioning when it comes to patient caretakers (I work in animal welfare, so I rarely have two-sided conversations with the patients themselves).
At least humans don't get parvovirus.
Thank you again for the awesome and useful information 😊
Biology is my favorite subject ^^ gonna have to suggest this channel to my Biology Teacher
Those “flushable” wipes mess up the sewage treatment facilities!
Unlike toilet PAPER, which breaks down before it reaches the treatment plant, wipes are made of PLASTIC and POLYESTER, which doesn’t break down.
Use them if you like, but throw them in the trash can.
Flushable as in they will usually get past your toilet. After that is another thing.

My brother had life threatening Chron’s Disease in his mid 20s. Please get yourself checked out if you’re suspicious. It’s so important to catch this early!
Thank you! You're amazing explaining these videos.
for me it happen when I started squadding(more heavily). I was so scared, but it got figure out. nothing dangerous. stay healthy everybody
Wow. So sorry!
This is terrifying. I am sorry this happened to you and glad you took the test.
Works fine.
I had bleeding for a few years, went to the doctor and they said it was hemorrhoids, i was too young to have cancer. 2 years later still had bleeding, got a colonoscopy and they removed a cancerous polyp. i was 24. it was a pretty light red color, not as red as in the video but still light.
where did you had pain?

Got a lota jug from Amazon - they use them in Asia to get clean as very often the sewage systems can't handle toilet paper. If I had space for a bidet, I'd get one. It's refreshingly clean!
Thanks for the video - helps me understand better so I can tell my Mam, who is going through investigations.
Bidets can just involve adding to existing toilet seat. I love mine!!
Handheld bidets are cheap and highly effective and easy to keep clean. They can also go where you go.
A few times yes, 4 years after 50 and they decided let's do a colonoscopy and guess what, a2 cancer rectal. What a great time it's been.
My dad had blood in his stool and ended up having colon cancer. They took in of his 8 inches of colon out. He was lucky it didn't spread anywhere else. My mom insisted he went to the doctor right away. I'm glad she did.
Thanks for the video! Could we perhaps also mention diverticulosis affecting the sigmoid colon? Unfortunately, I am involved in this matter, this change was noticed during an MRI examination!
Please know that your local plumber highly recommend liberal use of "flushable" wipes. In fact, you should consider doubling up on the wipes - using two at the same time - to lower the risk of "accidental contamination" of your hands.
Before you know it, your local plumber has his kids' college education paid for, and he'll start looking at acquiring both that yacht and that mistress. All courtesy of the business brought by "flushable" wipes.
Then, it crept into my thoughts, "Winter ain't producing a lot of vitamin D due to the lack of sunshine on the skin..."
So, I started taking vitamin D supplements.
Latest studies show regular usage of probiotic products may case decreasing the diversity of GUT community living with us in our digestive system.
you need to add to this list/video. allergies causing blood in stool.. i often have blood in my stool.. and its caused by food allergies..
I cannot believe you talked about hemmoroids. I had grade 3 internal hems prolapse last year. It was such a inconvenent and traumatic experience. So glad I did the surgery even recovery wasn't the easiest, at least I have my life back. I always lead a healthy lifestyle with no alochol and lots of exercises at early 30s (but I did strain ans sat on toilet for long time on my phone). This ailment and experience were humbling... Human body is weird.

Interesting video. Very timely!!
Hey, the ingredients of AG1 are backed by research, but that brand and its % contents has not been backed by research.
