I have spent 30+ years training public safety dive teams and it really is all about the families. Your training, experience, and the resultant execution should enable you to tell them with absolute certainty that EITHER we have found whatever we are looking for OR it is NOT there. After only three years of playing with drones, it is fascinating to me how much diving techniques are commensurate with drone techniques. After all, professionalism is job #1.

I was SAR here in Maine. One rescue guy was sued buy a victim. The judge through the case out and apologized to the WFR. Turns out the Good Sumerian protected him because he was a volunteer.
As a Chief Aircrewman (SAR) - very interesting thankyou. We are currently trying to integrate drone use into our SAR flights - predominately for risk mitigation for the aircraft. If you ever want an aircrew perspective of SAR planning, Probability of Detection, and integration of helicopters and drones - let us know!
Great video.
Hi, sometimes with SAR responders they search visually in real time. To aid that effort Autel EVO ll V1 drones can use the Autel Live Deck. That lets many eyes, even miles away, see the FPV video at the same time. Too bad that Autel doesn't currently have the Live Deck for the V2 EVO drones.
Hey guys great info and show!!! I’m a Canadian planning on visiting family in the USA. I have a Canadian license to operate a drone over 250g. Will this license be valid if I operate my drone in the USA? Or can I operate a Mavic mini only? I would like to check out Grand Canyon and get some nice shots. Please let me know.
Here in Maine it's the Game Warden that bears the brunt of interacting with the public or families.
Liaison with the family is usually the Chaplin's deal at least in the organization I'm in in the local sheriff's office.
Unfortunately we did not have that luxury. With any dive op, I was the one tasked with speaking with the family (and media) and keeping them informed. There are so many old wives tales about drownings out there that, to be honest, it was better for me to do it than try to task someone unfamiliar with diving to muddle through and perhaps give them false hope or wrong info. I ended up being the go to person for death notifications generally because of it. No one likes to do it,, including me, but it just clicked between the families and me. I have no idea why. That part can’t really be taught.

as far as law suits go, families that are grieving often lash out. If they think someone else was at fault for their loss, they'll latch onto that. Does it make logical sense? Maybe not, but the mind can get very clouded and fixated on punishment with the idea that it will reduce the sense of loss.
Evil? Maybe we're just flawed.
