How to Fix a Plasma Cutter That's Not Blowing Air

- Plasma cutters have their problems as well. And when a plasma cutter is not blowing air, there are things you should look at not only with your air compressor but you may just need some adjustments or even some fixing. Repairing a plasma cutter is not really hard if it only involves the absence of air when you press the button on the torch. Usually, a plasma cutter with no air problem starts with the air compressor. But if you test it and it works fine, then you need to do some testing with your unit.
In this video, I’m doing plasma cutter troubleshooting because my plasma cutter was not blowing air. So I checked everything on my air compressor and I attached an air gun to it and everything works fine. So the only remaining thing I have to do when the “plasma cutter no air” happens is by testing the cable from my torch and if the problem was not there then I have to open up my unit which I did.
I have to tell you that when repairing a plasma cutter with no air, you have to be very keen to observe everything that’s attached to the air compressor. From the tube coming from the compressor until it goes into your plasma cutter, you have to check everything down to the motherboard and all that is attached to this board. In my case, fortunately, my plasma cutter troubleshooting has been easy because I’ve found out that a connecting clip has just got loose and it stops the circuit from connecting when I press my torch to activate the system to release air.
So, as I say, when your plasma cutter is not blowing air, you also have to check all the connecting wires that are on the motherboard. Because sometimes you don’t need to bring your machine to a shop. All you have to do when repairing a plasma cutter without air is reattach loose connectors that are plugged into the motherboard.
Some of my plasma cutter troubleshooting tips I’ve shown you are testing if the problem of the plasma cutter not blowing air comes from the unit or the cable attached to the torch. So with this simple plasma cutter troubleshooting guide, you will know which part of the unit is creating the problem.
On the other hand, if you don’t want to mess up with your unit as you detected that the “no air” problem is on the system, better bring your unit to the repair shop as I also suggest in this video

AWESOME VIDEO bought new plasma cutter no arc. emailed company, no response. took it apart, one of the wires was not attached. thanks, Pete
Glad it helped
I managed to figure out I had a bad air solenoid without watching you this time! haha! Bought it on ebay in 2013, didn’t work out of the box. Dug it out today to attempt to fix it.
Machine is sending 240v to a 220v solenoid and I think I mussed it up with wet air into it when I first turned the unit on.
Nice work!
Thx bud. Mine has air but no ark. Mine is touch-less also. I’ll start with the torch tomorrow. Good vids bud 👍
good luck
Cool thanks for the video, all the best to you and your loved ones

Great video and great explanation, keep it up Pete greetings
Thanks, will do!
In my experience- the most likely faults are faulty cable in the torch lead, faulty switch, faulty solenoid control...
So doing the 'short the 2 pin contactor plug' is the first choice for testing, before opening the machine up...then open the torch and short the switch contacts...

Love you Pete, you always make me laugh.
