Totally hear ya! .....49 myself time flys, ....that was back during the Alcoholica years when all the Metallica guys drank like fish I remember at the news of Cliffs passing , this big metal head Danny destroying his locker with his fists in the hall way at school.
Wow... you can actually hear Jason on this. I killed this album back in the day. What I don't get is this was recorded shortly before And Justice... and this rhythm guitar tone is so much beefier and ballsier. Sometimes low budget is better.
it's been exposed, lars was a dick to jason back in the day. He told the mixer to drop the db on bass so low you can even hear it. mixer thought it was a joke, but lars insisted he was serious.
Have you ever heard some of the remixes of the black album, where people have either turned up the bass, or played bass with the album and mixed it back in? They were CRAZY to turn Newstead down. it's slammin.
Ah the memories of this EP... on cassette, and the good times in my friends 1984 Camaro 305 v8. This album and the Holley 660 4 barrel carb were the only music required lol.
My People I'm going to be 52 in February 1st! I saw these guys 8 times in concert with CLIFF BURTON! R.I.P . ! 51 ànd Jamming tp GARAGE DAYS! When this album came out,I was 17?☹️☹️🎃🎃
I remember listening to this on cassette and it was my first time hearing Metallica, 7th grade 1986/87 , started wearing all black 😂 MOM got scared 🤟🏼🤟🏼👊🏼
to Mr. Kirk Hammet, i seen you at the Von Braun civic center. I was about 14th row -floor. you looked at ME. Dead in my eyes Operation Mind Crime opened. Never forget you, buddy. Love you ,man.
Awesome EP from beginning to end, my favorite song would be Helpless, that one is brutal, and what a killer EP and the first release with bassist Jason Newsted, Happy 35 years of The $5.98 EP: Garage Days Re-Revisited (August 21st, 1987-August 21st, 2022)
di th 1987 metallica adalah band favourite saya waktu itu aku umur 19 th, hingga sekarang aku sdh berumur 54 th. semoga para personil metallica diberikan kesehatan selalu. amin
I used to listen to this tape e7ery morning b4 I went to school...I knew I guy that had the actual demo of no life til leather in 83!!! I was only 9 years old!!! 😂
KeithH02 - there are differences. it's too subtle to notice though. The vocals to me are the biggest difference. Guitar/bass/drums sound a bit more crisp. Nothing too deep though.
I walked into my local gas station....to buy gas. In spring 1987? (I was 17 ) And in the cassette tapes at the counter I spotted this! This was pre "And Justice" ! You couldn't buy this at the local record store at the time. Record/tape prices then were almost $10.00. Then this happened....at $5.98! Tallica was so far ahead of the game back then. Ha! Back in those days you were considered a nut case if you liked Metallica back then.......guess I was one of those nut cases back then!
Yes, definitely Metallica's cover of The Small Hours is probably the best song they ever recorded. With that being said, I never realized how bad the drum footwork is in helpless, LOL
Thanks for posting, but fuck these remasters are nothing but a cash grab. And to release it on the "Blackened" label so Metallica claims ALL the money, another reason for re-releases.
@@Icarusvampire I bought that album?/CD? (And Justice for All), and said nevermore when it came out. I honestly loved Metallica up until the rellease of And Justice for All.
Time flies, ill be 50 next month. Listened to this everyday in high school riding my Ninja ..... F- yeah Gen X
50 in May of this year. Memories!
50 in September.
Metallica, Misfits and The Dead Kennedy's were what I cut my teeth on.
Totally hear ya! .....49 myself time flys, ....that was back during the Alcoholica years when all the Metallica guys drank like fish I remember at the news of Cliffs passing , this big metal head Danny destroying his locker with his fists in the hall way at school.

Just got the original vinyl in mint condition. Gotta cherish it. My favorite album by Metallica. This is true Metallica.
The irony being that it's a cover album.
My favorite
Same
Thank you for keeping it original!! The small hours is literally my favorite Cover song by Metallica.
I think they frequently put more soul into the covers than their own music. Best cover band ever!
Remastered sucks!!!

And you can hear the bass

Hetfield said that AJFA was supposed to take the raw element of this EP and combine it with the epic-length songs of Puppets.
not just you can hear Jason but this is the loudest they mixed bass ever on any album
I'm glad all of this drama occurred when I was too young to give a shit! I was so hyped on this
In 1987, a 13 year old, Buffalo New York lad got very happy picking this up on cassette! FUCK yea!! Let's GO!!
I bought this album on vinyl when I was 13 teen years old and I still have it.
I bought the vinyl when it came out. Then someone borrowed it and never returned it :(
Nice. I may still have the cassette...
Too cool.
This is my dads favorite Metallica album.
My favorite Metallica album ever !! If had to choose one...Era it was released. Showed their repertoire..
I feel like my mental "picture" of Metallica is this album.
I used to own this on cassette... LOL. Wore it out...
I still have it as new...actually...all of them since Kill.em.all.. inc Jump in the fire and Creeping Death singles
Me too brother.
Several of them.
Me too man
Their version of The Small Hours is one of the heaviest sounding tracks from the 80s
its insane!
I can't believe this album is THAT old!
It still feels like yesterday.
If Jason only knew what he was getting himself into. At least you can hear his bass on this EP.
Have you ever heard some of the remixes of the black album, where people have either turned up the bass, or played bass with the album and mixed it back in? They were CRAZY to turn Newstead down. it's slammin.
@@jasonhaynes2952 They hired the best dude they could find, then buried him. It's in-fuckin-sane.
@@jasonhaynes2952The black album??? You mean And Justice Far All… ? Because Jasons bass is very clear and clean in the black album
Yes. You are correct. I misspoke. I meant Justice album
Loads of cash
Loads of cocaine and women.

yup, did you also flip the aircleaner lid over? made a sound like it was trying to suck the hood in!
Me too!! 84 Camaro with a 305 and a quarajet with the flipped air cleaner cover. What a great era to be a teen!!!!
These guys are the worlds best cover band and this is one of the best metal albums ever!

Damn man. I only ever saw them once, with Jason. You could hear the bass from the sound check from up the street LOL
Bought this cassette back in 87 and listened to it on my walkman
YES!
I remember listening to this on cassette and it was my first time hearing Metallica, 7th grade 1986/87 , started wearing all black 😂 MOM got scared 🤟🏼🤟🏼👊🏼

Jason!
Guilherme Martinello Scarduelli and justice for Jason
He got fucked by jealousy, one of the reasons I stopped listening to Metallica.
First time I heard this I was blown away I was 8 at the time 2020 still Rocking METALLICA

Amazing EP🤘🏾🔥:).
Dam! Why couldn't of all of the rest of metallica's album ( besides Justice...) have sounded like this ...Raw , Heavy , Pissed. \m/
This is what thrash metal should sound like, not over-produced, just raw and clear.
... METALLICA 🇺🇸 from the USA ... 🤘 🇺🇸
Makes me feel like a herd of wild horses. Running full bolt down the side of a mountain

Jason's bass sounds brutal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was nice of Lars to let us hear Jason.
They were a fantastic cover band actually
I accidentally played this at x1.25, no regrets at all

Still my favorite Metallica, right beside Killem All.
Still rock this tape in my old wrx
I find it so ironic that they turned Newsteads bass down on In justice and it's so prevalent on this album
Killer mix ! Green hell rips !
Escutava numa fita K7 quase todos os dias entre 1989/1991 🤟
This was the best $5.98 I ever spent
These sound like And Justice For All with regard to the mix, the drums, etc. (excluding the bass, of course). Lars sounds great on this.
You are the best!!!
VíGo Ahdez it sounds amazing
Yes they are the very Best
Everybody brought it on this one

MoP and AJFA put together
I've laughed for the last 34 years at the end of the $5.98 album.
I also had the $19.98 home video.
sounds exactly the same as original

Some places had the nerve to jack up the price. I think there was a sticker on it that said if the price was jacked up you should steal it LOL

Lars was still only a few years out from his first drum lessons.
I've been playing e7er since!!!
this version of Small Hours has Alice In Chains vibes
IF you are rhythm guitar lover then BOW DOWN..
GODDAMN man..
Once...
My God. Is that a bass I hear on Crash Course? Justice for Jason.
I bet Lars was pissed at how audible Jason was on this, so he turned his bass all he way down for AJFA while nobody was paying attention.
The sound of a girl pissed at me 1987. Met the guys ===rehab would have been a good idea in 1989ish.
Mi cover favorito es em i evil!..yeah.
coooooooooooooool
The best album they never wrote !
people say album ? bought this when it came out its EP and the bass never sounded better and he had cliffs Aria SB in the pictures on sleeve!
