Canadian Photographer Fred Herzog passed away at age 88 in September of 2019. He was my favorite street photographer. Many of these photos appear in his book, "Modern Color". The accompanying music in this video sounds like violinist Itzhak Perlman's music from the soundtrack of "Schindler's List".👍
Great images! Sometimes Herzog's colors are so stark and bright that I'm reminded of the movie "Dick Tracy" with Warren Beatty, which was filmed so that it looked like a brightly colored comic book, where every shade of red was the same red, every shade of green was the same green etc. Fred Herzog's red is always the same in-your-face brick red, which stands out so strongly and brightly against the background. Does anyone know where the pictures were taken? In many cases the lettering on the street signs isn't English or Western. Maybe we are in China Town in New York? But what about the village or street with snow-capped mountains in the background?
Music score does not match the content. Too high and falutin' for the images. Some raw old time blues might have fit better. Try some Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee and you might have a match.
Beautiful. My most favourite so so underrated street documentary photographer. Along with Vivien Myers.
Wonderful collection! Thanks for your post.
