Frank Zappa was one of Arthur's peer family in 60s LA. I'm a HUGE LOVE fan. They really don't compare to any other band they were that different. Which does not make them the best band ever. They fill a niche no one else does which makes them great yes. But not necessarily the greatest. The Grateful Dead blew my mind by far more times than Love has. So has Frank Z. So has Phish. BUT...there is NO OTHER band like LOVE. None. That doesn't mean what i say holds merit over any other comments or opinions. It's only my opinion. Labeling a band the greatest is putting yourself out there for attack. I'm not attacking you. It's all speculation. I'm glad we both agree that LOVE were a pretty special band.
I Love ARTHUR LEE... and am so sad he went so young for such a strong spirit. Perhaps they damaged him when he was in prison for feeling like doing a crime. His "Forever Changes" DVD is so great. Rent it sometime.
The only way to put Syd Barrett and Arthur Lee in the same sentence is to say that they were disparate musical geniuses. They left us a lot of great music. I really miss them.
I'd read that Arthur admitted to borrowing from "Can't Seem to Make You Mine"to get this song , which is more apparent when you hear the studio version. He said he had plans to record Sky Saxon doing a version of it , which , I guess, never happened.
Arthur was blessed, kissed gently on the brain, but he fucked it all up. Forever Changes is a masterpiece. It's so said to me that the line up for that album couldn't keep it together. Drugs dissolved them.
You've heard people compare Arthur Lee to Syd Barrett? I can't imagine why, since Lee and Barrett had dissimilar styles. The only things they had in common was they were both eccentric and they were both brilliant. As for your "pub music/session singer" observation, get real!
Absolutely, gvxrlole! Both were brilliant. And both had their dark sides. Barrett came apart mentally, and Lee had run-ins with the law. I wish both had had long, prolific careers, but it didn't quite happen that way.
I heard Syd Barrett was a big fan of Arthur Lee and Love. He cited Love as being one of the main reasons for forming Pink Floyd as well as his lead riff in Interstellar Overdrive being inspired by Love's cover of the Burt Bacharach and Hal David song My Little Red Book.
Ive heard people compare Arthur lee to Syd Barrett he is OK but i would not even put him in the same league as Syd. good pub muso at best session singer perhaps
Syd isn''t half the singer that Arthur Lee is, you are insane. Syd was LISTENING to Arthur Lee before he even got famous. Interstellar overdrive is based off of Love's My Little Red Book. Research kid
A master of his craft in action .
A rare privilege , and yet even after all these years , it's always nice to see a genius at work .

For those who appreciate real talent , you really couldn't better Arthur and Love .
If you love music you must feel this one. Love Arthur. Thanks for sharing.
Arthur Lee's voice NEVER waned throughout the years! From the mid 60's to his last show, Arthur never lost his voice
