Karl, I'm so impressed with the quality of your videos. I particularly like the dual close-ups. I've watched you from the very beginning of your journey, you have gone from a ' maybe watch, to a can't miss a watch. You come across as a very honorable person and for that, you deserve to go from strength to strength. As long as you upload to UA-cam I'll be watching you. You have taught me loads and for that I thank you. You might think I'm exaggerating but I'm not. Regards, Fred
Thank you Fred 😊 the edit was tough on this one I'm not going to lie, just myself and Jakob with to phones and a rode mic. Then somehow jumbled it all together on my phone editing software lol 😆 amazing what you can do with a phone nowadays. Your support over the last four years has been very very welcome it's been tough not moving forward as fast as I'd of liked but we can't be everyone's cup of tea can we, I think I'm a niche within the niche of woodworking lol
A nice honest review Karl, from a Southern Irish man who did a lot of Business in Ferrybank in years past and loved the honest hardworking ethic of ye Hessle/Hull Yorkshire Folk, I wish you the very best and hope that you get well soon...
A
Thank you mate, 😊
What a great piece of kit. Might have to get one for myself. Great review, mate. 👍
Thanks Chris 😀
Nice one Karl, glad you took time out of your swimming pool to do the review, nice board shorts mate
Wow you where looking closely 👀 😂
Much appreciated, extra so because it seems you geniunely did not know the product is Hongdui-Katz Moses collab, making it honest. So possibly the best review JKM could've wished for.
Ye so I've been told now on a couple of comments, so it's a decent brand as well and put together well.
Great video and that tool looks interesting, I imagine that when used to it, it will be brilliant.
Thanks Jako 😊
They also have a model for very little more that has a depth stop too. I should have mine next week. Thanks for the great video.
Yes I did notice the depth stop was not on this one.
Great video! Like the review of the plane
Thanks Sam.
Great work as always 👍👍
Cheers mate 😊
Good job Karl. I have a few woodworking tools from Banggood. The fit, finish and quality is hard to fault. It's hard to ignore that kind of quality for the price these tools are going for. Anyway mate, keep up the good work. All the best. I'm off to Banggood to see if I can score a bargain. 😉
Thank you Brian 😊
👍👍👍.Thank you Karl
Bang good or bang out of order? It looks like it’s bang on mate! Excellent review Karl, as always 👍
Thanks mate, wasn't sure if people outside of Hull Yorkshire would know what bang out of order even ment lol
Cracking video m8 really well explained. Seen few these recently being used ben over at hew&awe seen doing some stuff with them in few his older videos. This was nicely explained 👏👏 never used one and will need save the pennies if wanna get one. Looks handy though. Competition deadline eve. Hope you've had loads entireties!🏴👍
Thanks Michael, ye Monday is the day I think we are picking the winner and two runners up that will be receiving hand made mallets.
@@karlpopewoodcraft awesome looking forward to the announcement. Last minute sweet talk the judges your fantastic creator (amazing carpenter) Jakob ain't bad to!😅😅
@michaelwillson6847 haha, we are picking five then popping them in the hat.
@@karlpopewoodcraft ahhh s***t 🫢😕🙄
Hello Karl. I have both the KM17 & the Veritas (with all accessories) closed throat. Additional blades are supposed to be coming for the KM17. They are as good as each other IMHO with the micro adjustment & lower $$ nudging the KM17 as my pick.
I didn't even realise this was the Katz Moses when Banggood sent it over. I love using it so imagine the Veritas is lovely as well, I've just received the Veritas dovetail saw from Jakob as an early Christmas gift. 😊
Is that the Hongdui brand? If it is and it has the letters 'KM" in the model number it's from a collaboration with Jonathan Katz Moses. Great tool
Hi Paul yes it is great information, I didn't know that.

The Veritas has a 25mm dept of cut with the depth gauge or 43mm without.
I recently compared the two and the Banggood on sale was $C 10 more than the Veritas, with the accessories. Sounds like Axminster has a crazy markup.
Interesting where did you purchase yours from @travel734 and did you physically compare them or was it from the item discretion? Be interesting too know.
I bought one a few months ago and it has a major design flaw, this is because it clamps the thread and not the blade holder. The thread has play in it so the blade moves up and down even when the lock knob is tight and it's getting progressively worse with more use. Veritus or an old Stanley is a much superior design.
I suppose only time will tell, I'll have a look at that sounds interesting to see what's going on there. Thanks for the heads up.
@@karlpopewoodcraft Thanks Karl I will be interested on your take
Both me and a friend have the exact problem with the first edition JKM router plane (before he added the depth stop) and received no response from JKM when we brought up the problem. Very poor service. We both repaired the threads in the aluminium block with a thread repair kit (Helicoil) which mostly fixed the issue but I definitely wouldn't buy this tool again.
Nooice!
Cheers mate 🙂
I do not think this tool is a 'copy' of the Veritas router plane other than they both are router planes. I have much respect for Veritas tools and own a few, including their version of a router plane. The Veritas adjustment is 'loose', is difficult to use accurately as there is a good bit of backlash, one MUST remember to push the blade down every time you change the adjustment or it likely did not move at all, though the screw was advanced a half turn. The BangGood tool has a springed detent that looks to eliminate that issue, plus a MUCH better depth adjustment with a scale to give someone an idea of progress. I've the thought I will purchase the BangGood and use the Veritas one as a 'gift' to someone. Mind you...the Veritas version was certainly the best available...until this one came along. -Veteran '66-68
At the time of reviewing this router plane I was unaware its actually a Katz Moses model, so definitely quality made. As an update I love using the plane and have found it to be excellent.
Jesus christ😢, I thought that I had lost the plot for a moment seeing two Karl's in the video 😅. The only thing you forgot about karl is when you get something over the price of £39 then you have to pay vat ( unless we get it from China) who alway's seem to have the item priced on the packaging as around £7 or so regardless of how much we actually paid for it. Happy day's 😂!
According to the website the price includes vat mate so hopefully that's it covered.
@karlpopewoodcraft yeah I know karl, but what I'm getting at is China happens to be the only place that when we buy anything unless its absolutely huge in size, they alway's do anything that they can to help us not to pay vat. If you was to look closely at the packaging and the stamps area etc you will find that the item Value is alway's below the £39 price mark. Hence no vat for us as they proclaim that the item we are receiving is very cheap to purchase!. Happy day's 🤫, but when it comes down to purchasing from the USA or Canada for example we as customers get slapped shitless with the vat. I recently contacted HARVEY about a couple of machines and was gobsmacked with their attitude towards selling outside of the USA, they wanted me to hire a freight agency to deal with everything, by this they wanted me to arrange delivery from their factory to myself and pay for everything plus the vat. My response was colourful to say the least once I got over the shock.
@simonr6793 really interesting I didn't realise any of this. Top info mate! 👌
Twice the Karl for half the price 🤣🤣
Haha trying to play with two phone's recording at once, boy was it hard to line everything up 😆
Banggood sounds like a fantastic pornography type channel to look up but some of the crap they sell is just ok. Some Dutch bloke is in bed with them & reviews heaps of products
I'd watch this channel.
You don’t have a Veritas but claim the HONGDUI is a ripoff design of the Veritas. 🤦♂️How’s this a ripoff when they improved almost every aspect of every router plane? Because the knives mount the same way? They’re all “ripoffs” of the original by that logic. How many different ways are there to design a router plane?
Did I say rip off? I don't it very much but can't be bothered to check.
Ps I love using this tool it's one of my favourites now.
Also, why isn't the Veritas a rip off of the Stanley? Router planes have been around forever. They're all just variations on a theme.
The Chinese are supposed to be really intelligent, from their buildings to Amazon goods they have an historic reputation for shoddy design and manufacture however.
This is the Katz Moses which 8 didn't realise when sent over from Banggood. It's a lovely tool mate.
