Not gonna lie, cooking it smelled funky, but when I tasted it, I WAS LIKE DAAAAYUUUUUUM! NO MORE STORE BOUGHT FILIPINO BANANA SAUCE! THANK YOU FOR THIS AWESOME RECIPE
Made panko chicken and needed a sweet and sour sauce. Just tried this and it tastes just like the sauce we get from our local Chinese restaurant. Sauce was a bit thick after adding the cornstarch, so I just added bit more water till I was happy with the consistency. Delicious! 🤤 Thank you for sharing! 😊
@@kusinanilola5081 I'm real fussy bout my sweet n sour...got left over Chinese about to do but out of sauce as wasnt my usual take out and there sauce in smaller pot so bout to make URS out of about 20 I looked at..URS is just right amount I need..others were like cups of sugar and cups of vinegar....be enough to last me a year...I just want a thick sauce to drizzle over my Chinese, one that doesn't sink into the rice like some watery yuk ones I have had...ok so will comment again when done and let u know...by the way In UK corn starch is corn flour..our corn starch is something VERY VERY DIFFERENT and not a thickening agent u should add this in Ur descriptions..fortunately I'm guessing many UK who made this are over 45 adults, a young un tho won't know this... Ok someone who doesnt cook. I only know cos I found out hard way. Lol.
I also added a bit of fish sauce for more flavour and it was delicious!! I paired the sauce to grilled squid and bagnet with rice and pancit! It was the perfect combination! Thank you for the recipe!!
Literally just made this to go with King Prawns....bell peppers...pineapple and boiled rice..... Absolutely fantastic....! I had to add extra pineapple juice and vinegar as I slowly boiled the sauce for 5 minutes and it gradually became very thick.... Superb sauce and can be frozen too....! Excellent ❤ x 🎉
I made this last night to go with some deep fried pork and rice. At first I wasn't sure about it, but once I tasted it with the pork and rice I realised it was super delicious and enjoyed my meal immensely. I have leftovers for today, yum!
Thanks for the recipe..I switched it up a little by using half the amount of both vinegar and ketchup and adding 6 tbsp of freshly squeezed OJ, 2 tbsp lemon juice and one tbsp cran-grape juice..It was perfect..I love the sour fruity flavor😛✌️
Made this easy recipe twice (once using part tomato purée as I didn't have enough ketchup). Must remember to use only 1 tablespoon of cornstarch or less as it was very thick. OK, if you're in a rush and need a basic sauce. My friend liked it. Thanks.
Joseph David If you want to make lazymanz sweet sour chicken-heat up some chicken nuggets ☹️. Or Popcorn chicken 😊 and serve w/sweet sour mix. I make a baked chicken strip w/panko and cheddar cheese that I bake-if I run out of the mix or it exceeds pan possibilities, I take extra chicken strips and bake, then dunk mine in this as I make a lotta the sauce then freeze in my smallest plastic containers to zest up leftovers or just dip my plain chicken strips into.
I tried making this myself once just guessing what to do lol. My recipe looked a lot like that, just half the sugar, no cornstarch or water and I used soy sauce in it because I had no idea what I was doing. It DEFINITELY wasn't sweet and sour but I actually liked it still. I knew it was gonna have a fair degree of sugar in it and definitely vinegar but other than that I was working on total guess work. It was definitely thicker and not even nearly as sweet NOR sour but it was a passable meal. Now to try it properly next time I go for a grocery shop I guess.
If you want to kick it up a notch at the juice of 1-2 oranges. I blended and strained the juice of one orange to this recipe and it makes it just that much more irresistible!

I just made this. It’s not bad. I can still taste a bit of ketchup, but it still goes well with the Crab Rangoon I made, so thank you.
could add some fresh ginger and maybe more sugar depending on ketchup brand.
Yea because actual Chinese restaurants don't use ketchup, especially the one I worked at.
Absolutely amazing! We loved it. Just like our local Chinese. Thanks so much.
