You can tell from the way your Dad moves that he's made this a million times... These are the UA-cam videos I like to watch. Don't just show me the recipe (google can find that anywhere), show me the technique from a master. He is such a gem and you are awesome for capturing it. And as others have said, the production quality is really great.
Your channel is genuinely one of the most wholesome and genuine channels I’ve ever come across. So excited to see where your channel goes, and I don’t have a shadow of a doubt that this channel is going to blow up even more. Not only is your dad producing amazing quality food, but the production and video quality does NOT go unnoticed. It’s seriously impeccable. Amazing!!
I rarely comment on any videos, but I just had to mention how convenient your videos are for learning! You have time stamps, subtitles in both English AND Chinese, great editing, history lessons AND your own blog with all the ingredients and the recipes! This is the first time I've ever seen a Chinese cooking channel so well produced for an international audience. Please keep doing what you're doing!
Mister Lau's sauce is the first sweet n sour sauce recipe I've ever used and, as a poor person, I want to thank him from the bottom of my heart for making it out of affordable ingredients
My dad is also a retired chef, probably a little older than your dad, from the same province. I remember as a kid always asking my dad for goo low yuk. Still one of my favs 30+ yrs later.
This by far is the simplest and best recipe for a sweet and sour pork. No grand techniques. Just tailored for us home cooks to follow. Been following sweet and sour pork recipes but this should be your go-to recipe. I wish for you and your family's healthy & long life.
I made this recipe and omg it was as if I was back in Hong Kong ordering this affordable yet exquisite lunch at a local this this rice. It really does taste like the real deal, please everyone try it at least once!
I made the mistake of watching this video on an empty stomach, and now I’m really craving sweet and sour pork! Lol. Thank you for another great video. My favorite part is watching you talk about the recipes while you enjoy a meal together. You always make me smile. ☺️
What a beautiful family you have. Videos like this bring people from all over the world together for the good. Thank you for being the loving people I know you are. Everything about this video, on every level, is perfect.
Given the explanation as to why certain ingredients are preferred and the background to them, easily the best food prep video clip I've ever seen on UA-cam.
Just made this for the second time. This is a great recipe. Might well be my favorite Made With Lau video ever. Thank you for sharing Randy. Your dad is an awesome teacher.
I tried this recipe today and it was an instant hit with all my family and friends. the double frying delivered an amazing "wok hee" smell and taste, The sauce is simply perfect. My neighbour who is a big fan of this dish said that she fancied nothing else but sweet and sour dish when she smelled what I was cooking.. Sent her a serve and she totally devoured then raved about it. I just wanna say thank you very much to your Dad and your entire family for posting and showing such an amazing recipe. I myself never really have much interests in sweet & sour dishes, I tried it today and I must admit I really liked it.. Please say thank you to your Dad for me.. God bless you all. cheers.
I so love your videos and SO love your family. As many have mentioned, the production is amazing. Watching your videos is like spending time with your family. I love to cook and I have have learned SO MUCH from your Dad. I could (and have) watched your Dad's knife skills for hours. So enjoy the time after the meal is created spending time with your AMAZING family learning even more. Thank you to your entire family for sharing these amazing Asian meals with all of us. We are truly lucky to have as much experience as Daddy Lau has to teach us the right way. Thank you to you Lau family.
I love the answering of questions while you are all sitting at the table. It makes the whole video nicer. Also, wonderfull that your dad (I need to learn to Remember his name) says that you don't have to follow his recipe exactly and there are many variations. It might take the pressure of for some People to do it "right". Keep doing what you guys do
Beautiful family!! I made many of the dishes. Fabulous!! And a great teacher! Thank you for sharing your Dad, family and history with the world. What a gift to others
I am obsessed with you dad's cooking. Made this tonight with a side of gai lan and both were perfection. I followed your dad exactly and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Thank you SO much for sharing his years of knowledge and skill with us.🥰
I miss the Bay Area sooooo much and the Chinese food is one on my list. I moved to Louisiana and 99% of the Chinese food is HORRIBLE. I found ONE spot and the chief is from San Francisco. He started his career in da Bay. That whole place knows my face. I mentioned the taste but the size was not it. When I started talking about the food from San Francisco, he came to my table and we had a GREAT conversation. The next time I returned, the serving size was ON POINT!!! SO glad that I have found your channel so that I can make my own.🥰🥰🥰🥲🥲🥲🥲❣❣
Really enjoy watching your dad cook. Every dish is so delicious looking and his steps are so clear and simple. Though I have cooked sweet & sour pork for my family many times, I still feel so inspired to try your dad's recipe. Thank you for sharing the fabulous Chinese Cantonese dishes with us so that we can cook for our family. This is one of the best and most authentic Chinese cooking I have come across. Thank you so much for your programme !
Glad it's Friday, so I can learn another Recipe from "Daddy Lau." It's very satisfying to marvel the love throughout this adorable family and the "Small Talk-Eating Time" Segment successfully equates to: "Unity of a Family". Kudos Lau Family!
I love your keptchup mini-doc and your father is charming. He reminds me of how my father would cook at home for us. I learned to cook from my father and my grandmother. My mother did not like being in the kitchen
OMG, I made this for dinner last night. It turned out perfect. The pork was moist and the sauce was perfection. I will never be buying this dish from the restaurant's anymore. Thank you papa Lau. You are a god send.
The explanation of using different cuts of meat, substitutions and techniques are always appreciated in cooking/recipe videos. Thanks for not just listing a bunch of ingredients like other asian channels. I'll be following along to learn and expand my own cooking knowledge lol. Definitely deserve this sub
Thank you for sharing! Your father is a genius and I really appreciate these videos. I can’t wait to try out this recipe. Growing up in Vancouver BC I got hooked on many different ethnic cuisines and I love to cook, so these videos you share help me learn the authentic dishes that I adored as a child. Thank you and your family so so much! Sending much love and best wishes from California.
Asmr for me. I watch this series at night. The dishes are delicious and your dad sounds so much like my old nanny speaking. Brings back fond memories of my childhood. Love it.
I tried sweet and sour fish when I visited Guangzhou and have been obsessed with the flavours since then. They deep fried a whole fish and then poured the sauce/vegetables over it. Best combination ever!!
yea I really love fish more than anything with the sweet and sour sauce, but the ones ive eaten were small pieces like the pork in this video, would be interesting to see a whole fish ver!
I found the recipes. Sorry, Lau Baba makes the best food. I cook Chinese food almost every day, but he makes it better. Now I feel like a novice again after 10 years in China.Dad is so cool. In the old days Chinese didn't teach wai guo ren. We are so lucky. I never eat out except at real Chinese restaurants where everybody is Chinese. I can read the menu and the secret menu and it is outstanding. Zhong guo fan shi fei chang hao! Thanks Lau Baba!
I just made this (as per my new tradition of trying each new recipe the weekend it's uploaded) and this recipe received RAVE reviews! I ended up using an air fryer instead of deep frying, and it turned out amazing. Another recipe to add to my collection. Keep up the great work Lau family!
Awww that's so amazing! And we're so touched to hear that you're trying our recipes every weekend!! We really appreciate the love and support :) Hope you continue to love our dishes!
This recipe is soooo good!!! My child asked for a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th helping! I never knew about the double frying thing to make it crispy, but now I do! Thank you so much for another fantastic recipe!
Greetings from Bombay- India. I made this dish for my family who are HUGE sweet and sour fans. They say that they will never again order it from any restaurant. THANK YOU!!! It was super easy to make and absolutely delicious. ❤️❤️
I have attempted to make this dish maybe 6 times with mixed results. I will definitely be trying this one! My wife and I watch the newest UA-cam Saturday mornings and feel part of the family. I also love this dish using chicken or fish. Thanks again Lau family!!!!!
Sweet and sour pork was my introduction to Chinese food as a teen in the early 80’s ( as it was for many Europeans in our part of the world). It is still a firm favourite in the family. I have made it once at home and though the recipe I used was good it was not quite right. Can’t wait to try this version. I love daddy Lau’s recipes.
this is one of my mom mainstay..i used to look forward to my mom making her gu lou yuk everytime..my mom is 94 now and no longer cooks but this video brings back so much happy memories eating with my pa and ma..thank you for this video and all that you do with your channel..ho yeah!!!
Wow! I found your channel and this recipe yesterday. Made it last night and was a hit! Best sweet and sour pork I ever made. Thank you so much! Looking forward to trying dad's other recipes. ❤️
I'm so glad I found your channel Made With Lau! Your father, is truly a master cheff, and these videos are just fantastic! Very well explained! Thank you Lau family!
I’ve made this recipe twice now. Once with black vinegar and once with white vinegar. The family loved them both! The black vinegar fit my style of cooking and the white vinegar was just spot on what the family was expecting. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe with us!!
I’m so glad I found your channel. My 8 year old loves sweet and sour pork but we don’t have it very often due to being on a budget. I think I will have to give it a go. Thank you for the great video. Now I will go see what other favourite recipes I can make too.
Made this tonight and it was absolutely amazing. It went very smoothly, thanks to the clear instructions, tips and technique demos. Beef chow fun is next! 😋
I just made this tonight and it was AMAZING! Seriously tastes exactly like takeout, I was shocked. The pork is juicy and crispy and the sauce is sticky and flavorful. Some tips for anyone who is planning on trying this: - I tripled the recipe which was good for five people. I did about 30oz meat and 2.5x the sauce. I used about half each pepper and onion. - I added a little extra sugar to the sauce because the vinegar was a bit strong for me! - I tried both Pork Shoulder and Pork Belly and pork belly is much better! It’s juicer, not as chewy, and has more flavor. However the fat can be delicate so be more careful than I was or you’ll get some wonky shapes lol. - I have no idea where they got 7 to 8 minutes for the first frying time. My oil was around 330° - 350° and I had them in there for 1-2 minutes and it was plenty. I checked and they were fully cooked and golden. Then they crisp up in the second fry! - I also cooked my vegetables longer because they’re going to be raw after 30 seconds. I still had them crunchy but just gave them longer. Overall it’s really really delicious!! It would pair really well with some noodles. Thanks so much for the recipe!
Thank you for the video. This is my favourite dish. As always your dad explains things very well & clear. I’m a novice cook but feel confident that I can do this with your dad’s instructions. I also learnt how to cut the veggies that look nice on the plate. Thank you and your dad for creating great videos.
Tried this recipe and it was fantastic! Restaurant quality made at home, so I know exactly what's going into my dish. I agree that watching your dad work makes it easier to follow. Thanks #madewithlau!
Made this tonight for the family, WoW thank you for posting the video's, recipes and step by step instructions you made this very easy to follow and it turned out great, will be trying your other recipes for sure
I really admire your dad! I truly believe I was Asian in my passed life yes I'm African American now but a soul is a soul 😊I can't thank him enough most Asian Chef when I was growing up didn't share much for many reason I've been told anywho Daddy is SHARING 👏👏👏👏👏 I cook for the hungry and homeless every week This week is Sweet and Sour pork daddy's way! I know there going to love it
Wow thank you for the trick of using flour first and then cornstarch to pack the meat. The repeat derp frying is another trick I just learn. Thank you so much. Much love to your family. Stay safe!
Just made this recipe for my family tonight! I'm 39 years old and this is the best sweet and sour pork I have ever eaten in my life!! My kids and husband gobbled it up and can't stop talking about how good it was. Thank you so much for sharing your food wisdom with us!!
Absolute perfection! My husband and I used to live in Toronto and there was one Chinese restaurant we only ate sweet and sour pork from. We've since relocated and unfortunately there are not many Chinese restaurants that can make that wow-factor of a dish.....until I have found your page and made this. Tell your dad his cooking and instructions are flawless and I feel like he is speaking to me as I go along. Thank you for sharing your recipe!!!!!!!!!
I dont have words really, you are really blessed to have them as your parents ( i hope you dont mind me saying this ) Chef Lau is a really good teacher, i happy i found your channel!
Thank you papa Lau. I just made this as per your instructions and it turned out perfectly. I want to thank you for sharing your recipes. I have always tried to look for authentic Chinese recipes, and I finally found it. I look forward to trying more. God bless you papa Lau. Xx
I'm so happy watching all of your videos with daddy and mommy Lau. It reminds me so much of Chinese new year eve at my grandparents' place, with them speaking Cantonese and me not understanding everything but still. Not to mention, your dad looks like 99% like my gong gong 😂 warmest regards to them!
I love his flexibility with adapting the recipe. I tend to make my sweet and sour without the deep frying. And I like to add additional flavor to the sauce, like ginger or five spice.
The dish looks amazing. Your dad remind me of my folks. I really enjoy the recipes and listening to the instructions in my traditional dialect. Thanks. BTW - my mom use to make sweet and sour pork with haw flakes (chinese red disk candy). Would love to hear you dad comment on haw flakes. Thanks
咕嚕肉 another famous dish in Chinese family, it's really appetising with the sweet and sour sauces especially for kids. Hereby, I wanna adding some tips to be aware when cooking. Firstly, when you refried the meat second time for crispness, remember to keep stirring it, due to the temperature are high it's easy to be over cooked, and the second fried could help to force the oil out from the meat. Secondly, when cooking the sauces, cooked it on low temperature especially for someone who are new on cooking, it will overcooked very fast if your temperature are too high. I also will recommend for rookie, you could add slightly more water in the sauces when cooking an add some corn flour water before adding the adding vegetables and meats. 😁
9:14 Randy was with his fancy temperature check while his dad still use the wooden chopsticks method! I was laughing since this reminds my normal interaction w my dad.

Did the pork get soft and not crispy anymore after mixing with the sauce?
I just made this tonight and it was AMAZING! Seriously tastes exactly like takeout, I was shocked. The pork is juicy and crispy and the sauce is sticky and flavorful. Some tips for anyone who is planning on trying this:
- I tripled the recipe which was good for five people. I did about 30oz meat and 2.5x the sauce. I used about half each pepper and onion.

- I also cooked my vegetables longer because they’re going to be raw after 30 seconds. I still had them crunchy but just gave them longer.
Overall it’s really really delicious!! It would pair really well with some noodles. Thanks so much for the recipe!

Tried this recipe and it was fantastic! Restaurant quality made at home, so I know exactly what's going into my dish. I agree that watching your dad work makes it easier to follow. Thanks #madewithlau!
Started watching this for Daddy Lau's tips... but now fascinated by the baby! So cute and vocalizing so well!

Most Excellent for your Dad to share his skill & knowledge. Thank you...thank you.
What a beautiful version of sweet and sour pork 😋. I enjoyed hearing your history of ketchup. And I love the new tips section 😁
Luv this dish, looking forward to seeing Papa Lau make salt and pepper pork or squid.
Love you beautiful family 👍🏼 Thanks and May God Bless all of you.
You guys continue to impress with amazing food, well made videos, and a fun, family vibe.
I dont have words really, you are really blessed to have them as your parents ( i hope you dont mind me saying this ) Chef Lau is a really good teacher, i happy i found your channel!
The method of which you present the points 1 through 9 makes me feel like there's going to be a quiz at the end
An easy A! 😆
It's an optional quiz and you can decide when to take it.
It's making the dish!
Literally every kids favourite dish
You dads my go to recipe book. Lucky family to have such talent. Love the little tips as they make a difference
Thanks
I love watching your dad cooks. He's very sincere in teaching ❤. Thank you 🙏
It’s 3am here in the middle of lockdown and I’m hungry already 🥴
Made this today to break in my new wok and it was delicious! Thank you for sharing your dad's recipes with the world!
Thanks for sharing your dad's recipe. It helps alot. Waiting for more videos to come. GOD bless to you and your family!
9:14 Randy was with his fancy temperature check while his dad still use the wooden chopsticks method! I was laughing since this reminds my normal interaction w my dad.
classic!
That’s like my parents.
Mom; uses thermometer
Dad: just use a wood chopstick!
