You are a lifesaver! I didn't realize that the exe just extracts the necessary files. After running the exe on the other machine, I had everything I needed including a readme. Using z820 btw
Heyo, Mr. Art of Server, you ok? Havent seen a video for a while, which is sad, since you doing a awesome job explaining complicated thing to dumbfks like myself. The value your videos provide is... i'm struggling to find a word here. You helped me with both my servers and have no idea about it. And to be honest if it wasn't for you i probably would have ditched the whole project. So i am here to thank you, and while i can give nothing back i want atleast thank you. So thank you, for taking the effort to point a camera on things, thank you for explaining in a simple way, Thank you for not gatekeeping but opening the gate, thank you for all of this.
It makes my day to know my stuff has been helpful for you! I'm doing fine, just been busy dealing with some problems at my store from the Chia mining craze. Will be making more videos soon! Thanks for your support!!!
Excellent presentation 👏🏾👍🏾. I have the Z440. Managed to mount an nvme on an HP Turbo pci-e nvme adaptor with an old Bois without a single issue. However I want to update the bios. I was a little hesitant.
@@kunzklingsor9156 You can always replace the BIOS chip, but before you do that, you might want to try reprogramming it with a SPI programmer. They are not expensive.
I purchased an HP Z840 (well and Z820 too!) a while back and love this video! Followed this to get the BIOS up from the oldest to the latest. Video was very easy to follow--I had it on the laptop right by my Z840 and stepped through it. Same process should work on my Z820 right? I also have Z600 and 2 x Z440s. I see the Z440 listed with the 840, I **guess** the Z600 is with the Z800? I'll get to the HP site and download those too. I've a large group of empty USB2/3 flash drives perfect for this! Thanks again!
Glad this video was helpful! Yes, Z440, Z640, are just the lower models of the same Z840 series. just like Z400, Z600, and Z800 are from the same generation too.
Sir, I ran into a strange issue, where after changing bios setting Z840 does not boot into bios. I have removed the CMOS hoping to reset. no success yet. Just curious if you have run into anything similar situation. I can hear the fans and NIC start up but noting shows up on the screen to make any bios changes or revert the changes.
Updated the BIOS on a z640 successfully but I cannot for the life of me boot up into Windows again, even tho it's a perfect drive that boots on my main pc. the drive I'm attempting to boot from is a windows install done in the z640, and the z640 refuses to boot or recognize drives in Windows Installer. Can you please help ?
I'm not a Windows user and have limited expertise. However, I do know that Windows does not like it when the underlying storage controller for the boot drive is changed. This is because Windows configures specific drivers for the controller required to boot. If the previous Z640 had a different boot drive configuration, that may be why and you will get a blue screen error when booting Windows.
What usb port did you put the flash drive into? I follow this on my Hp z440 but it says cannot find drive with folder structure"Hewlett-Packard>BIOS>New". I have the folders set up just like you with the Bin file in. am I missing something? Maybe this does not work for hp z440? bios looks same to me
Me too. It does not work on my z440. It gave this folder already in the bios itself: « Hewlett-Packard/BIOS/New ». So, I tried it before watching this video. After watching it, I re-tried with 2 usb keys, 1 SD card. Front usb, rear usb, sd card reader… nothing seems to work. Isn’t there any hidden « lock option » somewhere in the BIOS, that would prevent any upgrade ???
How would It be possible for me to update the bios on my hp desktop? I've got a fresh install of windows on my PC but it gets stuck at the hp logo and I don't have an option to update the bios anywere. Not even in the diag uefi
You need to look up the BIOS update instructions for your particular model of HP desktop. These are HP's high end workstations, so the features may be very different than other HP desktop machines.
HI, after updating BIOS I have only black screen. I try BIOS recovery, result is the same. Only black screen. I use BIOS version 2.57. Can you send me BIOS version from this video?
yes, the other stuff you see is just my FreeDOS installation and other tools that are unrelated. it just needs to be a FAT formatted USB drive with the folders I mentioned.
Hi, I am very new to this and I need some advice/asistance with the Dell poweredge r410, Is there a way that you could answer me a few questions? Thanks un Advance.
Hello Does anyone have experience with these HP Z840 HP Z Cooler (Vapor). I have a few questions. Thanks in advance. They come with a connector for the mobo but have no moving parts. Is this connector just an indicator to the system to change the fan curve? If my first question is correct can I leave them unplugged for better cooling and longer turbo boost? I know there primary function is to lower system noise. Has anyone tried this, what are your results? My System Specs: UserBenchmarks: Game 85%, Desk 84%, Work 82% CPU: Dual Intel Xeon E5-2637 v3 - 78.2% GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 - 105.6% SSD: Samsung MZFLW1T0HMLH-000MV 1TB - 200.3% SSD: Crucial M500 480GB - 87.7% RAM: 48GB - 74.1% MBD: HP Z840 Workstation
The cable is a sensing cable... it shorts a connection that tells the board management to change fan profiles. You can run the Z Cooler without it, but it will just run thinking it has the normal CPU cooler. I haven't tried Z Cooler with it unplugged, so I don't know how it affects cooling capacity. Did you notice longer boost times?

This was a fantastic video to walk through the BIOS process.
