In reality ESE has been around for about 24 years. The Gaggia Classic was released an ESE basket as far back as 2000. ESE pads are widely used in France as well and all of the best pre ground coffee specialists like Illy, Lucaffe etc sell them on-line for a decent price. My wife prefers them because they are not messy.
