    That's massive. Pulled my 1st earlies today, Charlotte variety, and got about 2 kg plus of 16 plants. Carrots in the pots are growing all nicely too finally. Not pulling any of them yet.

    Brilliant Ivan , it’s such a satisfying feeling harvesting your meal from the garden especially after we’ve had such a terrible start to our growing year.❤️

    I've just now eaten my first pea harvest (Tom Thumb) as the protein part of a veggie stir-fry (partly home-grown, lots of beetroot and chard leaves, and some overgrown spring onions) with added egg and spicy rice - mmm it was delicious. The peas had just that little burst of sweetness to complement the spice and black pepper. Another good helping of peas went to the lady who has the other allotment raised bed, in exchange for the beetroot and chard leaves and some spuds.
    My broad beans will be ready soon. Interestingly, the broad beans I have growing in a large tub at the front of my flat have blackfly really badly - but those in the allotment raised bed have none - I won't be growing broad beans down here by my flat again next year. Climbing French or runners instead! I had a gentle furtle at one end of the trough I have carrots growing in, and there's definitely a carrot fattening in there.
    I can hear the delight in your voice at that spud!

    Enjoy your tea! Everything looks so lush in your containers. Ive been harvesting broad beans and courgettes, i thjnk my spuds, home guard, are likely to be mush with all the rain we've had. I also have a conjoined courgette growing, ever heard of that?

    Lovely looking carrots Ivan - bet you enjoyed that meal! I'm glad to see your spuds are doing so well too. You may be interested in a little experiment I'm trying: one of the tubs I had two seed potatoes in early in the year I got a nice harvest (2kg from the 2 plants)... when I cleared the hulm I noticed 1 of the plants had a virtually untouched seed potato still attached! So I stuck it back into a smaller pot, and sure enough it's sprouted again and the top-hamper's now about 300mm (a foot) high. No idea yet if it's going to produce any more spuds - any experience like this Ivan, or other gardeners? (The pot's just stood outside, kept watered in any dry spells - not a big issue this year!)

    Seeing the green tops on those carrots reminded me - are you allowed to make compost in a container on your site ?

    Just a question what I am unsure about my tomato plants the stems and leaves turning black should I be worried

    • @ivans-gardening-allotment-uk
      @ivans-gardening-allotment-uk  7 днів тому

      Hi it could be a sign of early blight or insect damage
      check under the leaves for Aphids and Mites if you cant see any then it is probably a disease so cut away all black leaves and bin them also if in a container move away from other plants
      Hope this helps best of luck and thank you Kirin

      This sounds like tomato grey mould. Whether there is still a fungicide available to buy from a garden centre I don't know. So many crop protection products have been withdrawn in recent years.

    Sir could you take a look at my newest video and could you let me know if my pumpkins are Jack-o-lantern brand pumpkins? I'm trying to search and find the species. The seeds I harvested from the perfect pumpkin I purchased last year and the pumpkin was perfect oblong large smooth and I have several videos of the leaves vines and flowers on my newest videos. Also if you have any types to share that would be wonderful. The majority of these pumpkins will be donated to women's and children's shelters for the families and I do want to be successful. So far I've realized bugs are a problem and fungicides. I am trying to find a larger bulk fungicide treatment because my l9cal stores only carry small bottles if you have any tips for this as well it will be graciously appreciated thank you sir.
