    Some of this was confusing as I watched. Hopefully it will make more sense when I’m actually doing it. Thanks for the video as I really needed to see this.

    I wish I had this info 30 + years ago, I have a long rise and have always had problems with proper/comfortable fitting pants. Once I find a brand/style of jeans that fit, I have to buy several. Making my own perfectly fitting pants is a game changer!

    I have a hack which I do for this,it’s I join two tape measures at the 1inch head to head, then place th join at the enter crutch,so you Conrad both measurements separately at the same time

    This was very helpful. I was just telling someone how the crotch area is where I struggle. I’m definitely going to try this method. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 😊

    I think you did a great job explaining this. Because I understood how to take my measurements but didn’t know how to apply the measurements to the pattern. I can’t wait to use this knowledge. Thanks so much for your videos.

    Your information was useful for.those of us who have made pants. But for a new to sewing person you needed all those numbers written down for viewers (and you) to keep straight so not confusing. Get an erase board, or even a sheet of poster paper taped to wall and write numbers and addition and subtraction problems down. Then point numbers out as needed in your ecplanation.

    A band of 1" elastic at any circumference stays in place and allows you to accurately measure easily. I also check the measurement from my waist to the top of a chair while seated. This corresponds to the crotch depth line on a pants pattern.

    This was so helpful!!!! Pants always sit too high on me so it’s great to know how to properly shorten my rise!!!

  • @christinabarnes1105
    @christinabarnes1105 9 місяців тому

    So, when you are say to take the waistband into consideration, does that mean that it’s adding more to the crouch depth?

  • @sewing-Susan

    I understand, however, one question-is there any ease in the rise?

    • @brightiz
      @brightiz 2 роки тому +1

      I was wondering the same thing. With those measurements a relaxed fit pant would go up the crotch like leggings or skinny jeans, right?

  • @tamara3838

    I need this SO bad because I made the paperbag pants and the crotch is baggy. I had no clue how to fix them.

  • @christinabarnes1105
    @christinabarnes1105 Місяць тому

    You said your rise length is 9 half in front crotch and 15” in the back. When sewing the pants pieces together the back is going to be higher than the front. So how do I line the pieces up when sewing them together ? FIRST I sew the backs crotch together then I sew the front crotch together. Then I open up the front and then I open up the back and i lay them flat with right sides facing. Then I line up the center crotches together. Then I sew the in seams. After that I line up the side seams at the top where the waist is how is it going to line up if the back of your measurement was 15 and your front measurement was 9. I just do get it.

    • @EllieandMacPatternsLLC
      @EllieandMacPatternsLLC  Місяць тому

      The sides will align and the front will be shorter than the back in the center only. Your steps were correct.

    • @christinabarnes1105
      @christinabarnes1105 Місяць тому

      OK, so if I line up the left top front scene by the way, and the right front scene above the way and so them all the way down and because the front crouch is shorter than the back crouch, wouldn’t that make my leg length at the bottom off by a couple inchesI don’t think it’s gonna be level

    • @christinabarnes1105
      @christinabarnes1105 Місяць тому

      OK, I’m redoing my sentence. So when I line up the left seam at top of waist and do the same on the right side. Then I put the crouch together and sew the inseams together.. I think the bottom of the ankle length will be un even..because the back crotch is 13 and my front crotch is 9. oh I am not attaching a waste. I am just going to flip over the extra at the top of the waist and sew it that will be where I’m gonna put the elastic in. I just can not figure out when I go all the way around and sew it that the back way in the front was if I do 2 inches I can’t get it to be even all the way around cause I know the back supposed to be a little higher than the front, but can you tell me how I could sew that to be even all the way around, please help

    And then subtract? Why take a random number and subtract? Why not start with 1 and go from there

    I really thought this would be a helpful tutorial, explain/show me how to get my own rise measurements and transfer them to any pant pattern.. nope I am totally confused? She says over and again that her tutorial is for any pants but then uses a paperband pant pattern and refers to this making everything confusing :( If she had used any standard pant pattern it may have helped. I shall continue my seach.

    Is this alteration possible on pre-made jeans instead of a pattern? How would it be implemented on a already constructed garment that your trying to down size?
