When Hereditary ended, I just started crying. My body couldn't handle the intensity lol. But I still always recommend it, even if people don't like horror. How those movies engage with the theme of grief is very well done.
I remember that I couldn’t finish Hereditary the first time I watched because of the scene where the little girl was having an allergy attack and I have a severe nut allergy so it really messed me up and I never thought a horror movie could ever use something that is literally my worst nightmare, and that’s what made Hereditary so good
When the boys talked about UA-camrs with calming voices that put people to sleep I remembered VaatiVidya. I easily get knocked out by his soothing voice lol.
It seems like a weird backhanded compliment but I absolutely understand what you are saying. I specifically listen to VaatiVidya when I'm struggling to go to sleep and it works every time. I'm a fan.
The boys reaction to the dog isekai is the hardest I’ve laughed at a trash taste episode in months. Also, I’ll always have a fond memory of Highschool of the Dead even tho I haven’t watched it simply because that’s how I originally found Gigguk and got dragged into the anime rabbit hole. His review video way back when was my first introduction on UA-cam
Some of the artwork was pretty unsettling but I dropped it after one volume because the fanservice felt so desperate and pointless. Maybe I’ll go back to it in the future, I hear it gets better further into the story.
Hopefully we will get to see the new ProZD episode soon, as well as Connor's crane game with him. Once again I ask in the hopes of seeing Rachel and Jun on the podcast.
Talking about Tales of the Macabre with my friends, I think we figured out the exact way to phrase why these Junji Itou adaptations keep failing. Junji Itou has a ton of incredibly camp ideas. You look at some of his stories and the premise is just rediculous. However, he presents it in such a way that you can't see the camp, you just see is horrifyingly skillful artwork. Without that level of skill, they are just camp stories. I will say the Uzumaki adaptation is looking promising. The 45 second teaser they released shows that they are putting everything into making it look good. However, between already being 3 years late, not getting an update since last June, and the knowledge that Adult Swim's parent company axed a large majority of non-Velma animated series and I have to say at this point it isn't likely to be completed.
@@vivvy_0 I'd guess they either mean Tldr: A) Campy: as in like a spoofy horror movie. B) Camp: like a campfire story. Full explanation: A) Campy: "absurdly exaggerated, artificial, or affected in a usually humorous way." Basically just a story that seems basic and a bit mundane, not hitting anything deep. Like a spoofy horror movie. I disagree personally if that's what they meant, because I think most of his stories follow a plot line that, while it might be simple and can ramp up quickly, usually hit some pretty interesting psychological horror points that seem more focused on a person's fear than their thought process of said fear. Or B) Camp is meant to mean campfire story esque, in that they're the story you would tell to your friends if you're in a spooky mood. Usually these don't focus on too much detail, and tend to lack a lot of substance, so once again I disagree, but less so than with A.
If anyone has seen Yamishibai (specifically just the first season) that felt to me the closest to a Junji Itou adaptation we could get, where you could have the art style as cutouts, plus some good sound design and lighting to really sell it.
It's funny Garnt says how fun it would be to be a scarer at a haunted house cause I actually worked at a haunted corn maze when I was a teenager and it was so damn fun hiding in the corn and scaring people

i think another great example of a horror/unsettling moment in a non-horror anime is the infamous scene from fma with nina and her dog. the reveal made me feel so unnerved and sick, it was so well done.
I feel like the 2003 adaptation in particular really leaned into the darker aspects of the manga in a way which Brotherhood shied away from somewhat. I suspect that this is because the series composition for FMA 2003 was handled by Shou Aikawa, who started out writing ultraviolent schlock OVAs-most infamously Genocyber, Angel Cop and Violence Jack-and while he later mellowed out and lost most of that venomous misanthropy, there's still a downbeat, even morbid edge to a lot of his writing which lends itself well to horror.
A good horror anime that no one remembers: Ghost Hunt. Everyone forgot it because of it's generic name and character designs, but it delivers pretty well. It's based on the ghost hunting craze of 10-15 years ago, and it delivers some pretty solid scares, good lore, and likeable characters. The execution is better than the generic premise would suggest.
Connor hit the nail on the head on why I can't watch TT videos going to sleep. I'd be halfway into the dream and the boys would start laughing at something.
When it comes to horror, I hate jump scares. It's too easy. I enjoy The first paranormal and even the first season of American Horror Story cause of how unsettling they are. I remember an episode of Buffy as a kid that gave me nightmares for weeks. Where the guys in suits who couldn't speak and floated slightly above the ground.
I always say Mononoke is one of the greatest mythical/historical mystery anime... Cause personally it wasn't scary or too unsettling, however that may be because I was too busy thirsting for the medicine seller. 10/10 definitely recommend it.
As a JW and fan of the boys and trash taste, she was prob a fan as well and had a late response to recognizing Garnt, which means she's now confirmed her sighting after this episode😂

Maybe they got rid of touching people because of the pandemic, but I was like Connor where "oh they won't touch me, it's not scary", then they touch you and it gets real scary real quick cause that invisible barrier gets shattered and you're exposed
The real horror here is hearing Connor's reaction to the Inukai is a Dog premise. 😂
I died a little inside when Garnt called Gits "Cyberpunk before Cyberpunk was a thing" lol
Same
Evangelion is weird, it’s basically an old version of Pacific Rim.
When Hereditary ended, I just started crying. My body couldn't handle the intensity lol. But I still always recommend it, even if people don't like horror. How those movies engage with the theme of grief is very well done.
I remember that I couldn’t finish Hereditary the first time I watched because of the scene where the little girl was having an allergy attack and I have a severe nut allergy so it really messed me up and I never thought a horror movie could ever use something that is literally my worst nightmare, and that’s what made Hereditary so good
I am gonna watch it now
Connor capping off the conversation by leaving Joey and Garnt speechless with one last trash revelation threw my head back 🤣
As the Inukai segment goes on you see Connor losing his faith in humanity in real time and it's hilarious.
Definitely more in the psychological camp but Happy Sugar Life was actually terrifying to me.
I'm a fan.
i watch Vinesauce Vinny to fall asleep, but sometimes something hilarious happens and i start laughing in bed.
I watch Stephanie Harlowe. Less than 15min in and I'm out like light!
@@mollytovxx4181 Exactly. It's like he turns the From games' lore into a nice cozy bedtime story. And yes I am also a fan.
Cant wait for his armored core videos the armored core lore is fucking insane
The boys reaction to the dog isekai is the hardest I’ve laughed at a trash taste episode in months. Also, I’ll always have a fond memory of Highschool of the Dead even tho I haven’t watched it simply because that’s how I originally found Gigguk and got dragged into the anime rabbit hole. His review video way back when was my first introduction on UA-cam
I can't believe they didn't mention Meirko-chan even once. The horror aspect in that was truly unnerving
Too bad it was bogged down by all the fanservice. It would have been waaaay better if it wasn't filled with so many t&a shots.
Some of the artwork was pretty unsettling but I dropped it after one volume because the fanservice felt so desperate and pointless. Maybe I’ll go back to it in the future, I hear it gets better further into the story.
@@ecanoya Literally nothing would have changed, stop crying.
As an American let me say Tokyo Ghoul is a horror, because this dude can't eat his favorite burger anymore... thats fucked up man
Also Gantz deserves to be in the top horror anime list. Despite the anime being unfinished its pretty knarly
Hopefully we will get to see the new ProZD episode soon, as well as Connor's crane game with him.
Once again I ask in the hopes of seeing Rachel and Jun on the podcast.
Rachel and Jun would be such an interesting guest on the podcast
No idea what they would talk about though
@@ViktorErikFade Exactly lol
@@ViktorErikFade cats
@@KlutzyNinjaKitty I mean, you do have a point lol
I suppose
Dude that would be so fun
Talking about Tales of the Macabre with my friends, I think we figured out the exact way to phrase why these Junji Itou adaptations keep failing. Junji Itou has a ton of incredibly camp ideas. You look at some of his stories and the premise is just rediculous. However, he presents it in such a way that you can't see the camp, you just see is horrifyingly skillful artwork. Without that level of skill, they are just camp stories.
I will say the Uzumaki adaptation is looking promising. The 45 second teaser they released shows that they are putting everything into making it look good. However, between already being 3 years late, not getting an update since last June, and the knowledge that Adult Swim's parent company axed a large majority of non-Velma animated series and I have to say at this point it isn't likely to be completed.
what does camp mean?
@@vivvy_0 I'd guess they either mean
Tldr:
A) Campy: as in like a spoofy horror movie.
B) Camp: like a campfire story.
Full explanation:
A) Campy: "absurdly exaggerated, artificial, or affected in a usually humorous way." Basically just a story that seems basic and a bit mundane, not hitting anything deep. Like a spoofy horror movie. I disagree personally if that's what they meant, because I think most of his stories follow a plot line that, while it might be simple and can ramp up quickly, usually hit some pretty interesting psychological horror points that seem more focused on a person's fear than their thought process of said fear.
Or
B) Camp is meant to mean campfire story esque, in that they're the story you would tell to your friends if you're in a spooky mood. Usually these don't focus on too much detail, and tend to lack a lot of substance, so once again I disagree, but less so than with A.
each time joey name drop an obscure anime and then the conversation doesn't follow him up is mood
Wait why?
Which anime did he say?
Mieruko-chan is an interesting "Horror" anime.
I spent half of the episode distracted by Joey's mahjong earrings dangling.
I loveee anything horror. If you hate jumpscares but love slow burns and tension, id recommend
- The Others
- The Witch
- Rosemarys Baby
Giving a dislike for platforming betterhelp
If anyone has seen Yamishibai (specifically just the first season) that felt to me the closest to a Junji Itou adaptation we could get, where you could have the art style as cutouts, plus some good sound design and lighting to really sell it.
It's funny Garnt says how fun it would be to be a scarer at a haunted house cause I actually worked at a haunted corn maze when I was a teenager and it was so damn fun hiding in the corn and scaring people
that seems like a dangerous job tbh.
but I live in America and some conservative piece of shit would probably shoot you doing that job.
I love Japanese horror movies. They use cheap jump scares sparingly. They build suspense and show you slowly.
So, after the second hentai episode we finally got the Mindbreak episode thanks to Garnt and Inukai's Dog.
What a time to be alive.
Garnt sounded so dead inside trying to explain what My Life Is Inukai’s Dog was about and I honestly don’t blame him 💀
i really like trash taste, even though i do not watch anime that much now because i kinda got bored, every time that i got a notification of a new episode of trash traste i watch it through the end, because the way the boys talk about diferent topics you know, just dudes shooting sh..t and chilling makes it really a enjoyable podcast to listen to, thanks always for bringing us this content guys and keep up the good work.
Just watch Monoke and Mushishi. They are more creepy and unsettling rather than a monster out to get you.
Mushishi is the GOAT
Recently watched xxxHolic and got serious Mushishi vibes.
Mushishi is great!!
i think another great example of a horror/unsettling moment in a non-horror anime is the infamous scene from fma with nina and her dog. the reveal made me feel so unnerved and sick, it was so well done.
Connor outed himself as a chronic Hanime watcher in this episode
God episodes where the boys actually talk about anime are so nice
A good horror anime that no one remembers: Ghost Hunt. Everyone forgot it because of it's generic name and character designs, but it delivers pretty well. It's based on the ghost hunting craze of 10-15 years ago, and it delivers some pretty solid scares, good lore, and likeable characters. The execution is better than the generic premise would suggest.
Connor hit the nail on the head on why I can't watch TT videos going to sleep.
I'd be halfway into the dream and the boys would start laughing at something.
I guess we can now categorize My Life as Inukai's Dog a horror anime it scared Connor and Joey it existed.
That ending was hilarious, they were about to go off on Conor for another hour, but they both managed to reign it in XD
I'm pretty sure the culture Connor is referrring at 1:12:25 is Otogibanashi no Onigokko
Glad Mononoke got the recognition but I wished they talked about it more since Connor didn't know about it
Same with magnetic rose. Joey's got not trashy taste.
Connors reaction at 1:15:20 made me laugh muchly
The anime industry just loves to crap on Junji Ito god only knows why lol but one of my favourite horror movies is The Mist and glad yall talked about horror so much before the big TT awards pod episode also Connor freaking out at Inukai's dog was hilarious but feel his pain 😂
Back in the 80s, I saw Vampire Princess Miyu (OVA only, subbed) and loved it. I only have 2 episodes of it now and have been looking for the other 2 for a long time. Another reason I love it is that it shows Kyoto station before it was rebuilt, back when I was living in Kyoto. They even drew the building I used to work in.
