No, it is optional. You can also use the space bar of the computer, but you will have to have thetis as a active window. That is not handy if you need to for example log. I prefer an external button to ptt.
Still can't take the hermes serious, seems like a toy that I have to add extras to make it a proper radio. Can't beat the Expert SunSDR2 DX, for additional bands, extra power, TCI so no more comport cables and many more. Hermes is a nice project radio.
I take this as a very serious radio myself. It is a very good radio. Of course, the SunSDR2 will beat the HL2, but look what you pay for a HL2 € 332 vs SunSDR2 € 2.770. If you add another € 160, you already have a 50W output. My HL2 will be my only radio I will use when travelling to HS (Thailand). As it is small, and it does not look like a TX, you can travel easily with it. Also the form factor is interesting as it is very small and very light.
Thetis software is ahead of Esdr3 in every way. ESDR3 No full duplex, no Squelch, pure signal is a pipe dream for Rome and the guys, NR on thetis beats the esdr3 or esdr2 every time. When having both vfo's active if you have vfo A on Hf and Vfo B on VHF, Vfo B will not be on 2 meter as you selected you will be on 10 mhz hearing the time beacon. Yes I have the current firmware and software versions. This is from my own findings. I own a Sun sdr2dx, owned it for over a year now. It does a fine job but Hermes with Thetis is 10 times the Transceiver.
More please.
nice chatting today Kurt, this looks a great functioning radio :-) certainly sounds amazing
This weekend transferred my HL2 into HL2 Plus.
Good luck. Can you still use the VAC? I guess you can use both right? The microphone input directly to the companion board and the VAC?
Would you share what cable you are using between the Hermes and the PA50 to control the amp? Thank you in advance!
You need that ptt cable to TX?
