Hi, I've tested the image and thanks to Fran's tutorial from Arcade Guns I was able to get it working. I congratulate you for the good work done. I just think in my humble opinion that they could take this same image with all the pack of lightgun games that supports the pi4 and add Sega Model 3 that is already emulated in pi4 with retropie. Greetings.
We’ve added support for Sega Model 3 emulator on the Pi4 for use with Sinden Lightguns. Here is the setup video: ua-cam.com/video/md0IK2mIg4I/v-deo.html
Thank you very much for the tutorial. Anyway to permanently get rid of the double crosshair ,one that coming from mame, on terminator or steel gunner for example?
Yeah launch the game with a keyboard attached. Once the game launches hit tab key and there should be a menu item for crosshairs and you can turn em off in there, then you’ll have one and not both
I’m currently working on a build with a pi ands sinden and I have run into every problem imaginable. This video answered so many of my questions but I’m sure I’ll have more.
@@oleschoolgamers so I followed the instructions but when I pull up the service menu for Sports Shooting USA there is no option for gun calibration that I can find. Not sure what I’m doing wrong
That means your using a different version of flycast probably, or the rom is just different version. If you’re using the image we created (called BB8) then you’ll see the menu/submenus like we do that are in the video. The menu you want is a submenu it’s not on the top level btw.
@@oleschoolgamers Thank you so much that helped a ton. Only hangup I'm running into is that it wants me to calibrate a P2 gun before it will save. But I only have 1 light gun. Is there any wisdom you can offer here? Thanks again
In BB8 the menus for player 1 and 2 are separate selections. So if you’re using your own image it might do that depending on the version of flycast. You can trick it by simply going to retroarch and turning player 2s gun to “none” for the device. Same way you see me turn the device from controller to Lightgun in the video. That way it won’t ask for the second device. Also, you could delete the nvram or any other files for that game that’s in the same folder as the rom. That’s where the service menu calibration is saved. So if it’s jacked up just delete that file and start the calibration again. Also, if you’re still having issues after this, recommend just going to the discord raspberry pi help channel so you can get quicker responses.
Sorry this isn’t really related to this video but I just wanted to thank you for helping thru the wii flow modding process couldn’t have done what I wanted with all the pulgins without you
Love the comment anyway, thanks for letting us know it worked out! That video was a bit before I had any screen capture software haha, but always trying to get better.
@@oleschoolgamers again not related to the video but is there anyway that you can point me in the right direction for boxcovers for the retros systems. Could you send me a link to good box art or do you have any suggestions. I’m not the best at finding troubleshooting information and for this it seems everything I’ve tried has lead to failure, but I don’t want to give up on it just yet so if you or anyone else in the comments could help I would really appreciate it thanks.
@@Therealtoycat420 not that I’m aware of, but in your case you just need to see if the process works. Follow the vid and use any other consoles boxart as a test on a few roms. I’m pretty sure it’s running 1.6 BB9 has a lot more features and tweaks and also has 1.8 so recommend using that. If you’d like to use BB8 though you can download the latest 1.8 software and install it over the 1.6 files.
I can't calibrate my guns. The calibration screen flashes for .001 second then goes away. Then error comes up "Please connect sinden lightgun. e4" even though they are connected.
If the recommendations in the video didn’t work, I’d go to the discord server and ask the folks in the raspberry pi channel. Link is in the description.
It's because you were too close to the screen. That happened to me today and when I stepped further away I was able to calibrate the guns. My problem is that even though I calibrated the guns I still cannot shoot the guns on any of the games. Does anyone know why that is?
If you’re referring to the 2nd player gun freeze issue, that’s been resolved and the new stable pi software was added to BB8 as well as other tweaks. If you have issues though join us in the discord and we’ll see what we can do for ya!
Great tutorial! I had an issue where I couldn't get my 2nd gun to track, but buttons and trigger registered and it worked in Windows. When I tried to calibrate it I got an error display "Could not find Sinden Lightgun Camera Device, Camera ID maybe incorrectly set". I plugged it back into my windows machine, launched the software, went into configuration -> Choose Camera -> selected the camera -> and burn to lightgun. That fixed my issue. If anyone else has this problem, I hope this helps.
Yeah, but you have to edit the file manually on the Pi side unfortunately. It’s in the lightgunmono.exe.config (spelling?) file which is in the Lightgun folder under /home/pi/There are several files, one for P1, P2, etc just change the files you want. The values in the file are intuitive, strength and enabling it and agreeing to it with a 1 instead of zero, and also setting other things like the delay between pulses (I think in milliseconds) etc.
Thank you for the helpful video. I have been having issues with calibration - I point the gun at the screen, and I have to manually calibrate but the crosshairs jump all over the place and it does not stay calibrated when I enter into a gun. I have a dark room, BBv8 and I have updated my Sinden's firmware. Any advice on what my problem might be?
If the crosshairs are jumping around it means the Lightgun can’t see the borders very well. You might be standing too close make sure you’re at least 1.5x the width of display away. So a 20” tv you’d stand at least 30”away. The contrast and brightness might not be high enough so check that. Also the border might not be thick enough so try a different one. If you still have issues jump on the discord raspberry pi channel and chat with us.
@@daveissod it will still work but not as accurate and cursor may be jumpy. There are some anti jitter settings I believe in the Lightgunmono.exe.config file you might wanna try. But yeah that’s why the cable is so long. Let us know what was the fix as well.

@@oleschoolgamers cheers the barebones image is awesome for the sinden, be great to use it with the marquee though. I’m using crtblast theme but there are no visual tools options or marquee script to turn on and not sure how to manually add if possible. The 2nd screen is working with the image to the degree of showing the system logo after selecting the game, however that then disappears, once the sinden script provides the border. Not sure if that is the reason.. there also no maintitle showing on the 2nd screen so I’m guessing it still needs a marquee script to be running
@@cliffy878 sounds like you know your way around ES. Hi, when I select test sinden light gun. The text scrolls and the the setup screen flashes for a split second and then immediately exits. Any idea what could be causing this? Any help would be appreciated, cheers
Great question. Anytime the screen exits, it means the camera on the gun cannot see the border because: Standing too close Too much glare from other light sources Not enough Contrast Other peripherals taking over the guns index id Try it with just one gun and one controller plugged in, stand at least 1.5x distance from the display's width (40" display needs 60" distance), adjust contrast etc. If none of that helps jump on the discord and ask for some assistance.
Lol, it quits out the test and the gun won’t calibrate though :/ I’m also getting aspect ratio issues too. ROMS are way off to the right of the screen but the white sinden border is in the correct place
@@braddolan4278 good news is you're the only one to ever have these issues so the fix should be easy, bad news is you definitely need to go to the discord channel to get some assistance. Yes but It’s not that simple but not that hard either. You’d need to set up settings for folders, content or directory. Example. Lightgun games on NES have player 2 set to “lightgun” / “zapper” and also have the border turned on for the Sinden guns to work. So if you wanted Contra to work for two players you’d have to set it up so that non Lightgun games like this have the second player set to joypad controller and border is off. That’s what I did, but now I wanna combine them cause it gets old and time consuming after a while 😂 Plus it depends on your setup. Some folks have their Pi in a controller or an arcade cabinet so it’s not as easy for them to swap sd cards, others have their Pi next to tv so no big deal.
@@oleschoolgamers makes sense, mines in a retroflag pistation case so the miro sd is super easy to get to, main goal was to be able to bring it and the si den with me to friends houses
Yeah so basically when you are burning an image, regardless of the OS: windows, Unix, Mac, etc it will wipe the disk clean because an “image” usually contains the OS as well, not just files. And you can’t have two operating systems on the same partition.
Let me clarify this. I have 4 usb plugs. Two for my controller's one for my usb stick with my games on it and one either for my arcade controle panel or gun. I dont want to override my usb stick. I don't want to override my microSD card. I don't recall the guy explaining how to avoid this.
