As a pedestrian myself I always feel its important to let the driver know that you have no intention no cross the road, dont stand close to the crosswalks, dont stare at your phone while crossing the road and so on. Its not that hard and takes a few seconds. But this is a great video showing all dangers and issues of driving in cities
Me too! I go for my road test in 5 days but as a pedestrian I always try to make eye contact with the driver so that they know whether or not I’m going to cross the street or not aswell

When I was little, a lady stopped to let me pass and waved me on and a commercial truck nearly hit me in the lane next to her... I was so close that the breeze from the truck passing pushed me back.
The truck's view was probably blocked by the friendly driver. I nearly broadsided a car in this situation. Car stops in the right lane, think they're being friendly, waves for the driver to turn left. I can't see this, all I can see is a stopped car and I go round on the left.
i hate when people do that. i used to bike to school and id have to cross a few intersections, sometimes a person would arrive on my side and wave me to go, but the person on the other side wasnt paying attention, so i waited. the person waving me would always get annoyed when i didnt go, but if i did go i would nearly get hit by the other driver 90% of the time, who would then get annoyed at me.
Yes!!! This is awesome! We need to teach ppl not just obeying the traffic rules, but also drive defensively... there are so much accidents out there can be avoided by simply paying attention on what happening on the street!!! I’m really looking forward to this

Great video, reminds me of when I lived in Canada and drivers would always wave me through to walk at a 4 way intersection with no lights, I appreciated it but they had no idea what the other cars were doing, so it was dangerous for me to walk.
That's a very good point. I thought about putting that in this video but it would have turned out to be too long. I'll put it in a future one. When people are signaling you to go, they're basically saying: "As far as I'm concerned, you can go", but they're not checking all around for you.
This pedestrians series is excellent, as you can fail your test if you dont know what to do on the test when it happens. Your videos are excellent...not just in the category of driving videos. Some of the best I've seen. You know how to write and produce information (videos). I know because I did a a whole degree in the communications area. Your use and integration of graphics is well done.
Briliant video. I thank you for your effort, as it had helped when I took my exam, and now I am still watching you for tips and tricks. Now, in my european city, my instructor advised me to wait for the pedestrian to cross, even if they wave at me, and if they are still standing there, i should tell the examiner that i am willing to let him or her go, but they just stand there. Only when the examiner tells me it's okay to go, I shall go. I wanted to say this, just in case there are other students in my situation, as it is frustraining to fail your exam, just because you are acting, like a normal driver should
Different requirements for different places. There are things that people do all the time in everyday driving that will fail you at the exam, like not stopping competely at stop signs, not putting their turn signals when turning or changing lanes, and a million other things. And I agree that they should fail you. But the situation you're describing just creates more confusion for both the pedestrian, the driver, and the drivers waiting behind. Like I said in the video, that requirement makes absolutely no sense to me. But like I also said, always respect the requirements that apply to wherever you're doing the exam. And thanks for sharing that tip.

As a one time driver education instructor let me say to all those learning to drive and all new and experienced drivers take the time to go over all "Conduite Facile" videos. These are "la crème de la crème" of driving tutorials found on UA-cam.
That is crazy how much they didn’t teach us at school on how to be a good pedestrian!!! It is so much different when you (a pedestrian) become a driver yourself, you see so many people don’t know about when to cross, how to cross even where to cross… you think as a pedestrian it’s all easy and simple for a driver to stop when they see me (they got their drivers license = they have to let me go). I wish educational system would pay more attention to this subject at schools all over the world!

As a pedestrian I do go on my phone while walking sometimes but I do observe the area I’m in when doing so. I’m usually on it for no longer than a minute as I check it when I get a message or something. When I’m crossing the street tho, I won’t pull out my phone and be on it regardless if there’s vehicles or not because a vehicle could come out of nowhere and you could be too late to realize.
Nothing wrong with checking your phone as a pedestrian, but I strongly recommend you stop though. I've heard countless stories of people who died as pedestrians while checking their phones. Here, a young girl died in the subway. She was checking her phone while going through the (at least what she thought was) the subway door. It wasn't the subway door, it was the space between two wagons. She got dragged for two stations before someone noticed her. And it's not just pedestrians. Yesterday some idiot almost ran into me because he was checking his phone at a yield. AT A YIELD!!! Insane.
I failed a test because of a “not intent to go anywhere” old guy who was just standing at roadside, looking at the other direction. My Japanese instructor said I shall “sign” to him to “invite” him to cross…but he was not even looking at the car direction! His whole body was looking at other direction.,.anyway…have to give it another try tomorrow…😅 that Japanese instructor should watch your video

3:07 In these situations pedestrians get hit by the front vehicle, after it was rear-ended, especially if it's wet or icy. The front vehicle doesn't stay in place, even trying to break hard.
Good video thanks. Whenever there was a hesitant pedestrian/person waiting to jaywalk during my driving lessons, my instructor would make me stop... then we'd just sit then for 10 seconds holding up traffic... Seems like most driving schools in Canada are pretty shit. Would not recommend.
I absolutely agree. But in the end, motorists are the one who should still be more careful, because in the event of a collision between a motorist and a pedestrian, the pedestrian is the one who doesn't have a chance.
I think it would still be best for the examinee to choose a part of town with the least amount of pedestrian traffic, the more remote and desolate the better. Take my neighborhood driver test centre, it is located right in a busy shopping district where there are restaurants, supermarket, colleges, and a transit conduit all in one. Even a gifted ace student will be asking for trouble and very sweaty palms.

The next video will be about other people's mistakes and how to react to them (especially at the exam), which is a collection of clips I've been filming with a dashcam and archiving, and I intend to make more of those as I get to film more of those scenes (which are not easy to film because obviously you "order" them, they just happen). Maybe youve done this, but please show how to notice when a left turn is yielding for you, when no sign is given. Or, when to know there is no U-TURN possible if you missed the sign, or none was given.
How to react if pedestrians cross the road on an intersection where you have green signal and going at around 50 kmph, and the pedestrian is crossing when he should actually wait. Faced this situation recently, luckily the person was far away so went past him but was really worried about it.

I've been both the driver and the pedestrian. If you are the pedestrian, I don't care where you are, look both ways and make eye contact with the driver. It isn't fair that the driver has to care more about your life than you do. It is our responsibility to take care of ourselves also.
Do you have an advice on how to deal with tailgaters? Would frequently pressing the brake very slightly, so that my stop lights are constantly in their eyes be a good strategy? What if I just want to have a sporty ride on a winding road, but some jerk follows closely and wants to race with me?

one time i saw this guy reverse up a hill close to a crosswalk and because i couldn't see the driver's face i stopped instead of crossing, i only crossed after he told me so. i've could of crossed there but i've seen him reverse.
But examiner failed me for not stopping for a pedestrain who was walking on the road,jaywalking ... i slowed down But still he was walking on alongside the road... what to do in such situation plz tell me
It doesn't matter if a pedestrian is jaywalking or not. You need to stop in a situation like that. A pedestrian is a lot more fragile than a vehicle. You need to react to other people's mistakes at the exam. If not, you can fail.

I've been both the driver and the pedestrian. If you are the pedestrian, I don't care where you are, look both ways and make eye contact with the driver. It isn't fair that the driver has to care more about your life than you do. It is our responsibility to take care of ourselves also.

Do you have an advice on how to deal with tailgaters? Would frequently pressing the brake very slightly, so that my stop lights are constantly in their eyes be a good strategy? What if I just want to have a sporty ride on a winding road, but some jerk follows closely and wants to race with me?
Slow down gradually and move to the right if possible. They'll overtake.

one time i saw this guy reverse up a hill close to a crosswalk and because i couldn't see the driver's face i stopped instead of crossing,
i only crossed after he told me so. i've could of crossed there but i've seen him reverse.
That was the best move. Especially when you're a pedestrian against a vehicle.
But examiner failed me for not stopping for a pedestrain who was walking on the road,jaywalking ... i slowed down

It doesn't matter if a pedestrian is jaywalking or not. You need to stop in a situation like that. A pedestrian is a lot more fragile than a vehicle. You need to react to other people's mistakes at the exam. If not, you can fail.

Red lights are for everybody, including pedestrians (well, excluding emergency vehicles when they have their sirens on)
